Yankees rotation right now, in terms of guys they have who have/can make starts for them:

Tanaka - Constant threat for his arm to explode again. Good, but not great

Eovaldi - Mediocre

Sabathia - terrible

Pineda - hurt

Nova - hurt

Capuano - godawful

their top pitching prospect is also nearing his innings total from last year so there is questions if he will be able to help the Yankees down the stretch.

They need to add an arm to patch that rotation.

In the last year the team has added Donaldson, Martin, Tulowitzki and Price. 3/4 are here long term. The feels.

Oh they likely add someone. but what's left? Leake is probably the best. Kennedy is alright but not great. and I'm not sure they have the pieces to entice San Diego to part with Cashner or Ross.

They have the pieces but from all previous reports it seems like Judge, Severino, and Bird aren't being moved. Maybe they go for a Ross now, but I think they'll probably target Leake.

I love Donaldson
He acts so calm and acts as if this trade isnt a big deal when you know that he knows this is awesome

Means he has chracter issues. Right?

The concern with this deal is the rental aspect. Jays give up the future for Price and he walks at the end of the year.

It's the most obvious risk.

Just wondering, anybody have examples of these kinds of deals that really blew up in the faces of the rental team? (And I don't count deals where the prospects became really good and the team getting the rental won the World Series or came close)

I've been thinking about it the last hour or so and have only come up with two, both involving the Expos.

Way back when they gave up a package of players to get Mark Langston. One of the young pitchers was Randy Johnson. Years later the Expos acquired Bartolo Colon for a package of players that included Grady Sizemore (and someone else that turned out really good that is eluding memory).

Any other examples?

Bedard to Texas.

And it was Cliff Lee + Sizemore to Cleveland.
