Wouldn’t be surprised if we see a Muzzin+ for Chychrun deal

Muzzin comes back in a few years and becomes the new Giordano if he’s healthy enough.

Start the season with:
Chychrun-Rielly
Giordano-Brodie
Sandin-Liljegren
/Holl

Dude Muzzin isn't waiving. Arizona says hell no

Next year he does not have a full NTC, and that is likely when we will trade him, but it likely won't be to ARI. There will be some younger team who will want a veteran presence on that left side and will have the cap space for him. We will likely get something similar to the Duncan Keith return assuming Muzzin still looks like a solid defenseman. LA actually makes perfect sense for him in that scenario.

The Leafs should not be touching Chychrun at anywhere near the price that ARI wants for him anyways. He is not worth two top prospects and a first round pick. He is maybe worth Muzzin's return, which is not that far off given that Durzi and Grundstrom were still solid prospects in their own right, but I doubt ARI are taking Durzi and Grundstrom-level prospects.

EDIT: Didn't even mention Chychrun's lengthy injury history either.

Muzzin is injured too often, so let's trade him + a bunch of futures for a guy who has played 16 more games than Muzzin over the past 3 seasons.

How many times do we need to be down 2 or more LD at the same time before we realize running 3 injury prone guys at LD is a bad idea?

Rielly isn't really that injury prone. He had one season where he missed like a month but other than that, he has only missed more than one game in a season in 3/8 of the other seasons he has played and in those, he missed 6, 6, and 9 games.

Gio has been nicked up a little bit more, but he is keeping it together fairly well for a guy who is almost 40 as well.

Sandin and Muzzin... Not so much.

Okay but you're still converting muzzin into a 23 year old. Jakob is young enough to get over his injuries still but muzzin is forever in maintenance. Jakob has the tie breaker if you're making them even.

Glass half full not empty.

Injury prone guys, are just injury prone... they don't really get over it. Maybe this is the one exception, but I doubt it.

Kerfoot+ Holl = 5.5 Chychrun+ Holmberg/Steeves = 5.45

The questions
,does the futures cost make sense?
does it makes sense to include Sandin as part of that cost given both the long term LD situation and shortterm total D situation?

Weegar still isn’t extended in Calgary.

Take any assets you are thinking of throwing for Chychrun and throw them at Weegar instead.

Better use of assets and finally a long term RHD solution and a very good partner style to work with Rielly.

How do you plan on fitting him in the cap, if he extends? What type of contract do you believe he will be signing? His style also morphed last year quite a bit, and IMO he needs to get back to his older more defensive style... but you know, being involved in goals is more fun.

Stars waived a bunch of players already.

I could see the Leafs potentially claiming or trading for Ben Gleason or maybe Joseph Cecconi.

I don't see claiming as a possibility. We'd have 50 contracts, blocking us from signing ZAR. But I could see a trade, to give a couple of D bodies in the system, sending someone out.

Nobody on waivers this early in the preseason is worth claiming.

Even trading for them is usually not worth it, but if we are really lacking in bodies, then we may not have much of a choice. There is also a matter of who we would dump... I doubt anyone wants Rindell and Gogolev, and those are the only prospects really worth "dumping" right now. Maybe someone would take Ovchinnikov, but I doubt the Leafs are moving him in a contract dump right now.

Our best hope would be either some waiver claims on some of our guys or moving a guy like Kerfoot.

We should sign this guy to a Marlies contract, just for the giggles. He was released by the Stars from his ATO. I don't know if he has an AHL contract though.

Linus, Rasmus's brother is on waivers... not that we have contract room, nor do we need a mediocre RW on the Marlies.

The team trading for Chychrun should get the yotes to eat 50% of the caphit, but take B.Little's LTIR money off their hands.

Would be an insane value contract at 50% but if taking Little could reduce the price of acquisition I think that’d be better

Isaac Ratcliffe had a decent stint with the Flyers last year and was the only guy worth claiming.

I think our last contract spot is reserved for ZAR.

Leafs should do a 2 for 1 type trade though to get contract flexibility back, especially because we wanna add Knies.

Although I suspect at some point whenever we get fully healthy, we're gonna need to send Kerfoot or Holl to free $$.

I would also guess that we are likely to have a guy or two claimed anyway.
