I'd still keep him unless we can get better players. Feel like they would have gotten a better deal in arb but that process is brutal and I can understand not wanting to go that route.

Obviously if you can't fill out a roster you keep the player. If you have options in UFA though it is wasteful to spend 3M on a 3RD.

I am also anti-Zadorov but he played ~5 minutes more per game (20:09) in the playoffs than OEL. He is also 4 years younger than OEL and 100% more physical.

Seems to me like the Leafs liked Liljegren more than overpaying marginal upgrades. I think I prefer a few players hitting the market but they can't force players to play here either

I would prefer Liljegren at 3M over OEL at 3M. OEL played 15:26 per game in the playoffs and he's a LD. The fit makes no sense.

Depth option and a bit of puck-moving? Kylington is who I want for that role.

Am I'm the only one who would take 3x3 of OEL over 5x5 of Zadorov?

You may get your wish, but I would 100% disagree. Watching Zadorov battle with the Bennet's, TChuck's of the league would be worth the extra 2 million alone. I wanted him at the deadline and it sucked watching him play well for the Nucks.

But even I have my limit. North of 5 is a lot.

I’d target OEL over Dillon personally. Partly for this reason. I think OEL still has it in him

Leaves $4 million for another defenseman.
Leaves $0 to carry backup forwards/defenseman until Tanev or Wolll get injured and we can accrue some space.

assume Gregor and Dewar or equivalent get signed and stay with Marlies until injury or Reaves gets waived.

question = whats best defenseman we can get for $4 million. I dont think that gets Zadorov, it may get OEL. Definitely doesnt get Roy or Montour. Maybe Brad can talk Zadorov into it if he gives him too much term

I keep going back and forth on Montour, but if Tanev is signed I actually like the idea of paying Montour and basically having two "1B" type pairs.

Loads up the prospect/draft pick pool which Dubas depleted, and saves a few dollars on the cap. Most of the wingers are pretty interchangeable. Just gotta trade for a goalie which should be doable
