I think we've forgotten how limited Luke Schenn is. Holl is Bobby Orr in the offensive end compared to Luke Schenn and Schenn is a very basic defender. Don't ask Luke Schenn to swap sides during a shift or throw up a quick breakaway pass.
And yet Moneypuck has him as part of a top 5 pairing in the league

Imo, it's nice seeing Schenn still finding success even with his more one dimensional skill set

Funny time to make that point. Updated with Brodie-Holl reaching the min minutes….

We are actually might be doing a trade where one of our goalies goes to the awful other direction. Some of our injured one. Even murray. Who knows. But getting korpisalo might be fun. They are really in on it and beleaving dubas is making the real move here.

He's been a bit of a rock for Hughes, who is as defensively strong as Rielly on his own.... so kudos for Schenn for stabilizing that pairing.... and for that reason, it's improbable that Vancouver would trade him.

If you drop the bar down to 20 minutes... Rielly and Liljegren are in 4th, with x0.9 GA/60

At 89.9 minutes together, Giordano and Sandin have 0 actual goals against, 5v5.

There isn't much choice but to keep these pairings together for now, they all seem to be working

Rielly Liljegren
Brodie Holl
Giordano Sandin

He's not a player you want to start a massive rebuild with, but for a limited role he would do just fine.

He's pretty settled in BC in the Kelowna area right? I doubt he would want to return to Toronto and the pressure situation here. He'd fill that Bogosian role on the bottom pair though.

WINGERS
1 Marner
2 Nylander
3 Bunting
4 Robertson / Malgin
5 Robertson / Malgin
6 Jarnkrok / Kerfoot
7 Jarnkrok / Kerfoot
8 not that important but for now Aston-Reese / Engvall / Abruzzese / Steeves
9 not that important but for now Aston-Reese / Engvall / Abruzzese / Steeves

Are we happy with that going into the playoffs? This is assuming we add a rental 3C, or maybe some combination of Kampf Engvall Holmberg somehow begins looking very good at 3C and 4C by the trade deadline.

Of course Vancouver wants to fix cap anchors off their team. So many dumb mistakes on their cap that were avoidable. I have no idea why they re-signed JT Miller either. I have no idea why they signed/traded for half the players they have.

The only player that would fit our needs is Luke Schenn I think. Vancouver will end up re-signing him for some dumb reason and wonder why they can't get any better.

Horvat would be overkill and a pricey addition but that would load up the team's centre depth quite well....

Thing is he wouldn't get the same PP usage and minutes and likely would be tough to re-sign.

We have the room for 1 Muzzin contract sized player. Horvat fits and maybe the Leafs should double down on their forwards so they can finally score goals in the post-season.

Jesus ... he's throwing Boudreau under the bus so hard. No wonder they're struggling, there is some serious issues between management and the coaching staff

Yeah he completely threw him under the bus. I think this is pretty crappy and a big disrespect. Treat him with dignity while he's there... he's your coach you idiot. Boudreau should just walk away from that team.

It would solidify the top 9 .. that third line is still finding its way.

If Robertson can prove he's capable in the top 9, that makes it easier to move Kerfoot since Horvat PK's .. and he's be a good boost to the second PP unit.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Robertson-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall-Horvat-Jarnkrok

Don't really understand why Rutherford has taken such an anti-Boudreau stance. Don't like him? Let him go. You're a president with a GM, go find a coach if you don't like his structure.

If you really want a big trade, and take on some of their big contracts... Horvat, Demko and Ferland... have to move Murray and Kerfoot to them for contract considerations... I'm not sure the actual costs of such a deal, but it wouldn't be cheap, that's for sure.

Ferland is retired, and his contract goes to LTIR... but Vancouver has tried to move the contract before, to save money, and taking him on, might be attractive to Aquilini.

Demko hasn't had a great year, but their D is a complete tire fire, and a lot of what's been given up, hasn't been his fault. He is a very good goalie, and could be the solution we've been looking for. Of course, Horvat at 3C would give us a very deep team.

Off season move
Obviously. But if we do nothing in playoffs again, Marner for Dobson seems like a logical move.
We get a top right hand D for many years to come and Islanders get their top winger finally.

I could see Horvat being an offseason UFA target, upgrade on Kerfoot. Not as a trade target though.
