Ok now call Dumbass and trade Tavares for Crosby, then we are contenders. Right now I think they could win 2 rounds depending on health and draw. This team/lineup won't win 3 rounds.
What’s that got to do with trading Lilly, your train of logic has gone off the tracks , try to stay on point if your going to reply to my posts, I don’t mean to be rude but when talking about apples bring up tomatoes doesn’t mske your point or any sense…….

I’m sorry but if you think this team could win 2 rounds, there’s pretty much no reason to then argue they wouldn’t be able to win 3. There really is marginal separation between a top 4 and a top 8 team

Anything is possible if this team comes out of the Atlantic. Not sure why people make comments like these.

Liljegren + Jarnkrok for a 2024 2nd + 4th would be an ideal trade that would free cap space and allow us to put together a good package for an important piece at the deadline.

The talk of moving Liljegren is incredibly premature at this point. Chances are high, that he'll end up being a regular in our lineup for the rest of season, or most of it. Even at worst, he's good depth... same with Jarnkrok. Later in the year, if there are opportunities to improve, sure... but for now, it's premature IMO.

The Leafs like their current depth.

I'd only advocate for a trade if we needed to do so. I'm more then happy letting this group continue to compete for spots and show their value as games continue to be played.

Obviously this is super early, but looking ahead to some needs/targets Toronto might be looking at. I would say still 2 way 3rd line centerman (Maybe Holmberg becomes that this year, would feel better pushing him to 4C).

A top 4 dman (I like our d-core now, looks better if you can push one of OEL/McCabe to the 5-6 hole to play with Beniot. We finally have enough depth guys not to be trading picks for them.

Would say we are pretty set on wingers/depth there.

EARLY Trade deadline targets: (players/targets could change depending on how teams are doing):

Centerman (based off of teams I think that won't make it):
Yanni Gourde
Mikael Granlund
Brandon Tanev (don't think he's good enough to be 3C)

Defenece (more interesting):
Provorov
Chyrchrun
Savard
Borgen
Theodore (Wild Card just based off of Vegas being savage).

With Durzi out long term for Utah, that might be another option for Liljegren now.

To Toronto-
Barrett Hayton
4th Round Pick

To Utah-
Timothy Liljegren
David Kampf

That separation is often top players producing. And past history showed our top guys can’t produce in playoffs when comparing to other top guys who had.

Not a bad list of targets. There are always a few surprises for both buyers and sellers so it will really depend on that. It also depends on our injury situation by the deadline, where some needs can grow exponentially.

I think Brandon Tanev will be among the high list of targets, but he's a winger so it may not make sense until the off-season.

I would add Scott Laughton as a top target for center upgrades (and there has been plenty of smoke the Leafs interest in him for awhile). Brock Nelson might be on the market if the Islanders don't do well and he's really good. I'd also have some interest in Jake Evans from Montreal.

For D, I think Alec Martinez might be a big time veteran. He can play both sides too. Leafs may circle back to Mario Ferarro (a lot of smoke they were in on him for a bit). I also like Savard and Borgren for RHD defensive upgrades.

I don’t get the love for Pontus Holmberg. He is the definition of a replacement level player.
I don't know, I like Pontus. I think he has shown flashes of upside and is decent offensively and defensively and very inexpensive.

Do we have any replacement level players that can play C or W, up and down the line up and PK? He does all of these things OK and none of them great.

The team likely runs the risk of him being overmatched if he ever becomes a permanent fixture in the top six, sure. OTOH, I also think he's comfortably above the level of being a "replacement player". He seems just fine to me as a third liner in both pay and play.

He's cheap, and he's not bad.

I'd move him in a package to help in another area or to recoup some picks, but until a Marlie like Quillan or Minten takes his spot, he may as well stay.

I am not saying he is one of our six best forwards, but I would like to see him on one of our more balanced top three lines with Nylander.

Knies Matthews Marner
Holmberg Domi Nylander
Pacioretty Tavares Robertson
Lorentz Kampf McMann

Jarnkrok Dewar Reaves

Holmberg brings defensive play to a line with Domi and Nylander and he has some creativity, flare and drive that he needs to bring more consistently.

Side Note. We have to move a F or two unless someone expensive goes on the LTIR. Dewar and Jarnkrok will be back and Reaves will still need to get some games. This doesn't even consider Minten. You have to think Kampf is getting moved.

We might end up in a situation where teams start asking us if a goalie is available some time this season. The avs are gonna be desperate for one if their season continues like it is. Probably any of our 3 goalies would be an upgrade for them.

Ritchie is the only player on Colorado who I think is worth giving up 1 of our goalies for tbh. Idk if Chicago would do that but they are desperate for a goalie and Ritchie gives us someone who could be a 3C this season and possibly a 2C next year. Again though, how desperate is Colorado and do we want to touch our goalie depth this early in the season.

I see no way the Leafs removing their goaltender depth at all this season. You always end up using at least 3 goaltenders through a full season... we already have. It would take a pretty big overpay to make sense to me. The Avs really should have been all over Askarov, but maybe the Preds didn't want to trade within the division.

I could see AA used as a trade chip if his value is relatively good but not sure he'll help any NHL teams this season.

Next off-season though maybe things get spicy.

Good ideas here. I do agree that he'd have a role to play there at times (ex. as the defensive conscience of the line when the team is trying to protect a lead) and he absolutely does have some offensive capability which can show when he's placed alongside superior linemates.

I hope we turn them down.

It seems like we finally have decent depth at the position this year, and for a very low price. It's a nice feeling.
