Retained Ekholm and brought in Korpisalo and Gavrikov - good day(ish) for the Western Conference!

Korpisalo is at least an upgrade over LA's previous options in net. I believe Dean Lombardi wasn't big on handing out NTCs/NMCs while GM of the Kings? Owing to that, tough situation for an almost career King in Quick.

I can never forget that series a few years back against us *sigh* what year was that? He totally stoned us.

He stoned Tampa a fair bit too. But Vasilevsky didn't let in brutal goals like Andersen did so Tampa was able to figure out a way past him.

Man literally made 85 saves against Tampa in a game... And still lost.

Can face palm all you want. Karlsson is a norris trophy caliber defenseman and would be our highest scoring player. @ $5.75 mill a year he’d be worth it for most of his contract.

Reilly Brodie
McCabe Karlsson
Gio Lilly

Ridiculousness

I’d obviously like to make the trade without giving up knies but the leafs are trying to win the cup and Karlsson would be the biggest add left out there.

Is Carolina doing anything,? Everyone else in the east loaded up. They got pool party.

They will probably pick up JvR or maybe even bring back Domi. Either that or they go after a bigger fish with term, like Garland, Schmaltz, Henrique, etc. They desperately need scoring.

It feels like PIT is gearing up for some kind of sizable swing too. Maybe even Chychrun. Or more possibly another strong forward to provide more scoring.

I have to imagine that Colorado does something too. Add some guys to their bottom 6, like a Bjudstad or Bonino (or Sheary if they need wingers). Nothing too pricey on cap or assets. Same with EDM.

Seattle should at least add a goalie, if nothing else. Talbot is probably the best option.

Any goalie that is reliable in some fashion. It's a must if all this is happening.
No, its a dumb idea and a waste of assets and cap space.

Who is a clear and obvious upgrade at a reasonable acquisition cost and cap hit.
And no, Korpisalo is not it.

The media has done it's job so well. They have every Leaf fan totally dissatisfied even after all the moves because the media convinces everyone that the Leafs are not above average there already, and that the team won't win unless it is perfect with 23 superstars.

I wonder if the Orlov + Hathaway package was ever on the table for Sandin+. Would sting that they don’t have contracts next year but it would be the bigger all-in move for this year.

Me and a mod from the Minnesota Wild board have agreed to trade Marcus Foligno for Boston’s first. lol
We will have to move Kerfoot in a separate trade to make the cap work.
I’m sure this will give some people Foligno for a first flashbacks but this one isn’t old and broken and isn’t a rental. So who wants to call Dubas and tell him?

If only life was this easy lol

If Karlsson would not make our team better i would eat my scarf lika a spaghetti. "But he dont play defence" He is so good at offence , so it is up to the other D and forwards to cover up when he gets in on offence. Like in any team when the D gets deep down in the offensive zone.

I also steps up in playoffs. He would be a great player here.

People always bring this up and it doesn't make sense. Where are you putting Talbot? Is he just magically going to not count towards the cap or roster space?

When the Leafs added a 3rd stringer years ago from Calgary (the name escapes me) they had a taxi squad and it made sense since their goaltending was not as good as it is now.

They added Rittich because Andersen was broken and they needed insurance (partially if Andersen sucked, but mostly if he wasn't healthy; he wasn't at the time and wasn't expected back for most of the regular season). We didn't have a Marlie really capable of being that extra goalie at the time.

I would trust Woll to be our #3 more than most of the goalies we can acquire right now, and with Murray healthy soon, we will already have a deep crop of goalies.

Why? Brodie comes off the books then and the cap goes up a projected 4M. Matthews/Nylander shouldn't get more than a 2M raise each.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch... that was an old cap projection, before the Bally issue. Cap could actually go down.

Mccabe replaces sandin
Lafferty replaces engvall

Mccabe big improvement over sandin. Legit top 4 dman with some bite

Lafferty equal to speed and scoring as engvall
But with way more grit.

Both trades improved our best needs grit without losing any effectiveness

I agree I would rather have size. But a guy at the high skill playing in our top 6 is a surefire 60 point player locked into 2.4 for 4 more seasons. I would gladly take a guy with size if we could get a cheap deal or a team to retain.
That’s my take.
If it’s a soft deal at 40-50% retained, I can definitely see the allure.
But not including a first.

That sucks. I’m just wondering what’s next lol because we all know there’s literally 0% chance Dubas keeps that 1st rounder. He’s gone this far might as well dig deeper lol

I see this pov for sure given the past couple of days.
The flip side is that the 23 and 24 first also give the team more bullets in the off-season and next TDL than much of their comp. Next year is looking like another good one to go all in. At this point anyway.
