Seems incredibly risky to expose Price. Yeah the contract but the marketing of a big name goalie who just went to the Finals could be intriguing to a new team in Seattle.

The big moves keep coming with NMCs being waived. Probably safe though if Driedger is going to be drafted by Seattle and signing with them. Have to imagine that's being done with having the inside track on being their starter.

Yeah I think with McCann it's 7-3-1 now. Kerfoot, Holl, and Dermott are exposed now I'd think. We'll know soon enough.

Edit... actually kerfoot protected now too most likely.

How?

McCann made 7-3-1 a no brainer I'd have thought

The quote:
"A source suggests Justin Holl is expected to be protected, making it likely the Leafs have a side deal worked out with Seattle that has Kerfoot ending up with the Kraken."

So in the end it won't matter about protection since they will have a trade/deal worked out with Seattle for them to take Kerfoot.

I was just going to say... yeah if that's the case then 7-3-1 or 4-4-1 doesn't matter. They'll take Kerfoot either way.

Thanks for adding the quote. I should have done that lol to make it less confusing.

Probably they take Engvall or Malgin and we trade them Kerfoot for picks. We get picks, they get two guys they can put in their lineup and don't have to pay Kerfoot's bonus.

7-3-1 seems way easier IMO...just suck it up on Holl/Dermott going and get assets for Kerfoot.

Makes sense, thanks for that explanation

If they wanted Kerfoot enough to trade picks for him, why wouldn't they just take him? Engvall and Malgin are junk.

Francis knows what he's doing and that cap space is extremely valuable. I would says theres a 1% chance they take Price.

Why would they give up picks for Kerfoot? We're bribing them to take him not the other way around

I'll be unbelievably happy if it isn't us giving up the picks in this scenario

Maybe Seattle is enamored with Kerfoot and the Leafs threatened to protect him, so Seattle is trading us stuff to have him?

:sarcasm:

damn. I wanted him.
Guess we target his linemate now?
I wanted him too but sounds like the price tag is going to be around 3.5-4 million per on a 6 year deal. That's just nuts.

And if that's what Goodrow gets you gotta think Coleman is looking at 5-6 million per on a long term deal.

Seattle would have to know that we'd leave Kerfoot unprotected or available to trade for. They get something extra (whatever that is) for being in the driver's seat and are potentially selecting who they might have taken anyway. Toronto at least gets something back in return (whatever that is).
