Was bored so decided to go and read the PGT from game 7 vs Habs, game 5 vs CBJ, and game 7 in 2019 vs Bruins.

It's always the same damn things being called out and no matter what it doesn't seem like anything changes.

2019 we faulted Babcock + Kadri + nylander

2020 we faulted injuries+pandemic+Andersen

2021 we are faulting Marner+Matthews

The names are changing/coaches are moving on/newer departments are being formed yet the end result simply does not differ.

3 peak contention years absolutely wasted by this organization.

I have zero clue how this team can fix their problems. I get if it was one or two guys but we change the wheel and someone else just emerges to disappoint the team and lose us a critic game.

I don't see what Dubas can do know. His mistakes and roster building decisions are set and he isn't a flexible or adaptive person. He's sticking to the core and the defensive top 4. He has his coach who deploys systems he believes will win us series.

At this point, I don't know if it's time to send the entire team to a sport psychologist and have them work out what's wrong with them mentally.

This team via the likely/rumored trade/free agency doesn't look to me like one which will be able to beat Boston or Tampa.

The players have to change and sacrifice their lifestyle and playstyles. It's time for commitment to the sport and team. No more short cuts and bad decisions. No more soft plays. No more missing glorious chances and making predictable skill moves.

The players have to mature and win. They're in their primes and have to deliver

With Tampa in cap hell, I'd look at maybe getting some of their players at a decent cost. I know they're in our division but it's worth a shot.

To Toronto-
Palat
Sergechev

To Tampa Bay-
Rielly
Mikheyev

i would send them Sandin and Brooks plus picks for Cirelli.

Which is why we need a better guy than Tierney and Demelo. Let's say the deal looks like this:

:leafs
RW Travis Konecny
RD Phillipe Myers
LD Cam York
2022/2023 1st round pick
2022 2nd round pick

:flyers
RW Mitch Marner
RD Justin Holl

Would that be a deal the Leafs should consider? Philly would likely need to do something with Ghost and JvR to make the money work of course, but that may be the kind of deal the Leafs would have to do if they want to move Marner.

The other would likely would be something like this:

:leafs
C Alex Turcotte/C Quinton Byfield (the rest of the deal may depend on which one we get)
LW Adrian Kempe
2022/2023 1st round pick

:kings
RW Mitch Marner

Of course we can also gauge things based on Eichel's return if he is moved, since Marner likely returns less but not significantly less.
I love the Philly trade, but why on earth would they do that?

If there's any legs at all to the Leafs having interest in Taylor Hall...what would the plan be? Do you unload a guy like Nylander? Do you make a big move for a backend piece involving Marner that saves you cap? Hall & the Leafs definitely make some sense. Especially when you consider Hyman is asking 5+ mil per. Hall has openly said he wants fit, and wants to stay put somewhere for a while. He trains in Etobicoke and is friends with JT if I'm not mistaken. Hall around the 4.5-5mil mark would be pretty hard to turn down

Marner isn’t your prototypical Flyer. I doubt they’d touch him with a barge pole. Seattle is the best hope if unloading Marner is the objective.
why is seattle the best hope? they literally have no one on their team except 1 player.

Hall would prob allow leafs to trade nylander for a ……Seth jones?
But not sure that happens scared of doing that if jones isn’t extended
Rather trade Reilly for jones and move Brodie to left

I prefer 88 for Hall and Jones and trade Rielly over Rielly for Jones.

I do not make any trade for Jones unless he agrees to an extension.

My issue even with that is Rielly is far more likely to give a hometown discount and stay from what the rumours are. Seth Jones is in all likelihood a 1 year rental that'll go to market for 8+ mil next season

Leafs are not in a position to trade for one year of Seth Jones. No extension, no Jones. Can't sign Hamilton ? Resign Rielly at 8x7m max.

Dubas seems like he's the most honest GM in the league, I fully expect him to bring the core four back when he says it. I think we hope that Rielly is extended/traded and Dubas does his best in FA or trade to fill in the roster again.

If he runs it mostly back the same and they get bounced in the 1st round or fail to make the playoffs, he's basically getting fired. He used the coaching bullet already once.

I think he's willing to stake his career on this for better or for worse.

I'm not sure he's even that close to being fired. With all the Leafs rumours that get thrown out daily, not one has been about Dubas being on the hotseat. I get the feeling his job is fairly secure with the Leafs and it would take yet another first round loss -or worse- to get him on the hotseat.

I think Seattle will be gunning for someone like Marner, if he is available.
Got terms, real dollar is lower than caphit and he can be market being the 4th points scorer in the league…
Would be interesting the package coming the other way, as I have no idea who Seattle can trade.

I like the idea, but I don't think it'll happen. I'd be shooting for a Pacioretty to Vegas type return, Tatar+Suzuki+2nd. Which in Seattle's case could be something like Killorn+1st round pick prospect+2nd and then we also have 6.5 million in cap space to fill out the roster.

Would likely be above Shanahan even that would decide that and I don't feel like the board is gonna leak Shanny/Dubas on the hot seat.

That's the expected return on a Rielly trade, not a Marner trade.

They've been patient with the Raptors, so I'm not sure they're going to submit to the rabid response of leafs media/fans.

I actually believe that if this core fails, Dubas will still be around to handle the rebuild.

Raptors had some runs. I think they only had 1...maybe 2 1st round losses that would be disappointing? Pretty much progress after that. Kept losing to LeBrun in a sport where stars tend to dominate. Added their own and won...they moved a core guy like DeRosen too.
