Big time. Someone needs to go first in terms of giving a discount. Lock him up now is we can. Last thing we need is for him to bust out another 70 point season in his contract year, and now his agent has got the dollar signs in his eyes.

The Leafs cannot afford to go into next season with Rielly not extended...he cannot be our own rental with the possibility of losing him at the end of the season for nothing...so either Rielly is extended this summer or we need to trade him.

BTW an Edmonton radio host, Bob Stauffer, said that some player sources said that Hyman is staying in Toronto. Stauffer is decently connected but not always 100%, probably close to 50%

I live in Edmonton and stauffer is a complete toilet. I would not take a word what he says seriously

Foligno is a character guy, Columbus is going into rebuild mode, there's a fair chance he runs it back one year for us on the cheap because he feels guilty of what we gave up for him and what we got in return.

Like what 3 playoff games?

Could be a pipe dream, could be reality, time will tell.

I do agree Reilly needs an extension before he plays another game, and rumors are he is willing to take a hometown discount.

Fingers crossed we somehow make this all happen and somehow get Hamilton.

Would it not be smart for us to trade Kerfoot and Dermott before expansion and then protect 4D 4F? That way Seattle is basically forced into taking Mikheyev or Engvall lol.

As long as we get sufficient enough value for them that seems like a good move. Although we would need to get expansion exempt players or picks otherwise it wouldnt workout.

What teams both want to trade for them (for reasonable return) and can offer protection slots?

Thoughts on Jake Debrusk? 3.6 million for 1 year. Left wing. 27 goals 2 years ago. A nice weasel.

We don’t really have the cap flexibility to take a chance on him. 3.6 million is way too much for his current play and if he does break out we can’t afford to re-sign him anyway.

It'll be interesting who we replace Kerfoot with in the likely event that Seattle takes him. Teams are not going to give us a good offer seeing as we have no leverage via trade.

What do you mean? For Kerfoot or a deal to fill his spot?

I'd take something below par rather than losing Kerfoot for nothing. ie. If Kerfoot's value on the open market would be a 2nd round pick and a roster player that's likely a #6 dman/4th line forward - then I would gladly take a 3rd round pick and a B level prospect. If you know that he's gone, then why not try to recoup some draft capital that was lost at the deadline.

I think Seattle takes him and we'll need to fill his position via trade or FA.

So the Leafs will be at a disadvantage in trade because they lost Kerfoot and teams know the need to replace him? Wouldn't this hold true to the majority of teams losing a player?

I went thru the expansion draft on Capfriendly and there are a few teams that could use them and have slots to protect. I think cap space will be the key piece. With a flat cap you can get someone for equal value at a lower cap hit
