Is there a deal in place to trade Holl/Kerf and we're just waiting for Sandin to accept one of our offers?
God the salary cap sucks the fun out of the sport, this is so silly.
i thought they should bring back the non compliance buyout (or whatever it was called)....essentially you can buy out one contract without it costing against the cap.....put rules in like you can't do it two consecutive years in a row...and maybe its a tradable asset for small market teams.

Actually it isn't calculated that way, as @Fogelhund noted earlier:

So Sandin signing in season would actually hurt the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Sounds

Pretty sure they wouldn't add supplement years it's one and done. So prorated would be where it's at.

Minnesota just trade Kulikov to Ducks for future considerations and easily have $4 mil in cap space and a need for more forwards.

Kerfoot to Wild E5?

Possibly. Minnesota was one of the spots that made a lot of sense when it came to Kerfoot, but they also just signed Steel and may want to try out some of their prospects full time (Rossi, Dewar, etc.).

They also make sense for Milano and Rodrigues of course. Maybe they also just wanted to give Merrill or Addison a spot, and Kulikov was too expensive to be a 7th defenseman for them.

Who really knows. I imagine there is some other move, even if it is something small like signing some more defensive depth (since they could use some before that deal and need it even more now), attached to that deal.

Maybe it’s Holl and some forward, either a UFA as you suggest or even Kerfoot. It does look like they are making room for a move(s).

Minnesota still has 7d even with Calen addison, so they aren't trading for any d that they don't need. They just signed steel for cheap because they aren't trying to spend to cap with needing to resign boldy next year. They also have Rossi and Beckman needing roster spot

It would be fairly odd for them to trade Kulikov for nothing and then bring in Holl.

However, they do have room for a top 9 forward, and I think Rodrigues, Milano, or a trade like Kerfoot makes sense for them.

I don't know how good they'll be but crazy theyll basically have like 3ish of cap space despite 12 million in dead money and at least seemingly trying to be ok at least

Thompson deal will probably be fine once the cap goes up & Buffalo is rebuilt

Until then they stink so betting long term makes some sense, just a bit pricey.

I think people have to remember, you probably have to overpay to get players to want to stay in Buffalo, not exactly the nicest of places to live and play.

Aren't they just managing their dead cap situation this year?
Even worse the next two years at 15M (not sure if they would get relief for retirements?).

They have a pretty impressive 64M team at the moment.

Doesnt look like they really need a Kerfoot right now but a medium paid forward with a contract that ends next year might be up their alley with what cap they currently have.

They could actually squeeze Kerfoot and Holl in.

They just signed Steel and are having a couple of prospects (Rossi and another) that will be with the team.

$3.1 in space for some wiggle room to start the year I think.

Minnesota actually can't. That will push them over the cap. They traded Dmitry because they are read for some youth movement being in cap hell. So Rossi, Beckman, calen addison will have roster place. Then little money for when greenway comes back and injury callup

Thompson had a good year, but it was a career year. Bought high in this case. Risky.

also slow news day...
full

Considering Rodrigues and Milano seem to still have options and multiple interested teams, I doubt middle 6 forwards like Kerfoot are moved until they sign.

Funny... most of the players on the NFL Bills seem to love it there. It's really the perennial losing that's the issue.

Tage Thompson is huge, plodding and not particularly physical. He has a nice shot and doubled his career shooting percentage for one season. What is the phraseology again? Regression to the mean? Expect no more than 25 goals per season going forward. And it may be worse because teams may just start playing tighter to him and he may get shut down completely. There's a good reason why there hasn't been a Phil Esposito/Tim Kerr/Dave Andreychuk type in a couple of decades.
