Trying to think outside the box here.

There has been some chatter in Vancouver about Conor Garland as a possible buyout candidate. He's making $4.95 million AAV for 3 more seasons.

How about a deal like Garland ($1.95 million retained) and Schenn for Kerfoot, Joey Anderson, and B prospect (Kral)?

Garland will add firepower to the lineup and could be a Bunting/Kerfoot replacement next season for $3 million AAV, and Schenn can slot in and out of the lineup as required.

Vancouver gets Kerfoot - who they can flip out for a pick, and 2 lottery tickets for a player that was going to cost them twice as much to buy out, and a pending UFA. It also frees up more roster spots and cap space for the Leafs.

Kerfoot and Kampf for Pulj and Ryan makes us better? Shakes head.
Complain every year about depth scoring and then when Ryan would help that he's not an upgrade on Kampf now? Pulj you're just hoping for him to play up to his potential in a system and line that would probably let him be one of the main puck handlers, but that's why I'd make Edmonton throw in a pick just in case he doesn't. But yeah, lets keep doing the same stuff and keep expecting different results come playoff time. Shakes head.

I don't love Garland but I would take him over Kerfoot anyday and Schenn has done good stuff the last few seasons being a 3rd pair guy on good teams when paired with an offensive minded player.

You don't trade one of your better defensive forwards who can win faceoffs, that's useful come playoff time and Kerfoot is a better offensive player than Pulj

I'd rather give Kerfoot away for free and get the cap space than trade him for Pulj

Kampf has more points than Ryan this year.
Kerfoot has been far better than Pulj. Pulj is an expensive reclamation project that we aren’t in a position to take chances on.

Would trading for Tyler Toffoli be a good add for the leafs if the flames decide to sell?

2024 1st
Fraser Minten/Roni Hirvonen/Ty Voit (whichever one the flames prefer)

For Tyler Toffoli@50% retained.

We'd get him for a little over 2M for 2 playoff runs

Petry @ 5mil per year
Or
Ekholm @ 5mil per year

Wouldn’t mind either. Both bring a different aspect to our D, both would be an upgrade.

If you are really interested in that kind of money, you check with Calgary and see how motivated they are to move Weegar.

I just don’t see how you add $5M defence when you have Big 3 and now ROR to re-sign.

I also think re-signing Acciari should also be a priority as he brings a lot of what we need, and we paid a premium to get both. It would be stupid to lose them in UFA…..

Toffoli could definitely add some scoring. Not sure how he is defensively.

Unless we're going for a big swing on a top defensemen like Josi I really don't see the need to move Sandin for a guy like Ekholm.

I like Ekholm but no way some of these middle pair D are worth some of these packages.
Who on our team is better than Ekholm (At defense) and brings his element? He’s not rumoured to be available but I’m just throwing it out there. Same with Mcdonagh. Hell if we could get one of them with just picks and keep sandin I’m all for it.

Josi I wish lol
Nashville is where they are because they can’t score, not because they can’t defend.

I actually have Rielly a bit better than Ekholm if I’m listing them overall, but Ekholm will make a bigger impact for us that Rielly does.
Completely agree. Rielly is a stud but on our first Pp he literally just drops the puck because we have so many offensive stars. Need a muzzin replacement. Muzzin was our most important D for a while before injuries

Not sure how he is defensively, but the idea would be for him to be the big goal scoring finisher we have missed in the top 6, he'd be converting chances created by 2 of the big 4. Would allow us to have an offensive 2nd line and check 2nd line if we wanted

Could go TT + JT + 1 of WN/MM for the offensive line

and then have Jarnkrok - RoR - Kerfoot for checking 2nd line

Bunting + Matthews + 1 of WN/MM for line 1 duties

Engvall + Kampf + Acciari 4th line

Extremely deep team, to the point that Knies isn't slated in the bottom 6

Wouldn’t pay close to that for toffoli , over rated. Maybe roni and a second or third

Retirement contract 4 year 4.5 per

I mean Kerfoot and Murray out the door at $8M if we don’t extend Holl and that’s another $2m isn’t it? So enough for both, in theory, and you’d also have to let Kampf walk and replace him on 4C with either Acciarri (who will need a reasonable extension) or Holmberg (who’s ELC). Tight but not unmanageable ?

I don't think this is outside the box. The Athletic did an article on Schenn/Garland retained to the Leafs 2 weeks ago: Let's make a deal: Can the Maple Leaf and Canucks connect on a Conor Garland trade?

how much do you see ROR re-signing for.
