I'd like to see how the playoffs go, if he does well to great, I would consider an 8 year deal at 12.5M-13M AAV real money but he would need to defer to artificially lower it to 11.5M on our cap.

Take it or leave it.

13M x 8 = 104M

104M / 7 = 14.85M

Someone going to offer him 14.85M?

The Leafs need to stop bidding against themselves.

So you considerating marner will retire from NHL at 35? Its maybe the only way that can make a little sense comparing salary total from a 7 and 8 year deal, His 8th year (extension) should be at 0 ...

You think a player like EP is going to return a pending UFA?
Try and think a bit before the froth
Absolutely no interest in Pettersson, and nowhere in my post do I make that proposal.

I’d look at Miller in that situation.

Nice redirect on my point, which is why you think Nylander will waive his newly signed NMC but any time anyone mentions pending UFA Marner waiving his NMC, the mere mention is met with thinly veiled contempt.

As for froth, the only froth I have is on my beer.

Cheers to all.

I’ve been a big fan of Zibanejad, he’s having a pretty rough season this year but no doubt he’d be able to get back on track on a good team especially playing behind someone like Matthews. I doubt he’s available but if he is, I’d love to get him.

Problem is the Rags likely would also want a hockey trade for him. They won't just enst picks and prospects

Why is it unthinkable that Marner won’t waive an expiring NMC yet you put the guy who just reupped, who also has a NMC?

Very one-dimensional takes when it comes to Marner.

Absolutely no objectivity man, and it’s beyond old now.
Geez dude put a little thought behind your post.
Would Vancouver rather a guy signed or a pending UFA?

Not everything is about the froth.

I’d gladly trade for Zibanejad I could see him having chemistry with Nylander, but someone like Granlund is much more realistic given the cap hit and state of the Sharks. Also the Rangers might want more “now” ready pieces to try and compete while the Sharks would be ok with futures.

Bring even more skilled player to raise team skill and thinking you will win more in playoff with only skill was not the Dubas strategy?

Granlund is Dubas type of player, not treliving type

Zibanejad is a solid two-way player. Locked up at 8.5 million is great value for an elite second line center. Second line of would be amazing.

Knies - Zibanejad - Nylander

With wich money?!?!?!
Domi would need to be involved going the other way, Jarnkrok would have to stay on LTIR, Kampf traded and Reaves waived. Run a 20/21 man roster instead of 23.

I don’t think it actually gets done, like I’ve already mentioned. Wishful thinking but he’d be an amazing addition.

He has looked absolutely brutal this season. Maybe a change of scenery is what he needs but Im not willing to find out. If he doesn't bounce back you have an anchor that destroys your cap.

He’s too good of a player to just fall off like that. The Rangers in general have been a complete disaster.

Too expensive and just way too hard to make it work in season. Completely removing the balance and chemistry is not what this team needs.

This team doesn't need to make some sort of blockbuster risky move to take the next step. They just need to make a smart addition or two. They really don't need to get a struggling 8.5M player.

1-Playing in a 20 men roster is Dubas stuff, not treliving. 20 men roster become pretty risky for injury and even with your move, that's still extremely hard to fit his salary.

2- Its not s player who will bring more grit or emotion to the game, probably the 2 thing leafs need the most, so i'm not sure leafs will become a better Playoff team with Zibanejad.

3- Like Sprdave said, if he doesn't find his game back, he will become pretty fast one of worst NHL contract

So personatly, i don't have any interest in him

Petey would be awesome playing for the Leafs.
For some reason his plays dropped ever since he signed his contract earlier this year.
I just don’t think playing in TO is good for him as he is an introvert.
If there is a deal to be done with the Leafs, it will most likely be MM(given MM also agrees to a contract with Nucks). Which if Petey plays well, Leafs will also no longer be handcuff by AM in a few years.

It would have to be Nylander going the other way

I think everything would be determined by contract ask.

Leafs have already agreed with 2 of their stars.

They have one player who isn't under contract that could be an option, but my guess is they'll come to an agreement.

Any transaction would require a NMC sign-off.
Sign and trade one soft playoff choker for another ? Petey's a C who's cap hit is something Marner will never accept so would you rather pay Marner $1.5 million more than Petey or gamble that Petey finds his game here?

If we are not running it back, the trade makes sense.

Funny how the guy who always brings up Marner's NMC suggests we move Nylander who has a NMC instead of Marner who is a pending UFA and wants close to $14m. Give me Petey.

Really it would have to be Tavares as a rental for the rest of the year to balance Cap.

Then you add players, prospects, picks, Minten (local), 2*1st. rounders, ...

At his point Tavares would likely be the better player for the Canucks.

The only deal that makes sense for Vancouver with the Leafs is Petterson for Matthews

There a win now team with a hole at 1st line center if Petterson is traded and it has to be filled by this trade

Nothing else really makes sense for them, if it makes sense for the Leafs to do that deal is a different matter entirely
