I think on defence you can wait until the deadline and get a Dumba, Zadorov, Dillon etc double retained.

At center, I’d like to see them take shots at some young guys on waivers and give them an opportunity in our bottom-6. Foudy would’ve been the type of guy who I’d target.

Just some stats window shopping... Arizona.

Crouse - 1 assist in 6 games.... 7th in TOI, 9th in 5v5 TOI for their forwards.
Kerfoot - no points, but 64% in faceoffs.
McBain - 1 goal
Dumba - 1 goal, -3, and getting caved.

Crouse @ $4.3 million, and they've dropped him by three minutes per game..... he can't be thrilled.
Kerfoot @$3.5 million... doing nothing, but hey he's collecting $7 mil for the next two years, so who cares.

McBain last year looked like an up and coming 3/4 C... small sample set of course... and Arizona is a tire fire... but man.... He's also had his time cut by two minutes a game...

Who can we subtract from this lineup to even make a trade?

Samsonov, Kampf, Jarnkrok? We are right against the cap.

There's about as much credibility to that then there was with Marner and the offer sheets - which you believed was very real.
Lol. That's just flat out not true. That wasn't even the media, which I consistently take with a grain of salt (especially when it's speculation after the fact and not a report in the moment). Marner getting offer sheets was explicitly confirmed from the source itself. Not remotely close to some random media personality throwing out "I think"s and flip flopping on vague speculation regarding outdated preliminary trade discussions that didn't go anywhere.

I know Dubas isn't here any more but Barrett Hayton could be a very intriguing option. He's off to a very slow start as well. Not sure how much he's valued there but he did have a solid breakout season last season. Maybe he's due for a change of scenery.

Kerfoot has a xGF of like 38% with no points. He's really not doing well. It's better than Kampf and Reaves though.

But I could see them chasing a wild card spot. So they may not sell if they do relatively well.

I know it’s the Habs, but Jake Evans at 50% would be a sweet pickup for our 4th line C. Toronto kid, good on face offs, great energy, $1.7M for this year and next. 50% would bring him down to about league minimum.

Slow starts appear to be a trend with him - he had 5 points in his first 33 games and 38 points in his last 49 games. The year prior he had 3 points in his first 19 games and 21 points in 41 to finish the season.

Montreal should theoretically be willing to part with him given they won't be competing for the life of his contract and they can just slide Andersson into 4C. He'd be an awesome 4C for the Leafs.

Also potentially relevant to this board - he did play 2 years with Andrew Peeke at Notre Dame.

Hypothetically if we ditch Holmberg+Timmins and bring in Evans+Peeke (with retention) I think we’re a better overall team. We know Rielly plays best with a shutdown type of D like Schenn.

Knies-Matthews-Marner
Bertuzzi-Tavares-Nylander
Domi-Kampf-Jarnkrok
Gregor-Evans-Reaves

Rielly-Peeke
Brodie-Klingberg
McCabe-Liljegren

Something based around

To Toronto:
Peeke
Evans

To Montreal:
Timmins

To Columbus:
Holmberg

Montreal is loaded with tweener RD right now I'm not sure if they'd be interested in Timmins. I also don't know if either Montreal or Columbus would retain. I'd think the Leafs would have to clear cap space to bring in both. I also don't know what the situation with Peeke is like - I imagine they have offers that are more valuable to them than Holmberg.

Personally I'd avoid Peeke and go to Nashville and ask about Fabbro. Fabbro was Josi's partner last year and played well in that role but he's been replaced by Schenn this year. There is also a trade that makes sense with Jarnkrok for Fabbro.

Fabbro would be a solid addition, not the big physical shutdown defenceman we’ve been used to trying to pair with Rielly but does bring a very solid defensive game.

Hopefully Knies can get a look up with Matthews and Marner sooner than later. I think he’d be excellent on that line with his puck pursuit and stick checks. It also gives us one of the best top six forward groups in the league IMO.

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Bertuzzi - Tavares - Nylander

Biggest hole is that third line center position.

People actually wanted to deal Willy for Crouse :banghead:

Let's just say the Sens were hurting by Christmas...does anyone here entertain making an offer for Pinto?

I am very high on the kid. I doubt they would trade him to us, but probably the most intriguing 3C option out there for me. Someone like Colorado would likely be very high on him too.

Another intriguing option might be Couts.
