The physicality of Schenn, would make it more punishing to play us.

The addition of Schenn in the lineup, would make us easier to beat, if he's replacing Holl or Sandin in the lineup. He's a nice depth option, in case of injuries, that brings physicality and has the experience that Timmins doesn't. He's a marginal upgrade over Benn, but really, not much more than that. We'd have to Benn on waivers, and he'd likely be claimed. Their ask seems to be a 2nd, or low 1st... and honestly, if it's a 5th, or 6th... I'm ok with adding depth, but we'd lose some depth at the same time, while costing us picks.

2 first rounders can also mean players equivalent to 1sts.

Sandin, Robertson, 3rd/prospect
for
Ekholm @ 50% - 3,125,000 (3yrs remaining)

Rielly Lily
Ekholm Brodie
Giordano Holl
Love it for the leafs but there’s little chance their accepting that deal for Ekholm without Knies imo.

I’m in agreement with that article above though about the need for a top 3-4 D surpassing all other needs. I would take an Ekholm type D over Patrick Kane at this point. It’s such a critical position to fill.

The reason I am interested in Parayko /Jensen is we may be able to get one of them without Knies involved if the Blues want out of the contract. But even for those guys the ask might be high but I would be shocked if we landed a big ticket D-man like Ekholm without Knies involved.

Is having Schenn as a rental worth losing years of Sandin?
Cause I’m pretty sure he asks for a trade in the off season if we sit him in the playoffs again. He was already pretty hard to sign last summer because of doing that.

Though it would be funny to see people make trade proposals to get Sandin back for years cause some Leaf fans have an obsession with former players
I'd prefer they sit Holl, like many of us would. I just don't think they have much interest in doing that. At the same time Schenn would bring a dynamic to the blueline it currently lacks. I think he should still be a player of interest, no matter who ends up sitting for game #1 (Holl, Sandin or Schenn himself). Timmins is inexperienced and isn't really in a position to complain about being blocked by another defender.

We still need a defensive upgrade. Our defense gets wrecked by hard forecheck

Hoping for Mayfield, McCabe, Soucy type
Agree with all three. Soucy would be my ideal, but Seattle is heading to the play-offs so that would be an interesting deal.

Slavin's been traded to the Ducks!!! (But not that Slavin)

Friedman was on Tim. and friends yesterday and said the Leafs doesn't look like they are in on Luke Schenn. Out of their price range or something.

Where did this new info come from that says we're one of the two teams in on Schenn?

I don’t think it exists. By all accounts it’s PIT/BOS in on Schenn. If Boston finishes the deal for Gavrikov, Schenn probably goes to PIT.

By the sounds of it anyway.

Like the concept don't like the pairings

Ekholm Liljegren
Reilly Brodie
Giordano Holl

Giordano Timmins

Honestly it’s weird. I’ve become much more open to trading Sandin to get a more immediate upgrade if the player is right.

Chychrun makes a lot of sense. As does Ekholm (ideally with like 1M retained).

Not sure who else

I like all the players individually but where are the 1-2 pricks to play against back there? It's too easy.

Thank you, you have summed up my thoughts very succinctly.
He will punish forwards in our end, who are there because Schenn can't skate the puck out or make a crisp first pass hitting an outlet.
It's like Joel Quenville once said, I don't mind my team getting outhit, it means we have the puck and are winning.

We're always one of the two teams in on everybody.

Glad we're not going after Schenn.

I'm hoping with Barzal gone the Islanders start tanking, and Scott Mayfield becomes available. He is who I want over Schenn.
I wonder if Islander start tanking, could we try and get Brock Nelson with Scott Mayfield. An offer of Sandin, Hirvonen, 2024 1st, 2023 3rd for Brock Nelson at 50% retained, Scott Mayfield.

I'm just spitballing here, but if Islanders start to tank. Maybe we can convince old man Lou to help a brother out.

Yeah it doesn't make sense. Having Schenn in the lineup over Sandin would really limit the offensive creativity and awareness of the blue line.

If we're going to bump or trade Sandin (which I highly oppose), then it has to be for someone who can bring as much offense as him

I see a fit with Chychrun+Vejemlka for a combination of Sandin, Knies, Murray+. I do question if Vejmelka is actually good though.
Knies should not be traded....for anyone. We've been looking for player like him forever. I dont get people wanting him gone....

Tom Wilson is also back on the ice. With only 1 more year to go after this one...Wash might be willing to retain.
