Callahan to St. Louis for Chris Stewart and Tommy Vannelli

Cally wants two things.
A: The best contract he can get
B: To win a cup .

He hurts B if the team he signs for gives up assets. He hurts A by not letting it go to a full bidding war in July.

With these reported demands, he doesn't seem to want B at all. No team that is even close to a cup is going to pay him that. If it's too stupid for Sather, you can bet anything that it's too stupid for other, smarter, more competent GMs.

We'll see just how much depending on who he signs with. If he really goes to Buffalo, you're looking at a 3-5 year rebuilding plan. He makes them better today, but he's not the kind of player that accelerates a re-build. At least not totally on the ice. He'll be worn down by the time they're looking up.

Perhaps. Maybe he thinks he can be a big contributor at that time and gets to mentor a bunch of talented kids on his way there.

Trade Callahan as a rental, it doesn't matter. We know what Sather wants to give Callahan and what Callahan wants. He's not worth either.

$6.85M is absolutely ridiculous. In no universe should the Rangers sign him. Writing's on the wall here.

At this point, just get value for Callahan. Rental value or full value.

His demands are ridiculous, though warranted. His demands should scare off even the stupidest GM.

On Insider Trading, Darren Dreger and Bob McKenzie discussed Ryan Callahan:

Dreger, “He wants a lot of money. It’s been widely reported that Ryan Callahan wants a seven-year term around $6 million per, well that isn’t accurate and I am told that it is more than $6.5 million per on a seven-year term and less than $7 million. Whether it’s $6 or $7 million, it’s a lot of money and too much for the New York Rangers. There is not a lot of wiggle room in this negotiation and that is why Glen Sather is considering and working towards dealing his captain.â€

James Duthie asks if Callahan will get moved before the Friday deadline and Dreger says, “50-50 but that is an easy guess to make at this point. I would say that it’s more unlikely to get done because there is a willingness to move this as far as you can but the New York Rangers need to get as much in return as possible. The Chris Stewart deal with the St. Louis Blues is still there, Stewart would be part of it.â€

Dreger. NHL Network.

Callahan. North of $6.5m per. Nothing imminent on a trade. It can change at any moment.

Girardi. There is a chance G will re-sign this week. If its not done this week,G could find himself on the trade block

That isn't the first time we have heard Stewart + coming back in a deal. What else are they willing to give is the question.

Other teams have the same concern Sather has with the Olympic break. Give up assets and risk not having him for an extended period if he gets injured. This is going down to March 5th.

its sad.. thought the trade rumors we're more slats putting pressure on cally to get a fair deal for both sides due to cally wanting to be here.. the more and more reports come out about demands i dont blame slats from walking away from that..

i am in favor of this trade.. if its stewart, please beg borrow and steal and get one of berglund/schwarts (pipe dream)

wow.. cally don't give us that bs PR stunt that your heart is here.. your eyes are on the prize and your bank account.. later man
