I want Tanev for next year but I do wonder what his contract looks like. 2 year deal?

I would like to take a swing at Bear first. Tanev probably will not move until the trade deadline.

I think Tanev would be fine with a 2 year contract extension. Anything more would be too much given his previous injury history, the miles put on his body and his age.

Rumour had it that Treliving left on bad terms and Calgary’s owner has no interest in dealing with him.
not really. It was more that the board of directors was looking in a different direction than Tre. The only thing that has been said is they are hesitant to deal with him due to his insider knowledge of the organization.

Murphy would be my top target.

Rielly - Murphy
McCabe - Liljegren
Lagesson - Brodie

I was thinking the same, give Willy a chance at a cup and the experience that comes with it. The rub is whoever would make that trade would be a cup contender and what if they win the cup, would 88 want to return to Toronto? I think not………

Players don’t generally return to teams that traded them just months earlier. Also, removing the option to sign Nylander 8 years drives up the AAV. The only advantage we have against other teams who will want him, beyond a preexisting relationship and this year to extend him before others can talk to him, is that we have the 8th year option to keep him more affordable.

Let’s say he wants $80M
Leafs 80/8 = 10M AAV
Anyone else 80/7 = 11.428M AAV

*these are just example numbers to illustrate the point, not predictions

Some have already mentioned him here but I'd take a look at Bear.

I'd also be interested in taking a look at Puljujarvi if Robertson is dealt as part of a deal to bring in a D-man. Puljujarvi might be good beside Kampf similar to the way that Engvall was and maybe you bump up Gregor to play with Domi and Jarnkrok.

I'd like to keep him as well but if he's the piece you have to include to make a deal for a D-man that they can keep beyond this year, you'd have to consider moving him.

He's building back up some of his value this year but I am still not sure he will be all that useful come playoff time.

Brodie is getting worse and worse and needs to be replaced in the top 4. So if you can root out all his money, in conjunction with getting a top pair guy it would be an upgrade from the very top. That's kind of a separate thing than Tanev, whom we would have money for from the Klingberg LTIR.

Brodue is still our best defensive defenseman who's currently playing with Rielly who's having arguably the best season of his career

Now we have the assets for two top pair guys? Seems reasonable

Seeler and Tanev. That’s who we should target.

Both have produced tremendous defensive roles in the minutes they’ve played. For Tanev, that’s the second pair, for Seeler that’s the third pair.
I think this is the realistic option for this year, extend both of them and chase a bigger fish 2nd pair guy in offseason when you have cap.
Rielly Tanev
Brodie Lily
McCabe Seeler
Gio

If Tanev is too pricy then do a two for from Philly and grab Walker, you wouldn't need Philly to retain cap as their combined price is less than Tanev (which also speaks to quality) but would make the deal cheaper.

I’d rather trade kampf
He is lost on this team
For a player who is described as a defensive specialist
He looked like shit on Seattle’s second goal . Made a half assed effort on it.
He has no place right now on our team.

Not sure who would want him at 2.4M

Laugh all you wish @arso40 but this isn’t even remotely considered a controversial opinion.
Are you watching any of the games or just the highlights ?? Mean no disrespect by it either just curious as why you think that?

They have been true but it’s definitely false now

You may not mean it disrespectfully but is generally a pretty cheap discussion tactic to imply that because we don’t agree I’m not watching the games.

I watch every game for the record. Brodie hasn’t been perfect by any means, but best defensive defenseman on our team this year is a fairly low bar.

And in my opinion they need to trade him as well yo can see the decline much rather a tanev and a different look to the top 4 he has been good over the course for sure but last years playoffs til now he looks real off and it’s a longer sample size then a lil bit eye test never lies

Id be open to trading Brodie to bring in a replacement with term beyond this year. I think that clearly makes sense, but if we bring in other UFAs I see no upside to removing Brodie.

Well, the eye test says it’s still Brodie defensively, so agree to disagree. I’ll let someone else sus out the so-called “advanced metrics” (aka twist and/or cherry pick them to fit their preferred narrative of the day). I don’t place a lot of value in many of them.
