I think mintens season is a bit of an outlier they are teabagging their division in the WHL

Also means we shouldn't panic when he has a bit of a regression next year due to him not playing with a bunch of killers

Also there isn't really much value in Schenn. In fact between him and Benn, the quality is about the same and you aren't spending a 3rd for Benn since he's already here assuming he clears waivers.
If you aren't going higher in Jensen or whoever else, just stick with what we have which is fine anyways.

I don't know if the Habs are going to be good but holy shit are they setting their young core to be absolutely massive.

Besides caulfield and Suzuki they are huge

My main issue with relying on Holl is that is outlets are just not good enough, especially when he's pressured by a good forechecking team (like Tampa). With the type of team we have - forwards who are very good at entering the zone - that first pass is so critical to playing to our strengths.

If Dubas replaces Holl for Schenn, he should be getting a ton of criticism his way, but I doubt it happens.
Jensen would be ideal. You add another guy who can eat up tough mins, and can take Holl's place if he struggles or at least take some of the burden off Holl.
This way you have Brodie, Holl, Gio, Jensen, Liljegren, and maybe Rielly who can take on tough minutes.
You could even stick Jensen on the top pair if you want. Lots of options.
Yeah, I agree. Jensen is my guy for a lot of reasons; 7 legit NHL D, Timmins 8.
In the playoffs, Holl and Sandin can split a spot, Sandin at home, Holl on the road.

I don't get this one for Dallas. What a weird trade for them... I don't get it.

Wonder who the prospect is they traded. Vegas seems to trade prospects and picks all the time to stay competitive. At some point the bubble will burst and the team will be middle of pack and dropping with no prospects on the way to help.

The funny thing is that they are still in on Meier. They have no prospects and very little cap space. They do have picks to give up though.

Even if true, how's Tampa's cap situation vastly different to the Leafs? Neither team wants to be stuck with a declining asset with a 6.75 million dollar cap hit. Why do the Leafs pay for the privilege of adding him?

Only if we got 50% retention from the Preds. That would be a different ballgame not available to the Lightning.

Teams aren't likely to retain 3.375 million over this year + 3 more years if they have hopes of being competitive in that time period. It would take a huge cost to convince them to do that

I'm subscribed to this.

I want to see previous seasons. My point was that that Gavrikov has a history of being a top 4 d-man. Schenn has always been a journey man, because his impacts have always been average to sub par.

Have you read Cam Charron's article on Schenn?

If you look at TOI, perhaps Gavrikov is being overplayed this year because their best defenseman has been out most of the year. Werenski would be taking the most minutes, not Gudbranson?

I get bored of the lack of real rumors during the run up to the deadline, so I decided to screw with my brother this morning.

I texted him, knowing he is on the road and has no data on his phone and can’t verify, and told him the NHL announced this morning that due to the whole Bally Sports situation the league had cancelled the remainder of the season. Took some convincing that I was telling the truth, but I got there.

He messages our Dad freaking about what will happen with the tickets we have and getting our money back, and my dads just like “what the hell are you talking about”

He phoned me back pretty annoyed lol

I hope you enjoyed this brief trade deadline intermission

I hope Vegas gets Meir. Vegas keeps things interesting in the NHL with all there trades

What’s going on with the Bally Sports situation?

Honestly, I don’t know where it’s actually at. I know it sounded as though a bunch of teams will lose their regional coverage and the money that goes with that would not be paid to the NHL. There was some talk that MLB and NHL were standing up streaming for regional games, but I haven’t looked at it at all since the original story broke that the NHL BOG had an emergency meeting on the bankruptcy

Possibly, but like I said, I'd be interested in McDonagh on a discount from what he's being paid. If it doesn't line up, it doesn't line up. But he's still a workhorse, has the pedigree and would be a real asset at a certain price point.

I'm actually curious how many teams fall into the Bally umbrella and how many of them are Western Conference teams? Might be really weird for the competitive balance if the West goes into a pure rebuild mode and creates a have and have nots situation. You almost need a luxury tax system for the healthier clubs to absorb that salary that these broke teams can't afford anymore.

Or we could just let those teams go out of business like it should be.

Yeah it’s a bit of a mess for sure. Which played well into my hands as it made the concept of games being shutdown at least somewhat believable lol. Like a shred anyway.

I wonder if this situation could affect the future salary cap in any way?

Basically every advanced metric available is significantly worse? Pretty good sign right there

Don't care, he could be playing 50 minutes a game but if he isn't good he's not making your team better, he's making it worse

Muzzin is broken, McDonagh is playing like he's almost there himself
I'd have thought Muzzin would be a good example of what happens to guys who have a lot of tough miles on them when they start aging

Tha5s why you shouldn't trade for them, you should avoid them

Jake Muzzin doesn't actually have that much mileage on him. He's got 683 GP in the regular season and 72 GP in the playoffs. Just had the unfortunate, massive injuries that seem to have derailed his career in combination of his rugged play. He has fewer regular season games played than Morgan Rielly.

McDonagh has 832 GP in the regular season and a massive 185 GP in the post season, which is quite a bit of mileage but when you're in the business of getting playoff experience, you're not likely to get that in a young man who has low mileage.

McDonagh's metrics aren't going to stay the same moving from a team that almost won 3 Cups to a bottom 10 team. He's still logging massive minutes and really wouldn't be too different than when Toronto old Gio last winter. Except McDonagh has the real deal playoff track record.
