I would still do it. There is always the need for a big RHD and his upside is quite tantalizing … even if he tops out as a reliable top 4 guy and not a top pair, that price is good for the long term.

Landing him and not giving up one of their top assets in Greb, Knies, Cowan, Danford, Minten would be pretty stellar. There is a need for quality D in the pipeline too.

I agree the fit is awkward especially since the Leafs are competing but there was a big opportunity here too

The fit was very awkward. Jiricek is all about draft pedigree. He barely played in Columbus at the NHL level. Was he going to play over Timmins or Hakanpaa this season? Probably not. But I'm also not as confident in his upside so maybe that doesn't help.

We already have a fairly limited amount of good assets to trade in terms of picks and prospects. So using a lot of it to not even fix the lineup doesn't really make sense. If Jiricek was a center or even a winger, I would have probably been a lot more interested.

Minny obviously liked him enough to trade a lot of futures for him. We'll see if it works out.

How do feel about bringing Jake Walman back to his hometown? He's having a great year in SJ and showing hes a good top 4 dman. He's 28 so he doesn't fit with SJ's rebuild so it makes sense for both teams.
Another left shot dman might as well have kept lily if we’re doing that bad asset management

Seems pretty pointless, especially with a couple bodies coming back from injury. Rather just keep giving guys like Minten, Grebenkin, etc an opportunity.

Injuries slow him down last 2 year but hes a guy who play with a lot of energy and playing and with a great hockey sense.

If hes able to overcome his injury and find his game back, pretty sure everyone here would love him

harvey-pinard on waiver could be an interesting target with all leafs injuries

He's not a big player and I just don't see the Leafs having any interest for what they need. It's probably not worth it at all.

RHP is/was pretty solid, he's just been injured a lot so the Habs are hoping to stash him in the AHL after a lengthy LTIR stay. He's also carrying a cap hit over 1M, so not really great.

The Avs traded a young goalie and a pick for Scott Wedgewood. Surely we can get some kind of pick for Matt Murray at some point
Possibly a late pick from a team that needs goalie depth going into the playoffs. The Avs wern't going to trade anything for a goalie that might not be available past warm ups. They needed a bit of breathing room, even if it's mediocre.

Not big but playing with a ton of grit, can play up and down the line up

What i saw right now is leafs having 2 top 6 line and 2 4th line with no 3rd line and to have succes in playoff you need 3 line. For me the player who really are top 9 player is core 4 + knies, mcmann and domi... that's it... RHP can be an upgrade for anything remaining after those 7 player and be a good complement for a 3rd line... For 225 K over robertson who kill the play most of the time he touched the puck, personally i take the risk..

They do have a 3rd line. What they need is a center to solidify it. RHP doesn't fix any of that and putting your eggs into a player that's been injured for a long time isn't really going to make it better than the current players. Testing our own young players is worth much more than picking up a broken player with a chance at being ok for a couple weeks. Montreal doesn't even want him in the NHL and they are awful.

McMann, Pacioretty and Domi are all going to be back within the next 2 or maybe 3 weeks depending.

Its not putting all egg into RHP but tell me what leafs really have to lose?

Grebenkin i liked him and will probably becoming a good piece but hes not NHL ready...right now outside of hitting, hes pretty useless

Minten showing good thing but need time to still developing in AHL to maybe take 3C spot next season

Robertson: did we really have something to lose here? He had been pretty useless all year long

Holmberg look even more like a 4th line defensive specialist

dewar/ lorentz /kampf 4th line player

If its doesn't work, just moved it back on waiver when people coming back

Love the trades, would do the lines differently

Knies Matthews Nylander
Mcmann Tavares Marner
Pacioretty Dvorak Domi
Lorentz Kampf Dewar

McCabe Tanev
OEL Fabbro
Reilly Timmins (Reilly needs strictly o zone starts)

Yeah I noticed at the least 88/Marner needed to be swapped, overlooked on my part.

I haven't really followed Jiricek's progress so maybe his development has just been way more underwhelming than I thought but that trade seems light. Perhaps we don't have the appropriate pieces not having a 1st this year, but that's a trade I would have been very ok with us doing. Getting good D is tough once they've developed so you either have to draft them yourself or made a shrewd trade when someone else is willing to trade one before he's developed.

He might turn into a very good D, but we just couldn't afford to do it. Our priority isn't a prospect D man, who isn't ready for the NHL on a team like ours... heck, he's not ready on Columbus. There is nothing wrong with that of course, he's only 20, and it could be a few years away. We are a compete now team, and it looks like we will really need a 3C addition this year. We don't have a lot of assets we can afford to give up, and the few we have, should be spent on things we need NOW, not things that are nice to have.

My top two targets for the trade deadline would be Dickinson and Olivier.

Knies - Matthews - Nylander
Pacioretty - Tavares - Marner
McMann - Dickinson - Domi
Lorentz - Kampf - Olivier

Priority is leaning to offence but if we do add on defence I suspect the play is to set up a Benny/Cabe bottom pairing.

Rielly-Tanev
OEL-_____
Benny-McCabe

Proven playoff warriors that work and bring the pain. Get another one with size and I'd rate that d corps the strongest going into the tournament.

Ha.

Jiricek coming with red flag. It's a player who don't want to commit in a team system and that's the reason why Waddel traded him

leafs gaving poor prospect pool and draft pick. Sending majority of good pick next 2 for a ridk, doesn't make sense st all contrairly to minnesota who having a pretty good prospect pool and could eqsily take the risk...

I honestly think we might be overrating Cowan. He's on an amazing point streak but he's only a little above ppg in his second overage year.. he's Marners size but not even close to as dynamic of a player. I think if there is a trade to be made for someone who will help us win the cup this year or next we need to go for it.
I would do Kadri 50 percent retained for Cowen if that was an option
