Go get Wade Allison now. Very similar to Jeannot except he hits ~80% as much as Jeannot. Near identical shots/60 rates at ES and near identical first assists/60. Allison has a positive defensive GAR (0.2), Jeannot has a negative (-1.3).
I 100% agree with this idea. Hes also only 25 I believe as well. He would probably cost a 3rd + and give us similar results to Jeannot.

We really do not need to add a bottom 6 forward to match what Tampa just sold the future for. Integrate Knies and McMann into the bottom 6 by playoff time. Decent to good chance both are better players then Jeannot right now and both can play
Is Knies a good enough skater to make an impact this year?

Tampa paid the price of a dream to recreate coleman, gourde goodrow line with jeannot paul and colton

The problem if its its doesn't work and this season jeannot is the real one... he will be at best a kind of pat maroon replacement and:

Tampa only had a 6th and 7th picl remaining
Only a 3rd pick in 1st 96 pick next 2 season
And dont have a 1st pick until 2026

With one of worst prospect pool...

Probably .. but I think it's a lot to ask both he and McMann step into an NHL playoff series against Tampa and make an impact.
That’s my thinking. I’m sure they’re not counting on them but might give them a chance. Boy you’d hate to see them make a critical mistake.

That Jeannot return coupled with the insiders talking about big interest in Acciari makes me wonder how much of the return for St Louis was for him.

Seems like he was worth at least a 2nd after seeing how the market played out

TSN must love this, might be more in this one transaction than on TDD.

I mean rookies have and will have impacts in playoff series and cup runs in the past. It's not like they would be asked to play on the top line and run a powerplay. Be energetic hit everything that moves and hopefully chip in the odd goal. I fail to see how that is asking to much. I would at the very least prefer one of the two over a "veteran" like Kerfoot who has already proven he will fold in the playoffs.

Big payment but Cup contenders don't care about picks, especially futures that can be recouped by moving other assets. I like Jeannot, he'll be a pain in the Leafs side in the 1st round but he's being a tad overhyped by some, like he's some wrecking ball that will be injuring every guy he hits. Absurd. Also, he's got 5 goals this year because he's shooting at a 5% clip. His almost 20% clip last year was unsustainable but he's somewhere in between.

My delusional self would still love to see KD make a move for Ekholm and a guy like Trenin. 2024 1st, Niemela, another mid to lower prospect and Kerfoot to even out the money a bit? What a dream scenario that would be

From what I have seen his skating in a straight line is strong. I don't think he will be ready to be thrust into an offensive role but I see no reason why he can't be inserted into a bottom 6 role told to go hit everything that moves and if he chips in a goal here or there then that is a bonus. Because I would rather try out an energetic rookie with a bit of jam then sit them for the "veteran" in Kerfoot who we already know doesn't have it when the going gets tough.

Any possibililty that the Leafs (or Bruins) were involved in the Jeannot bidding and drove up the price? If the Lightning identified Jeannot as a playoff difference maker (and I think the price they paid says they do), they may have overpaid to keep Toronto (or Boston) from getting him.

That was one of my first thoughts after wtf, TSN has really messed up this trade report.

Yes, the best 2 picks are a couple drafts away but how many teams were they bidding against?

What would it take for Vancouver to bring Kerfoot home?

A move where the Leafs upgrade their roster and need his space for that upgrade, whether that’s the same or a separate transaction.

I like your optimism and I like both players. But McMann hasn’t scored a single NHL point yet. It seems to be a stretch.

I mean I want him to take Kerfoots spot. It isn't like Kerfoot is filling the net while also bringing zero physicality and we know he doesn't have it in when it gets tough. Also small samples. He played 8 games.

You've got the right plan. Many of yall. Mcbain (pain) and deslauriels is the correctamundo mandalorian way to go.

Again looking for guys who are physical, not good hockey players necessarily. McBain I feel bad for. He should have more potential than a 4th line physical guy, but that’s how he’s being used on a bad Arizona team, when I feel like he should be in the AHL reaching his potential. But, that’s why he’s in Arizona… because they promised him NHL time….

When the going gets tough? Like his 6 points in 7 games two years ago in the playoffs? McMann is not currently anywhere near close to replacing Kerfoot. That’s ludicrous.

Oh I agree rookies can make an impact .. I just don't know about having both in the line up in the bottom 6. One would make sense. With Tampa's heavy bottom 6, having proper vet experience is important.

Depends on the set up though. I like McMann a lot, and think he was snake bit in his time here earlier. He had a high motor, good speed, and was tenacious with some size. To me, he has that "it" factor when it comes to making that extra bit of effort to win the battle or make a play.

If ROR moves down to the third line I love the idea of McMann with him:

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Jarnkrok-Tavares-Marner
McMann-ROR-xxxxxx
xxxxx-Kampf-Acciari

Knies is just a bit unproven but I'm open to the idea of giving him a bottom 6 role to an extent. The biggest thing against Tampa is being able to roll 4 solid lines that you don't need to shelter or worry about being caught in a defensive zone face-off against Tampa's top guys.

Is Kerfoot playing like he did 2 years ago? He has 7 goals this year and took a brutal penalty that cost us late in the series last year. He could be punted to the moon for all I care.
