Toronto would be dumber to consider it.

Provorov is trending toward a top 2 D, puts up points, has a great shot from the point for the powerplay, great passer, makes 6.7 million for the next 5 years, and is an iron man. I think he broke an iron man record in Philly.

This is why I put a small + with Marner for a trade. I think Provorov holds more value given his position, salary, and from what we've seen from him to date. I'd be all over such a trade.

Free agency hasn't worked. What you get is washed up vets. Foligno, Vesey and Simmonds have been utter flops

You are going to give up assets. Why not? We are in win mode and you have up few for foligno.

Players like Crouse will come cheap. There are few players in the league u can target

Players like him seems to be the answer for Boston with Richie and Martin for Islanders

They have no problem playing them

Free Agency netted us Bogosian and Brodie too.

The logic really falls apart in the fact that Lawson Crouse is a bad player. He dominated on his size and physicality his whole junior career but as soon as he hit the pro level, his lack of skill caught up to him.

That is the same issue we face with free agency/trading too. Taking a chance on guys like Vesey or Simmonds or even Crouse is not a bad thing. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. The issue is that we also brought in Thornton and our entire lineup went from fast and skilled to slow and incapable... Just so we can add size and intangibles to the lineup. Dubas was far too overzealous in adjusting his plan and ended up getting killed by it.

You can afford to have one or maybe 2 guys like him in your lineup before it ends up hurting your lineup more than it helps... And you can find those guys in UFA just like we did.

TBH Konecny isn't really struggling and he's real feisty, not a soft player

He had a bad year. Not sure that constitutes as "struggling" but worth noting that he has only really had one high end quality year.

If Farabee is off of the table, then it would probably need to be Marner + Rielly for Provorov + Konecny and Philly adds some cap and other assets to balance things off. It would have to be a major shakeup for both teams. For example:

:leafs
LD Ivan Provorov
RW Travis Konecny
LW James Van Riemsdyk
C Morgan Frost
2021 1st round pick (14th overall)

:flyers
RW Mitch Marner
LD Morgan Rielly
LW Pierre Engvall

The problem with Konecny is his playoff performance. He's a choker too. I suppose he would fit right in.

1 goal in 22 playoff games.

Making 5.5 mill, he is fine for what he brings. Obviously not the headliner in a Marner trade since he has similar deficiencies with far less skill but with a bit more bite, but if he came along with Provorov for example, I am sure he would score more goals 30+ with Matthews as his center. Just needs to drive the net and make sure Matthews gets the puck as much as possible.

Isn't provorov a #3D who is played to many minutes due to the Flyers having a lack of options.

I guess this deal works if Muzzin plays top pairing and Provorov 2nd pairing and we try and get him to be more offensively aligned than trying to pretend to be a shut down defenseman.

Thought the deal you proposed I don't see flyer fans being interested in it. Maybe management is willing but their fans love provorov and konecny even though both are overrated

Young playmaking RW w/ 4yrs + Vet LD w/3yrs = 16.58m
Young LD w/4yrs + Vet playmaking Rw w/3 yrs = 15m

Marner + Muzzin for Provo+ Vorachek

I mean, sign me up. Doubt Philly goes for this one though considering Rielly's a pending UFA. I could definitely see something around Konecny though.

Ironically we passed on Provorov and Konecky and selected Marner and Dermott+. Trade looks like a steal for the Leafs but oh the optics.

If Leafs management had better talent evaluation skills, and understood a top pairing Dman has far more value then a small skilled non physical winger they could just have drafted Provorov back in 2015 themselves where Marner went #4 and Provorov #7 to Philly and Zach Werenski #8.

If Leafs director of Amateur Scouting Mark Hunter wasn't also owner of the London Knights, the outcome could have been different.

The best time to get these elite top pairing Dmen is to draft them, as trying to trade for them later becomes far more difficult.

PS. At time of draft I suggested if the Leafs want a Dman take Provorov, and if they want a centre take Barzal, but don't draft Marner as he is not a primary building block player you want to build around particularly come playoff time :wg:

Impact wise, Marner blows him out of the water. It isn't close.

We're just sitting here hoping other pedigree names will actually live up to our image of them.

A lot of Provorov's reputation is built on Couturier's impact. In the past 3 years, he's played over 1/3rd of his minutes with Couturier. Without Couturier, his numbers are way below average.

Apparently CJ eluded to us grabbing a scoring winger from an american team that didnt make playoffs. He said this on the Dangle podcast.

People are speculating that its Konecny. That's 5.5 for a struggling, small winger. What would we give up?
I don’t have any insight or much to add on Konecny specifically, but I’ve wondered what a Holl or Dermott + Kerfoot package could fetch prior to expansion. The third is the leftover for Seattle.
Suggesting since Lili seems about as ready as he’s gonna be, and maybe there’s a chance to fill a more important role with these assets, then backfill with FA.

I don’t think he said winger. He said

1.) high impact/high potential player that didn’t play in the playoffs.
2.) us based team.
3.) multiple years left.

-so might not be a winger. Could be a d or even goalie.
- the high potential thing makes me think young

Could even be a player that player was on a playoff team that didn’t play.
Ekblad would fit that

The ideal destination for Marner is an NHL city starving for a young star forward. The Kings and Ducks don't have that player. Maybe Dallas, maybe St. Louis, definitely Detroit, San Jose and New Jersey. Who can make the best offer for this class of forward?

The Kings have some interesting pieces to make a trade as well.
