Yikes... is this just because he doesn't care, playing in Chicago, or is this who he's become?

It's who he's become regardless of the reason. If moving to a new team compels him to change, then good for him and that new team. But he also has to face the repercussions that his lack of effort has on teams wanting to move for him.

He looks like he has absolutely no more f***s to give.

Paul's production in his small stint with TBL during last year's regular season is near identical to Bunting this season. Also Paul plays C. It truly depends how much Dubas' or his replacement pushes Bunting and uses his line mates against him.

Engvall-Holmberg-Jarnkrok is fun - I like it.
Ok well I dont think that small sample would matter in negotiations as much as the full seasons production. Paul had 32 points last year and Bunting had 63.

The reality is he will get 4.5-5.5 somewhere and we just have to decide if we want to pay him or not.

The Leafs have two options really for the bottom 6:

Continue to roll more of a sheltered line as they have and heavily use Kampf’s line as a shutdown

Or

Add more physicality and size in the bottom 6 for tougher depth to play against

If it’s the former you might as well look at a guy like Kane that could give that secondary scoring a big punch, and provides more versatility for adjustments in the top 6 as well.

Depend of what is your definition of physicality is and i dont thing size is that much important

On the Capitals, any chance Connor Brown is back for the playoffs? Original injury timeline was 6 to 8 months announced on November 1st - So optimistically May 1st.

He'd be a way better LTIR add then Nyquist. I have no idea how his recovery is progressing though.
Playoffs will likely start mid April so he'd miss the first round if that was the case.

Well, either he completely forgot how to play hockey overnight or he's a tad upset that Chicago traded away all of their talent and is blatantly tanking with Mrazek in net and maybe 5-6 actual NHL level players on their roster.

Which one seems more likely?

He could choose to be a professional. I'm sure he has no issue cashing this crappy teams cheques.

Is this the player you'll get if things don't go his way on his new team?

I think it's more about how people absolutely want to get rid of people not playing hard all the time.

Nor do they want to acquire players who only play when they feel like it. I can't see the Leafs wanting to acquire anyone who subscribes to the "I'll play when/if I feel like it." model.

True, although there's always a possibility he's ahead of schedule. Like I said, I have no idea how his recovery is going but if he's tracking for a playoff return definitely be a good (and also cheap) add.

I just see a player witha lack of motivation, the guy is 34 want to win, hawks didn't make the playoff last 5 years and they TRADDD ALL THE BEST YOUNG roster player with hagel, debrincat, dach and let go strome...

do you think the guy is interested to go in the corner and playing over 100% when everything their GM did since hes here, he trying to get get the worst team possible on the ice to win Bedard lotery...

i telling you, put kane in Toronto and will see his motivation at 200%

This level of attention to the defensive side of the game is nothing new for him

There are no guarantees, however. That's the issue.

He is being professional. Chicago's mission is to lose as many games as possible, and he's pitching in.

I love how folks will ignore that he's been a ppg player his entire career (including the playoffs) and led his team to 3 cups, but a couple of video clips of him not trying on a tanking team completely convinces folks that we're better off sticking with an Engvall.

We have a great opportunity to buy low here like Edmonton did with the other Kane or Boston with Hall, but let's reject it because we have clips of the guy floating on a team purposefully tanking.

Maybe he should just sit out then. If he has an injured hip, it might allow it some rest. It might also maintain his trade value for Chicago instead of him being out there looking like an ECHL-level player. It would also give Arizona a chance to use a prospect in his place and have a hungry guy out there instead of a guy who looks like he just spent a week at the Mandarin buffet.

There are never guarantees with deadline pickups. You try to get the best player possible at a position of need for the lowest price possible. That's all you can do.

Predators may be sellers. What are some thoughts on Yakov Trenin? For me, he's a good 3rd liner and has attributes that we need.

-great forechecker
-LW but can play C
-very physical with size
-provides some offense (17 goals last year)
-fights now and then (fought Chara)
-1.7 million for the next 2 years
I would be all over Trenin if he was available. Super cheap all around 3C

I followed kane since hes junior and i guaranted you he will... he did it all his carreer... with London, usa, hawks... every where he goes, he gave up everything he had... but at the end of the day, hes an human

Exactly leafs have the chance to add an all-stars player without overpaying ir because he want to play here with a NMC... a chance leafs will probably never have again... and people say no and try to find all the reason of the world to avoid it...

I don't understand why him tanking would upset you. I could understand it if you were a Blackhawks fan, but him lowering his value is only to our benefit.

Kane is the 6th highest scoring player in the NHL over the last 5 seasons. 20th highest over the last 3. 15th highest scorer last year. All while playing on bad teams with mediocre line mates. Clearly, he's still an elite player who still likes playing hockey. Don't let a half-season on a team undergoing the most blatant tank job in league mislead you.

ps: The entire Chicago team is prospects/journeymen, some likely rushed. He's not stealing anyone's spot.

Would be a good target for the bottom six, shouldn’t cost a whole ton either.

And everyone who say leafs need to add size on fowqrd group to have a chance on playoff

2015 chicago stanley cup team
Ht 6 ft
Wt 196

Leafs actual line up
HT 6'1
Wt 201

With kane

Ht 6'1
WT 198

So please dont tell me leafs are too small to win it and absolutly need to add size

they need forwards that can score. unless adding a huge forward makes us score more goals in an elimination game, we will have the same issue we always do. Not scoring when it matters most.

Don't care if they are 4'2 or 6'1. Get me a guy who can score in game 6 or 7.

Honestly, I'm just astounded at the blind arguing in his favor, to the point you would think that their favorite team is the Toronto Patrick Kane's.......

I want any player that makes us better, but I'm not blindly throwing everything at a player who brings a lot of question marks and I'm not convinced will merit the price paid to get him, and what the opportunity cost of bringing him is. By that I don't just mean the assets we trade to get him (which may indeed by minimal due to the garbage below average season he's having), but also another player we might have traded for but didn't because we brought in Kane instead...

Bottom line for me: he's 34 years old, I've always questioned his character and that hasn't changed, he may or may not be hurt and the physicality ratchets up in the playoffs, can he thrive or even survive with whatever is/isn't ailing him?

Too many question marks with the stakes too high for Dubas to make any mistakes here. I say the money is even that he doesn't even change Teams this TDL, but if he does, I'm seriously hoping it's to go somewhere else. Worst case, he comes at the price of a song, and is one of several Forwards we bring in so if he craps the bed, he's out of the lineup faster than you can say "Aki Berg"........

We've already seen one serious Stanley Cup contender in the NYR look at him and decide to go in a different direction, who I'm sure could have gotten him at a discount too. We need to be that smart as well.
