The Leafs aren’t going to move Timmins nor should they. The defensive side of his game definitely needs some work but the offensive side is way above average. He’s big, can throw his weight around, etc. And he just signed a two year extension at a very good price. Let’s not forget he’s missed so much time due to injuries also so he’s still got plenty of room for development and will only get better.

I am genuinely curious about soucy and what the cost would be but i also feel like they have no reason to sell unless we overpay fo him?
Sounds like they want a player (likely LD) back and not picks/prospects. The only player it really makes sense from us is Sandin. Problem with that is Sandin is a significantly more valuable asset than Soucy and probably a better player right now.

I agree with the idea of changing up the mix on D, too many puck movers abd not enough snarl but it's hard to find the right fit.

Would Seattle do Soucy + (high pick or top prospect) for Sandin? Would Dubas move out Sandin in a lateral move just to change up the mix on the back end? I see the logic for both sides but I'm not sure either would pull the trigger

The only name out there I've heard that really makes sense to move Sandin out for is Ekholm (clear upgrade while also changing up the mix) and I don't know how you make the cap work to bring in Ekholm so probably a no go.

Instead of piddling around trying to figure out what middling dman we could get and who he could displace in our lineup, why not go big or go home….. Chychrun my friends, Chychrun!

Chychrun would definitely be an upgrade but his price tag is outrageous aka why he’s been on the market for 2+ years…

Someone mentioned Hanifin yesterday. I’m not about to compare Hanifin to Lindholm but honestly I could see Hanifin having a similar positive impact on our team as Lindholm has had with Boston.

Hanifin’s elite skating ability, high IQ and ability to play on both special teams I think would really excel on a team and system like ours.

Sandin + Kerfoot + prospect for Hanifin.

Hanifin - Brodie
Rielly - Liljegren
Giordano - Holl
Timmins

Bunting Matthews Nylander
Tavares OReilly Marner
Domi Lafferty Jarnkrok
Dickinson Acciari Kampf

IN
Domi (50%) 1.5m
Dickinson (50%) 1,325,000
Lafferty 1,150,000
$3,975,000

OUT
Kerfoot 3,500,000
Engvall 2,250,000
Robertson/picks
$5,750,000

haha i love when i call something out the opposite happens...... LOL.

Here's my logic though.

1) JT and ROR play at a slower pace than mitch and theyre not great at stickhandling and sometimes turn the puck over off mitch's creativity which creates transition rushes against, and none have the speed to get back

2) I feel mitch's creativity is a bit neutered with the two.

3) I see mitch the first one back on defense which I feel takes away the point of having 1 solid defensive C in JT and one elite defensive C in ROR.

4) I think the matchups willy and ror would have as a third line, they'd absolutely feast.

5) I also think matty should carry his own line to give opposition matchup problems with a combo of JT and mitch and willy and ror on lines 2 and 3.

Maybe I'mm off? just wondering out loud.

FORGET I SAID ANYTHING

You’re way off bud.:naughty:

I like Kerfoot on line 4.

I wish we had a power forward for every line though
I do as well, but the money doesn't work out for him as a 4th line player. And if it means his money has to go out to allow an upgrade I think we have to do it. TBH, The chemistry that Acciari and ZAR have developed so far is excellent. They Are absolute dogs on the puck. Acciari has been arguably as good of an addition as ROR, maybe even better considering the woes of our 4th line all year. Of course Kerf is a huge part of that line as well, but I actually think even a guy like Bobby McMann could be equally as effective in that role. We're not exactly asking kerf to lug the mail for that line. We are asking him to play a speedy north south game and get pucks in behind their D-men. Kerf's playmaking and finish are nothing special, if anything they've been a bit below average all year. Kerf has an underatedly good stick in the defensive zone, and it allows him to disrupt plays more then your average player. That would be missed for sure if he left. Of course if money were no object, Kerf is a lock on that line. He's looked great. Unfortunately the modern NHL is a numbers game and I just don't know if it's the best allocation of resources at this point.

My ideal deadline would be:

To Van:
Nick Abruzzese
Dmitry Ovchinikov

To Toronto
Luke Schenn

To Chicago
Justin Holl
Alex Kerfoot
Nick Robertson

To Toronto
Patrick Kane @ 50%

Of course the 2nd deal is only possible if Kane makes it clear that we are the only place he would accept a trade, and Chicago is doing right by a player who has done more for their franchise then anyone before. I honestly don't know what the framework for that deal would look like, all I know is that the money going the other way would be Kerf and Holl. If it means we have to add a pick or 2 to make it happen so be it. But again, my value on that deal is based on an idea that Kane is telling Chicago that he will only accept a trade to Toronto. Which I admit is wishful thinking. Hopefully I made my stance clear on that.

Lines I would like to see:

Kane - Matthews - Nylander
Tavares - O'Rielly - Marner
Engvall - Kampf - Jarnkrok
Bunting - Acciari - ZAR
Knies/McMann

Rielly - Brodie
Gio - Lilly
Sandy - Schenn
Timmins/Benn

Murray/ Sammy

I’m hoping the Leafs can get Hartman or a retained Vatrano.

Vatrano seems like a more realistic options and someone Dubas was rumoured to have interest in in the past. I wonder what a retained Vatrano would cost?

What if we just had three 1st lines?

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Jarnkrok-Tavares-Marner
Engvall-O’Reilly-Kane
Knies-Kampf-Acciari

Best forward group in the league by far.

Wonder if Dubas was waiting for the official announcement on Muzzin, before pulling the trigger on another move?

I would assume he would know the status without needing an announcement.
I know that, but maybe he was waiting for it to be officially announced before making his move?

Once it’s been announced, then it doesn’t look so bad to go ahead with using his cap space?

Ya'll going to hate me for this...but now is the time to bring back JVR. Having a great season on a bad team and shouldn't be as expensive as other rentals.

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Jarnkrok-Tavares-Marner
JVR-ROR-Engvall
ZAR-Accari-Knies
At this point I wouldn't doubt that JVR's attrocious defensive game could cancel out the amazing defensive game O'Reilly brings.

Could be but personally I don't think he would care. He wouldn't pass up on a deal just to wait for an announcement, he could end up missing out entirely.

This is going to shock everyone, but JVR's defensive numbers have actually been stellar this year.

That's not to say he's a great defensive player, but his results have been solid.
