i was going to post this, a bunch of people just saying "4 million cap hit" over and over..lol which isnt remotely close to the cap hit it would be

That plus he already got paid out 1 mil in signing bonuses and half of the remaining 7 mil in salary paid out.

Buffalo might actually want Kerfoot on account of them needing some NHl forwards and him not having a choice but to play for them if he's traded there. If we ship him with futures for Hall and do the double retention thing, we'd actually be freeing up a decent chunk of deadline cap that can be used on our other needs - #3C and #7D.

i havent followed the ins and outs of our cap situation, but with the double retention im pretty sure we dont need to move anything out to fit the cap in.

The closer we get to the TDL, the lower the cap hit so you might be right. Would be awesome if we could get him without giving up a roster player.

For some reason it seems like almost no one realizes this.

With double retention (similar to what the Leafs did for Vegas last year w/ Lehner), you can get Hall's AAV down to almost 1 mill (and maybe less).

If the cost at 50% is a 2nd + a decent prospect, to get double retention you add a 4th or a 5th rounder. No matter how bad some of the clowns on this board want to galaxy brain themselves into thinking Hall isn't a good player, you make that trade every day of the week.

I imagine we probably have something worked out with Chicago already. We helped them and Vegas last season, and it’s already been said they are willing to do similar to what we did last season.

I am personally not excited about Taylor Hall. I don’t think he’s as bad as some here say, but he’s simply not an elite player anymore. However, if we can get him without giving up a first, or a significant prospect, I certainly don’t see how anyone can be upset with that, even if you aren’t hot on Hall like myself.

My guess, if there is a deal that happens, it would be 2nd + SDA for Taylor Hall 50% retained. A 4th/5th to Chicago for double retention.

No, we wouldn't.

Hall's AAV at 50% retention isn't 4 million. It's also reduced by the percentage of days that he's already been on Buffalo's cap.

If you get another team to retain an additional 50% (hello Chicago?), the cost of that is a 4th-5th round pick.
you just don't get it do you???

His 4m is used to measure him against our guys ,,adding him at 4m is close to a departing Kerf at 3.5m

without having to go into the minute details that don't matter at all.

He's definitely not elite anymore. I don't think it would be possible for us to add another elite player at this point.

He's still quite good and with the players we would be playing with him, I like the chances of him being more than good.

If the trade is 2nd + prospect (SDA/Hallander/Abbrusezze) + 4th/5th, you do it without blinking.

A lot of people using the word 'overrated' when talking about Hall. If you're expecting an elite 90 point player then yes, he's overrated. If you're expectations are that he can become a 50-60 point player again playing with Matthews/Marner/Tavares/Nylander, then I don't see how the term overrated can be thrown around logically.

To me, he’s more of a Phil Kessel in Pittsburgh acquisition. Someone we’d probably rather play with Kerfoot/Engvall and Hyman for example.

Hall is 29. He had 52 pts in 65 games last year. His advanced stats are solid this year.

He's still a high impact guy - he's just getting Buffalo'd. This is a team where Jeff Skinner has 4 pts in 29 games, folks.

I'd have an orgasm if we acquired Hall and he had a Kessel in Pittsburgh type impact.

Who knows about impact, but more in how we’d use him.

Leafs could probably do a lineup like;
Simmonds - Matthews - Nylander
Thornton/Gally - Tavares - Marner
Hall - Kerfoot - Hyman
Mikheyev - Engvall - Spezza

Or maybe
Simmonds - Matthews - Marner
Hall - Tavares - Mikheyev
Hyman - Kerfoot/Engvall - Nylander
Thornton - Engvall/Kerf - Spezza

If you get Hall, you put him into your top 6 - where we currently have a gaping hole (if not 2 holes, if we're making our 3rd line a serious checking line lead by Hyman).

No doubt most players are getting Buffalo'd there but there is a difference between Skinner and Hall. Skinner hit the jackpot and has disappeared while Hall is looking for his jackpot and should be highly motivated.

ive always wanted chris kreider on this team, if the rangers fall out i wonder what it would cost to get hm. just a pipe dream though prob.
