Talk about getting things done in the nick of time while seeing your opponents getting left with table scraps.
I think there’s a possibility that that Meier might not really be injured but they want to avoid sating “trade-related reasons.” But as usual, I could be wrong.

Will be interesting to see what other player Toronto tries to add, I don't think they needed to pay Minny the 4th round pick to retain salary for ROR, but did to be able to add another player.

Definitely not out of the realm of possibility.

It does beg the question if he is 100% healthy though....

I got a gut feeling Leafs are in stealth mode on Chychrun. Leafs still have the cap space available and Knies and the 2024 1st rounder.

A week ago, the NHL trade market was abuzz with rumors that the Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun would be traded to the Los Angeles Kings. Well, despite being a healthy scratch for ‘trade related reasons’ in the Coyotes’ last three games, Chychrun still hadn’t been traded Saturday morning, and while the Boston Bruins were still a long shot to acquire the 24-year-old rearguard, a trusted NHL source recently told Boston Hockey Now, they were still ‘keeping tabs’ on Chychrun trade talks.

According to that same source, NHL trade chatter amongst pro scouts and management had the Coyotes asking for either Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk or goalie Jeremy Swayman, a 2023 first round pick, 2024 third round pick, and one of their top prospects in forward Fabian Lysell (Providence Bruins), or defenseman Mason Lohrei (Ohio State). The Bruins gave an emphatic no to DeBrusk and Swayman being involved in any trade not just for Chychrun but with any NHL team.

“I’m told for now, both guys are off limits in any trade talks when it comes to the Bruins,” the source told BHN recently.

I don’t think Samsonov makes 5 million on his next contract, the most I see is 4.5 but ideally something along the lines of 4 million per, 5 years.

Remaining things that need to be done are:

Find a replacement for Engvall --- either Buddy Robinson from Columbus or Sam Lafferty from Chicago
Upgrade that 2nd pair --- either Jake McCabe or Mattias Ekholm

Find some insurance in net -- Korpisalo?

I wonder what it'd take to get Ekholm or McDonaugh retained. McD was traded for negative value in the summer so a retention deal shouldn't be astronomical.
This is what I wanted earlier before orielly trade.

Probably my 2 top picks to add competitiveness to our D. If we added either one I’m on the Dubas train 😂

If true, that is just an insane ask and explains why he still hasn’t been traded.

Coyotes are really pushing. Are they really prepared to come away without a deal and just keep him?

I’m all for not making a deal just for the sake of it but if no one has been prepared to meet their price, does dawn on them that maybe they are just asking too much?

That’s a crazy ask in general. No team is giving up a top 6-9 player off their roster, plus another serviceable player, a 1st round pick and a top prospect

While I think the Leafs are definitely still interested in Chychrun and talking to Arizona, one has to think that since we've already gave up our 1st this year, any deal for Chychrun will either include a 1st in 2024 or Matthew Knies now.
Yeah, the 2024 1st and/or Knies would undoubtedly be involved. It will come down to what Dubas is willing to part with in order to make this Leafs team best prepared for a big time Cup run.

With Boston looking like their setting up for a Gavrikov trade, the potential suitors for Chychrun are thinning out. If Dubas feels that Chychrun is a serious needle-mover, then it wouldn’t surprise me to see him pull the trigger.

If he does trade for JC and it costs us one or two of those assets…. this forum is going to implode. Especially if we lose Knies!!

Chychun is under contract for a few years and that’s why I think Yotes can wait for an amazing offer.

I mentioned on another thread. Think Dubas is keeping options, if there is a bargain, he got room to go for it. If there is not a bargain, he might just sell this cap space as a 3rd team in a trade to get a 3rd or 4th round pick.

I think the easier play to make would be if they want more depth on forward is trading for Nyquist and just stashing him on LTIR till the playoffs. Seems like a move Toronto would make just like when they got Nash.

I think the Leafs may have a sneaky desire to add Mattias Ekholm. He's got the size and will have a bigger impact than a Gavrikov and maybe even Chychrun and you could potentially get him without dealing Knies.

Currently, the Leafs have no real cap space. The LTIR room shown on CapFriendly will disappear when Murray is reactivated.

The Leafs are likely going to need to move out cap space in any deal.

I'd be hesitant to offer five years when considering that he'll probably be in tough to set a career high in GP this season. Wouldn't mind an AAV of just under 4 as well (that might be wishful thinking on my part).

Still feel like there is a gaping hole on 2LW. Would much rather orielly play 3C than 2C. A winger that is an upgrade on Jarnkrok or Kerfoot and I feel like Dubas has prepped us for post season. Bertuzzi or someone would be nice, preferably someone with some jam.

No team is perfect.

But for now Tavares is #2LW.
