The NHL and the professional sports are big businesses. The days of these leagues resembling mom and pop stores were over a long time ago. Everyone looks out for themselves. The NHL has locked out the players three times and many people take the side of ownership. Its the greedy players and the fan would play for free. The players should take whatever the owners were offering them. It doesn't work that way.

Callahan and Girardi should look out for themselves. The Rangers need to look out for themselves. Its a business. Are Callahan and Girardi being disloyal for not taking the Rangers offers? Are the Rangers not being loyal? Its a business.

Vigneault said he discusses the roster with Rangers brass on a daily basis. Where are they now and where they need to go. That's a positive. The question is how do they get there? I have always been a big picture guy. Its not just about this season. Its about next season and the year after next. Where is management finding the pieces to make this a legitimate Cup contender? These pieces are found in the draft. The Rangers are good enough to be a playoff team because their goaltender is all world and the teams in the east stink. Even the West has bad hockey teams. The Canucks are entering the Olympic break out of a playoff spot and losers of 7 straight.

Where is management taking this team? The Rangers and Callahan are at an impasse. The Rangers have been hopeful about signing G for nearly 3 weeks. The Rangers can still talk to them during the break. They aren't taking less to stay in NY and they shouldn't.

Rangers don't owe Callahan anything. Callahan doesn't owe Rangers anything. He has every right to try and cash in big time and no one should blame him.

There are some guys in Columbus worth looking at not named Johansen. Matt Calvert, Cam Atkinson, Boone Jenner, Dalton Prout. There is their first rounder.

Jenner, Prout, Calvert and Atkinson are all younger guys. Jenner's been progressing nicely and has good size. Prout is a very tough right shot d-man. Calvert and Atkinson are both smaller type wingers but both have nice hands--both can finish. Calvert has some edge and is a good scrapper for his size.

I like Callahan. I would like that the Rangers and he could make a deal but it doesn't appear that that is going to happen. He's not a superstar. He's not worth Johansen. Maybe a couple years ago--not now. I don't think Johansen is going to be a superstar either. IMO he looks like maybe a very good 1st/2nd line tweener of a center in the future with good size.

I'd rather not turn Columbus into the 2011-2012 Rangers. The only pieces I'd want from Columbus are guys they probably wouldn't want to give up.

We better not trade Callahan to Columbus. If we do, I think we get to see Dubinsky, Anisimov, and Callahan back together on one line.

And we all know pretty well that line will kill us, every game we play.

PLEASE no Columbus trades.

The Rangers have a big decision to make on captain Ryan Callahan. They hoped to have the situation resolved before the Olympic break but it just wasn’t realistic. As reported, it’s believed he wants a seven-year deal worth $6.85 million per-season to remain in New York. On track for the playoffs, the Rangers have to decide if they can stomach trying to sign him during the off-season. If he does decide to go to free agency, there will be plenty of interest. The Blue Jackets, Sabres and Panthers are all expected to show interest ...

The Rangers will trade him.

SOS's group that he speaks of is real. At least in soccer it is. They are called transfer muppets. They spend most of their time discussing transfer rumors on the transfer board rather than talking about the actual team and its play as of late. It's an amusing part of the soccer culture.

There are definitely people like that in the hockey world. I don't think any of them are the people regularly posting in this thread. You would have no reason to be loyal to any one team if that was your poison. Those people live on the trade forum. Bernmeister is the closest thing we have and even then I am not 100% sure.

Hf boards is literally the online home base of transfer muppets. Sometimes it sparks great discussions, most times it frustrates other fans with shiny new toy nonsense

Shiny new toy is a myth perpetuated by people who don't have a better reason to justify why someone else might disagree with them regarding a team or player.

"I think we should trade player X, he's not a great fit here."

"Player x is awesome! You are just obsessed with shiny new toys!"

Not so sure about the bolded above

Disagree, where's the proof? Which posters are for sure these "transfer muppets?" Can you show me the posts where they come out and say this?

There are definitely people here who want to make trades for the sake of trades.

This is a bold claim to make without the proof to back it up. Name one poster on our board not named bernmeister who desires this. Then show me the posts where they either admit this, or even remotely hint at it.

With JD at the helm I doubt Sather can rip off the Blue Jackets in a trade involving Callahan.

I like Kerby Rychel as a prospect, too. But it would make me pretty queasy watching the Pack line reunited in Columbus.

Actually for some reason I thought JD and Callahan were around at the same time. JD left for the Blues before Callahan's rookie season. He probably knows less about Callahan than I first imagined.

if Callahan goes to the Jackets....

NHL players id consider in a trade:

Foligno
Calvert
Jenner
Atkinson
Wisniewski (doubtful but would add scoring from the defense)

prospects id consider in a trade:
Kerby Rychel
Oliver Bjorkstrand

that is all that interest me.. no need to put Murray because doubt they would move him, same with Johansen..

#‎Flames‬ Mike Cammalleri has submitted a list of 4 or 5 preferred trade destinations to Calgary brass and it's believed that the ‪#‎LAKings‬ could be at the top of that list!

i wonder if Rangers would be on the list???

Hopefully to the Panthers. :P
**** yeah! If he has to leave my hometown, I'd definitely want him here.

Fleishmann, Upshall, Matthias, Weaver…all of them would upgrade NYR a bit. ESP the underrated Mike Weaver, who actually gives a **** about his net.

Basically splitting Cally's service between Flash and Matthias. (F + M = C)

No. Please no.

An ideal situation is you have guys in the pipeline ready to step in so when guys like Callahan and Girardi are nearing their prime payday dates you move them along for players/prospects/picks who one day will be the replacements for the replacements. Rinse and repeat. For instance, if McIlrath were breaking down the door then moving Girardi would be much easier. Same with Kristo, Fast or Duclair, for Callahan. These trades could occur in the summer or at the deadline. Obviously not every acquisition is going to pan out but you have to keeping growing the assets pool. Of course some of the fan base is going to object for sentimental reasons but a strong organization absolutely does not take that into consideration, or they suck as an organization, like Carolina, who got nuked in the trade with Pittsburgh just because they wanted to sell their fans the heartwarming story of brothers playing together. People need to get away from the whole heart and soul thing and intangibles in general, because that's what the best organizations do.
