Yep, but, why would Philadelphia do this? They decided not to move him when he didn't have a contract and now that they sign him and he's become a leader on that squad with a letter on his jersey and they've locked him up for 3 more years past this one and now they're going to move him?
Maybe because Philadelphia thought they were closer to being contenders than pretenders before this year began?

Maybe because Laughton’s trade value is probably at the highest it’ll be and a team will overpay to acquire him this year?

I’m not sure, maybe you’re right and Philadelphia doesn’t want to move Laughton. Who knows lol

feels like there is no way bunting takes 3.75
don't think he should be paid more.

Bunting is a good player but he won't drive his line. Rarely are goals scored because he was the driving force behind them. I can count like maybe 3-5 individual plays.

His best asset is that he fits with the top 6. Why not take a long term deal to stay in your hometown, get more commercial opportunities than anywhere else and be well known?

IF anyone pays 5 for him they'll regret it.

I hear ya, it'd be nice.

I'd imagine the cost of acquiring him 2 years from now will still be high. They'd get 2 more years out of him and have the choice to use him for playoff pushes if they're in it or cash in their trade then if they wanted. We'll see I suppose.

Agreed. If he played in the bottom six, his production would easily be cut in half.

I think a fair deal for both sides would be at the 4 million dollar mark.

I wonder if Philly would retain on Hayes enough for him to be an option. Seems like hes fallen out of favour and he could play anywhere in our lineup, but it doesnt make sense unless theyre retaining

They’d need to retain the full 50% IMO. Definitely something to look into. There were reports not too long ago that Philadelphia could look into buying Hayes out in the summer so not sure what would make more sense in terms of retaining 50% for the next 3 years or buying him out in the summer. Too lazy to look into it.

Decent player, I'd worry his lack of pace wouldn't be what we'd be trying to do.

As a team that needs to improve the forecheck I don't know how that'd go.

His contract is massive. The amount of real dollars they'd have to pay just for him to play for another team and cap hit dollars would be huge. Not sure they'd have the appetite for something like that.

The problem with laughton, hes probably having more value for philly than anybody else...hes a good beteran playing the right way and giving the right exemple for the young player who will junp in...

But are you ready to pay at least a 1st pick for a guy who didn't have a higher production than kampf last 2 season at even strenght and coming with a 3M contract...

To me ROR is pretty damn ideal.

He slots in at 3C and then you can almost have one of Matthews, JT or ROR on the ice almost an entire game and when it isn't them it's Kampf who doesn't give up much at all.

As for the top 6 LW? ROR can play there when it's in need as well. Down a goal? Toss him up there with JT/Willie.

Up a goal? Put him with Matts and Marner and give up nothing at crucial moments.

He PKs, he can play on the PP.

He'd bring an offensive punch to the bottom 6, you'd see the bottom 6 wingers score more with him down there.

What would be the cost to add in Acciari? 2 birds one stone.

Agreed, health is the big key there though.

Agreed. Same thing applies to Boone Jenner. Both would be awesome 3C's for us but at the same time they're great players to have around for a rebuild

Does Robertson still hold any real value as a trade chip or would he be considered a 'toss in'?

I think he still has some value considering his AHL production and age. I dont think the leafs have given up on him by any means. They would definitely trade him but not as a toss in.

I mean Marchment just got 4.5 based on one years production. Bunting has now done it 2 years in a row. I cant see him getting less than 4.5. Whether or not we should pay that or not is up for debate but I think he gets underrated around here a bit.

Agreed I don't think it makes any sense to give up on him at this point.
Just wondering how other teams would value him. I would think his value must be at his lowest right now.

The problem is that we really need 3 pieces in my opinion to win the Cup, 3C a 2LW and a D. Minimum 2 pieces to win a round or 2.

LW
Meier
Kane (play Willy at LW-or bump him down)
JT Miller
Bertuzzi

3C
ROR
Laughton
Henrique

D
Chychrun
Gavrikov
Soucy
Ekholm

The problem is cost to buy. We will be hard pressed to pull off 3 deals.

I think the best shot is:

Miller (under valued right now) might be a dick, but he’s a shooter and exactly what we need.
Henrique - cheapest to acquire.

Gavrikov - Pure rental but an upgrade to Sandin.

OR

While I don’t personally love Kane. If he says Leafs or nothing. We get for cheap.

Then get ROR and Chychrun.

This team doesn't need 3 premium additions to compete.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Laughton was used as a 2nd line LW here to play alongside Tavares and Marner/Nylander.

He’d basically play the Bunting role for the second line, and he can do it well also. He’s feisty, skates well, goes in dirty areas, plays a full 200ft game, physical, etc.

On top of all that, he’s also a really good penalty killer.

This would still allow us to even go out and grab someone like Acciari for the bottom six if wanted.

I wouldn't be opposed to 2 adds like that - doesn't have the flash that a Meier brings but would really round out the bottom 6 quite well.

You can tell who watches other teams and who doesn’t based on how many perceived holes people believe this team has.

Realistically we are 0 adds away from a cup, rather they are a mentality change away. We have the top end talent to compete with the best of them and a system that covers for any potential depth issues up front. An add or 2 or 3 is just bonus, but the team as is still is among the top contenders in the league.

Bingo, I think he is a marginal upgrade and got a first plus outrageously expensive.
Swing for the fences and improve the team.

My preference is, unfortunately, quite limited to Timo Meier. If we can't land the big fish then i don't know what I'd do - probably some combination of bottom-6 adds at much lower prices for which many have been discussed here.

Henrique and Comtois would be a pretty intriguing package IMO.

I'd guess his value around the league is pretty low, like you could probably get a 3rd rounder for him from a few teams.

I really don’t think we need to blow our brains out going for the biggest and baddest piece out there. A few smart, targeted adds (3rd line, maybe a D) could be just as effective. We already have the top end talent. This all said, I’m not against adding more at all, those can just be complicated adds
