I like the idea of going after both, but I think it makes the most sense if Freddie is done for the year (or at least through the regular season+), you know roughly what Ullmark wants contract wise, Leafs take back a contract they can bury to balance the cash cost, and probably add a good prospect.
- Buffalo retains 5.3m, but because Freddie can be LTIRd they can take off his 5m.
- Leafs can take back a guy who makes good AHL cash as well, like Davidson (287.5k), Dea (700k), Irwin (700k) to make it so from a cash perspective Buffalo doesn't actually pay out any extra cash.
- Leafs send back someone who has potential, like a SDA/Hallander/Kokkonen
