Had a dream the Rangers traded Callahan to Chicago for Brandon Pirri +. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I'd like pirri as part of a deal, but CHI is so close to the cap that they cant afford him without parting with roster players they'd probably prefer to keep

Very little from the Sharks that would interest me and also be realistically available for Callahan. Hertl? Keep dreaming.

SJ board thinks they meant Havlat not Hertl. I am inclined to agree with them.

I do not trade Callahan for Havlat or Dan Boyle.

I actually don't like Pirri and would look elsewhere. Chicago has given him plenty of chances, he hasn't run with them, and now he is out of options? Pass.

Yeah Dan Boyle is almost done, I don't think Sharks fans have been terribly happy with his play t his year

The more I think about it, the less I want a NHLer back at RW. Like I just pointed out, the Rangers have Kristo, Fast and Miller who can play RW. Leave that 3RW spot open.

Agreed, one of these guys will be a good NHL player. JT actually looked fantastic, IMO in his last stint, but with Cally coming back, it makes no sense having him go down to the 4th line (plus Carcillo has been good).

You can't keep those three in the AHL forever. JT should be up here now, it's good for him developmentally, but he looked like he belonged this year.

I'm not saying he'll instantly be a Callahan, but we have prospects who can fill that 3rd line role in the near future.

If we can get a good young player for Cally plus a pick or two, it is well worth it.

Agreed. Nieto and their 1st is the best I can imagine.

Not a snowball's chance in hell we'd give up Nieto alone for Callahan.

Personally, I have absolutely no interest in Callahan, but he seems like a DW player. However, the best you can hope for is basically what you gave up for Clowe last season: two 2nd rounders (and probably a cap dump because we can't afford Callahan as is). He would be a pure rental for us since there's no chance at all that he'd re-sign with us (nor would we give him the outlandish contract he's supposedly seeking).

I would take from San Jose:

Matthew Nieto + Matt Tennyson + Freddie Hamilton

Let me go find a barf-bag. Don't even mention Hertl. Jeez.

So both fan bases are at opposite extremes. Some Sharks fans want to give up damaged goods or straight up garbage, and some Rangers fans think they've got a shot at the kid who likely would have run away with the Calder this year had he not been injured. Sounds about right.

Rangers have needed either C or LW over RW in any trade all season long. I keep flip flopping on Stewart though. I am not sure that the Rangers could get better and he would basically be a linear replacement, but I would try to get a C or LW first.

And create some by losing Girardi. No thanks.

Isn't Hertyl's knee destroyed? Meh.

The kid is slightly over rated. Just like Steen, he had a ridiculously high and unsustainable shooting percentage for a while (I think he was well over 20% at one point). He is on his way back down to earth at 16%. Combine that with the knee injury and I do have serious concerns about Hertl.

Take away his 6 goals in 2 games to start the season and that leaves you with 9 goals in 33 games. Still impressive but not the superstar 50 goal scorer some make him out to be.

Callahan would most certainly fetch more than what Clowe did.

Theres no need at all to mess with our back 6. Its one of the best in the league and all of them (mainly, and most importantly, the top 4) are playing the best hockey of their careers.

So they got Clowe for a 2nd, 3rd, and a conditional 2nd from us. Now they're throwing spare parts at us for Callahan?

I don't see the point of a trading a rental for a rental. The team would still be at risk of letting a player walk away for nothing at year's end. They should be looking to trade for a player who will be under the team's control beyond this year and/or futures.

I'd be willing to wager Callahan's value is a liiiittle higher than Mr. 0 Goals Ryane Clowe.

I do agree that the two teams don't make good trading partners.
