Yes, Kane's underlying numbers have been trash this year...

BUT

He's still playing at a 60 point pace.

The hope for me would be, coming to a good team will go back to his legs for a run and he can be insulated way better so his defensive shortcomings won't be as bad.

So involving a 3rd team for retention, playing through an injury (admitted, but minimized), steep decline in production, and has to be sheltered defensively.

I think too many people are fixated on player name value. This is not the type of player the Leafs need at this juncture if they are spending significant assets.

Honestly, if Kane is a player we bring in, and we pay anything near a premium, and he's our "Big Get", then all I can say is we deserve to get bounced in the 1st Round and Dubas needs to go. Enough is enough.

I was extremely disappointed to see NYR get Tarasenko for 2 reasons:
1- I wanted Tarasenko here.
2-I wanted Kane to sign there so I didn't have to spend the next month listening to stupid media continue to link him to us.

Dead set against him from the beginning, and his whole attitude has only deepened my dislike for him having any connection to our Team.

From Dubas comments yesterday it doesn't seem like Kane would be an option. He'll only do something bigger for a guy with term or that they can sign.

It's the media trying to stir up some bullshit. They do this every trade dead line and say a big name and add Toronto to it.

They'd be stupid to waste major assets on Kane. Not happening.

I would seriously doubt it. That's a ton of assets that the Leafs just don't have unless they mortgage everything they have.

Yea probably a pipe dream, but I could see Dubas trying to get both because he needs to be bold but also trying not to mortgage the future by trading for rentals. Both Meier and Chychrun won't be rentals. The prospects pool would be gutted but we won't be in the same position as Florida.

I was on the Kane bandwagon early this season, but the injury concerns, mixed with his drop in production, mixed with his age, mixed with the cost to acquire. I just don’t see it.

Even if he’s not a pure rental, and we can re-sign him, I don’t know what to think about his longevity of effectiveness from here

While it has worked out with Gio, I wouldn’t bet on getting that lucky twice. And the risk is way higher, because even IF he commits to staying with us, he’s not doing it for anything approaching the sweetheart $800k Gio gave us

Dont overract for kane production... its exactly like using him with kerfoot or kampf and engval ( without defensive ability of those player) but against top opposite matchup night after night... it whats its look like playing with domi and anasthasiou all year long.

Kane having a NMC who can affect drastically his value... if hes only accepting to be trade in 2 or 3 team, hawks will need to make a deal with one of those 2 or 3 team... so no bidding war + adding a good chance to resign him...

I'm all ears. Again I'm not saying he's ineffective - I'm saying he's not a blue chip prospect, that's all. Expecting him to walk into a top-6 role here this year is a big stretch.

I for see him starting out on the 4th line and working his way up.

Tarasenko would have been a better get than Kane IMO too. Having said that, I am 100% against using a first on a rental, so this deal the Rangers made with a 1st made it very unpalatable too.

He's at 3.6 per which shows you there depth, the young kids have been great for them in there rolls

I'm a fan of Steeves and hope he's given a legit shot at some middle six ice time and make things easy for Dubas, Knies should fill in that 3LW spot if his play translates to NHL and McMann is a very Formidable 4LW, which to me leaves a hole at 3C with 2C insurance.

For a start Matthews is more than likely going to resign with us, we can offer him an 8th year and he's a player that likes the spotlight
There's no bigger spotlight than Toronto

That's the same **** everybody used to say about Washington, they kept on trying and eventually they won a cup, quitting makes you a loser so keep on trying to win while we have one of our best cores in recent history

Winning a cup is hard, not every team can win but at least try when you have this many gamechangers
