I need someone to explain to me why St. Louis is taking Brodie for the sake of a late first round pick and a tweener prospect. Why do they have to trade him now?
he's an expiring contract that frees up 6.5 mil over the next half decade and can still be flipped for more assets or play out the season
pretty simple as to why actually

Listening to the latest Leafs Report podcast today,

CJ mentions Leafs ideally wanting to add two D and a forward (likely a centre). Says the market is 'strange' and we may very well see the Leafs waiting until 259pm tomorrow to make their last deal as they wait for sellers to come down. In past had suggested Brodie may be on way out for cap room

Mirtle says he's heard internally some in the organization have been frustrated Lily and his development arch so far

Edit: CJ also seems skeptical about Lily's future with the team. Mentions new GM not having connections with these players. Though he mentions he's unclear what his actual value is.

He's lived his entire adult life in St. Louis, and not very long ago signed a long-term contract to stay there. He isn't a kid anymore, and I have no idea if he has a wife and/or kids, but he's from the West and has no connection to Toronto. I just don't see the draw for him.

McCabe waived, he had 2 more years on his contract and isn't even Canadian.

Not convinced he wouldn't waive.

I get it, but what pressure is St. Louis under to do this now? I think these deals generally get done in the off-season or at the draft when there are more teams with available cap space. Anyway, we'll see what happens. I think Toronto is just going to add a depth forward.

Avalanche target grit, "an organization that knows what there doing". Toronto targets two gritty dman that will help the PK and stop the cycle "WASTE OF ASSESTS!!"

Were Lybushkin and Edmundson notable PK guys? I think they play the playoff style game you need, just didn't know they PKd all that well.

I think if Toronto can get a top end RD then those 2 additions look even better.

If he adds Dumba it's a mound of crap lol.

And I would ask, why not?

Familiarity with Rielly and Matthews from young NA team

We're a good team.

When has a player declined to waive for Toronto?
cant remember the name... a Habs player declined a move to Toronto a few years back, claiming, he couldnt imagine playing for Toronto after so many years of hating them

Look at the age, production and injury history of Trenin & Duhaime. They're currently good players that fill their role nicely and trending upward. Edmundson has been ridden hard and put away wet. Not that he is the oldest guy, but his back is forked and he hasn't been serviceable in quite some time. I'm not convinced he'd thrive on this team. I think Trenin & /or Duhaime would have been much better adds in a bang for buck sense.

Good question.

Maybe his partner is from St. Louis and he has no intention of waiving.

But, if your team asks you to waive it means they really like you and want to keep you?

why is this organization so hell-bent on getting rid of Lilly? so dumb. I can understand trading him to facilitate a trade for a dman like Parayko but why get rid of a young promising D for no reason. players sometimes take time to develop. I don't get these "frustrations".

I would imagine for the same reasons anyone does - he likes living where he is. It's not like he's playing for the Arizona Coyotes.
The Blues are about to hit a rebuild or a reset. If he wants to stick around for that that’s his right. Not many guys decline waiving for the Leafs though
