You don't trade one of your better defensive forwards who can win faceoffs, that's useful come playoff time and Kerfoot is a better offensive player than Pulj

I'd rather give Kerfoot away for free and get the cap space than trade him for Pulj
Derek Ryan isn't a bad defensive player and is a better faceoff man. Put Pulj on this team and he probably puts up better numbers than Kerfoot does. Pay the guy 3.5 million a year and he's had 1 season in his 4 here where he has scored more than 10 goals and it was last season when he scored 13. He was almost a 20 goal guy when he was in Colorado for his only 2 seasons there. Obviously under Keefe he doesn't provide what we needed from him and that was depth scoring. I'd rather take Pulj from that dumpster fire of an org and see what he can do here and still get a pick out of it since we're lacking those.

I think that’s wishful thinking. O’Rielly probably still gets north of 5. His offensive is down, but his team was bad and his underlying metrics were still strong. He’s also been top 5 for the Selke the past 4 years
His offense was very down and I get that his line mates factor into that but you can't pay him based off past production. His underlying numbers are actually bad. The Athletic has him at 0.6 GSVA which is 44th percentile. EvolvingHockey has him at a negative WAR this season. There's a lot of smoke about him wanting to stay and willing to take a reasonable deal. 3Mx4 seems like a fair contract that will take him to 36.

I could see him at 3.5 to 4 because I think it's about fit, winning, and term at his age. I could be wrong but if Toronto goes far in the playoff, this theory could be believable.

Basically I'd see him getting somewhere in the 3-4.5 mil range depending on term (2-4 years).

He particularly strikes me as a guy who'd play ball on a contract if he was liked the location+ had a competitive team

2 yrs 4M per is what I have been using in projections

On another note, Insider Trading says Orlov could be available.

Orlov-Brodie shut down pairing

I'd probably go

Rielly - Brodie
Orlov - Liljegren
Giordano - Holl/Timmins.

I think it's wishful thinking, for ROR at that price/length.....he's 5 months younger than Tavares, and 7 months older than Jarnkrok.

Players just don't do short, low-priced retirement contracts at 31 when they are still elite.

Luke Schenn is having his best offensive season in his career so far too. He's having a really good overall season and would be a great add in the 3rd pairing for the battle to come in the playoffs.

I think a Kerfoot + Prospects for Luke Schenn and Conor Garland deal makes a lot of sense.

Kerfoot goes home as well

Schenn is getting caved in 3rd pair minutes. No thank you. He doesn't play over anybody other than Benn in our top 8.

Schenn is having one of his best season but why would he improve our D. He is a defensive Dmen on one of the worst defensive team in the league.

Because he'd be playing significantly less minutes with inferior linemates, and the Leafs wouldn't get the impact they need.

They still upgraded their #3C with Acciari. Kampf at #4.

And I don't think this is set in stone, but it will be given some run time. They can always put him back at #3C later on if this doesn't work.
haha i love when i call something out the opposite happens...... LOL.

Here's my logic though.

1) JT and ROR play at a slower pace than mitch and theyre not great at stickhandling and sometimes turn the puck over off mitch's creativity which creates transition rushes against, and none have the speed to get back

2) I feel mitch's creativity is a bit neutered with the two.

3) I see mitch the first one back on defense which I feel takes away the point of having 1 solid defensive C in JT and one elite defensive C in ROR.

4) I think the matchups willy and ror would have as a third line, they'd absolutely feast.

5) I also think matty should carry his own line to give opposition matchup problems with a combo of JT and mitch and willy and ror on lines 2 and 3.

Maybe I'mm off? just wondering out loud.

FORGET I SAID ANYTHING

You realize Pulj has had an opportunity to play with McDavid and Drai, if he can't score with them I'm supposed to believe he will with our guys?

Kerfoot scored 50 points doing that
That's Pilj's wet dream result

That team is also going to the playoffs so not exactly a dumpster fire

Kampf is one of our best defensive forwards, Ryan is going to be doing bloody well to do better than him

Hahahaha! Just saw this.

It's only half a period, but it looks like they are doing the Harlem Globetrotters thing out there.

Keep it up boys!!!

People just look and love him because of how many hits he dishes out but they don’t realize he is able to throw so many hits because when he is on the ice his team never has the puck.

Well if ROR keeps scoring like this we will have no chance at an extension
The only chance we have to sign him is if he decides he wants to be in Toronto and takes less to make it happen. That was the same before that great period as it is after.

Ryan is 36. He’s declining. He isn’t as good at faceoffs this year as Kampf, he isn’t putting up the same points and isn’t as good defensively. Ryan in the past, I can see that argument. Now. No.

Pulj couldn’t put up points playing with McDavid and Drai… but somehow will here!!! It’s not like he’s playing on an offensively challenged team, he just doesn’t put up points. As a future UFA at minimum, happy to take a chance on him. Otherwise pass

Absolutely no doubt left in my mind that Kerfoot has to go by the TDL.

No question it is better for us, but I'm starting to think it's better for him too.

He's never been a player that I've particularly liked, but he's just completely off right now. He looks like his confidence is shot and he's overthinking everything.

While not a player I ever really liked, I respect the effort and durability he brings every game. I think the writing is on the wall here, with Acciari making it more painfully obvious all the things that Kerfoot isn't vs all the things we need, and costing $3.5m in the process.

What's the point of an army knife that doesn't fit in any of your pockets?

The guy will still have some value somewhere, but he needs to move on and we need to bring in McMann or Holmberg to put on that 4RW with ZAR and Acciari. That line will bring a lot every game.

Absolutely do not want to see Kerfoot here past the deadline and then walk as a UFA. It would be poor asset management for a player that won't factor into any playoff success we have.

He's been pretty good to me, just not scoring on his chances. Those kind of players explode with a little more luck or whatever, and they get hot. Kerfoots the kind of player that can put up a bunch of points at the perfect time.

Not saying he shouldn't be replaced or his money used for an upgrade but I would 100% not basically remove him at all cost. There has to be someone better or equally as effective.

I get that it's frustrating to see him miss golden chances but there's a reason those chances happen.

I don’t care about the asset management angle. If they think he can help somewhere, I’m keeping him. Either you upgrade him, or keep him

As for the options you mentioned. Holmberg maybe, McMann absolutely not. Not in the playoffs
