Do the Jays get to make a qualifying offer to Price after the season?

I know it won't happen (Price is too good to get caught in a market crunch), but what if the market for pitchers this winter is soft and Price can't get the deal he's looking for?

Is him accepting a qualifying offer, coming back for a season with this offense and going free agent again next year a possible (but extremely remote) scenario?

No, they don't.

If you're David Price, why wouldn't you want to stay here?

This is a Championship caliber team, we have the money to offer him, and he's dominant at the Rogers Center.

Closer to family in the South. Ties with Joe Maddon and the Cubs. Living in LA with a lot of money. I can see why Toronto is enticing, but so are other teams.

No. new system prevents QO's on guys you acquire mid-season. He just becomes a straight out FA as soon as the season ends.

I think one sweep of the Yankees isn't unrealistic.

We are the better team than they are now. And their rotation is imploding.

I was talking about sweeping the remaining 13 games we have left against them since that's what the OP seemed to be hinting at (with "way better than 9-4" record comment).

No QO and no compensation if he goes. Doesn't apply to players acquired midseason

I bet you that not a single guy in the clubhouse is looking at the wild card. They are all looking at the Yankees and the top of the division.

Yankees rotation right now, in terms of guys they have who have/can make starts for them:

Tanaka - Constant threat for his arm to explode again. Good, but not great

Eovaldi - Mediocre

Sabathia - terrible

Pineda - hurt

Nova - hurt

Capuano - godawful

We still have a solid enough farm although very young.

Pompey, Alford, SRF, Tellez, Vlad JR, Pentecost, Harris, Urena, Hollon.

Not many pitchers are available now. Wouldn't surprise me if they add a guy for the rotation though.

The Yankees are like that sitting duck no-name golfer that is leading the Masters after the first two days.

The Jays are like Tiger in his prime who is currently 6 under par on the front 9 of the third round.

Yankees are gonna blow up. :handclap::handclap::handclap:

Division is obviously the ultimate goal. Bigger leads have been given up than 7 games.

However, wildcard isn't bad. In a one game playoff, with David Price pitching, and our lineup, I'm not sure how many teams I'd bet on over the Jays.

Oh they likely add someone. but what's left? Leake is probably the best. Kennedy is alright but not great. and I'm not sure they have the pieces to entice San Diego to part with Cashner or Ross.
