As insane as it's been, it still feels like there's 1 move, maybe 2 to come.

Rielly
Brodie
McCabe
Schenn
Giordano
Liljegren
Gustafsson
Holl
Timmins
________
Benn
Mete

We can probably let 1 defenseman go

I still think we'd say in a perfect world there would be 1 more credible scoring threat.

Does he trade a defenseman like Holl or Gus for 2nd or 3rd round pick to recoup some assets and that's it or does he flip the assets?

Liljegren is not a prospect. Liljegren is a 23 year old top-4 right-handed NHL defenseman, on a great contract, with multiple years of team control left.
No chance he would be included in a trade like this.
And there's a reason Arizona isn't getting their ask.

Troy Terry or Konecny with 2 million retained would be nice.
If we flop in the playoffs again we could flip Nylander for 1st round picks and prospects to fill up the cupboard again because he's going to cost 10 plus, but at same time essentially replacing him with Konecny or Terry.
This is what they should be aiming for imo, but I think those two guys will be a bit expensive both on the cap and what it would take to get them in terms of prospect and draft pick capital.

We need the LW version of McCabe. A two-way 4-5 million dollar winger with term that comes with retention, so ideally half price. This guy could play up top with Matty and Nylander in a top 6 but also drop down on the 3rd line to give us a boost in a shutdown role.

Booner Jenner would be the dream imo. But some cheaper options would possibly be Henrique, Toffoli , Backlund, etc.

I'd rule out anyone who has question marks defensively like Domi, especially if they bring Knies in the fold. You wouldn't want Knies (who will be playing his first games in the NHL) and then having another player who can't hold his own defensively.

XX/Knies--Matthews---Nylander
Bunting----Tavares--Marner
Henrique--O'Reilly--Jarnkrok

Chychrun McCabe

Other issues aside Keefe has indicated they envision McCabe playing the left side regularly, so I don't see adding Chychrun as a possibility.

The guy's on a 40 point pace without playing the top 6 and no top unit PP time.

His defensive impact this season has also been really good.

I want him gone, but he's not moving if they're not getting good value for him.

With Knies possibly joining the team too, did some research for those looking at still wanting another scoring winger.

Was looking at 5v5 points production (/60) over the last 3 seasons among the 206 forwards with at least 2000+ minutes.

83. Kopitar
84. Kerfoot
85. J.T. Miller

Not too bad.

OK but how has he been defensively?

Lowest xGA/60 among those 206 players?

13. Kerfoot (and lowest among all Leafs forwards)

OK....

but how has Kerfoot been in the playoffs the last 3 years?

2 goals, 8 points in 14 games. (4th among Leafs forwards)

Kerfoot might be fine going forward?

He's obviously underrated defensively and brings more offense than many think too.

I respectfully disagree on the offense. He had 1G1A last year against the same opponent we are facing this year. He had a career year last year with 51 points.

Based on the roster he would be playing with worse linemates this year, or at least linemates that he's shown very little chemistry with until this point in the season, his worst offensively since his first year in Toronto.

There is nothing to indicate he will do better than his 1G1A last year in a career year against the same opponent. I'd say it's pretty reasonable to think he will do worse.

You make a fair point that he's likely underappreciated for his defensive game. However I would argue even that was soured after he took an idiotic penalty in the offensive zone on a PK causing a 5 on 3 in a game 6 elimination game which directly lead to Tampa Bay tying the game. That doesn't eliminate his defensive game as a whole, but when he's contributing very little offensively, he can't afford to take stupid penalties. Certainly not ones that lead to such a significant goal against.

If the Leafs acquire another top 9 winger, I think the goal would be someone who can score more with the hope that ROR could provide an equally effective defensive game as Kerfoot.

Even with my personal dislike for Kerfoot, I'd agree that with Engvall gone it doesn't make sense to just unload him for nothing. However, I think he can be upgraded on quite easily, especially with the new complexion of the bottom 6.
