5.5 is alot for a guy who hasnt played a full season in years due to injuries. I just think the NYR should trade him OR bring him back on a reasonable contract
That's not really true. Before this season he's only missed more than 6 games once in the previous 5 regular seasons.
He hasnt played a full season has he?
That's a lot of money for someone who has 243 career points
So after last night's fluke win everybody is on board to keep this core together. A big chunk of this team has to go. It starts with Callahan and his lack of leadership.
That's only half his game. Cally's a phenomenal defender and is a heart and soul guy. I would sign him 5 years $30 million. That's not a lot with the cap going up so much.

everyone always gets hurt, its hockey, not a sport for the weak.. but if we loose both those guys and what they bring, you minds well do a full rebuild and start moving out nash, hank, maybe even staal..
they are part of the solution not the problem, and for those people who say after a big win problems solved???
how bout we bring our A game every game and we'll see beter results.. this coaching staff sucks!! we have plenty of skill and talent to win games here, prob not cup worthy but can be a team that can be a thorn in a good teams ass and not make it so easy..
if richards was a true number 1c and playing the way he should we'd run ****.. get this team a number 1c and we'll be a solid squad
If I am Sather I would try Nash, MDZ and Skjei for Weber, Forsberg and Budish
I would try to resign Cally and Girardi but unless we are getting a home team discount or a 3 year term I would move on.
Anaheim would be my destination for Cally and Dan as they have many assets that the Rangers could use
Silverberg , Etem , Palmieri ,Vatanen, Pelly, Gibson and Andersen Just to name a few.
I would also ship Lundquist to Florida for a good package of picks and players
Pretty much none of those things can or will happen. lol
I appreciate and like Girardi and Callahan a lot. I want them to stay on the team... I'd just rather instead of say 8 years on one contract I'd prefer 8 years over 2-4 contracts smaller years... That's better for both team and player
Wasn't it just the other day that Brooks (or maybe it was someone else) said that the Rangers brass is extremely high on Franson?
That was Darren Dreger.
I know that I am alone on this, but I don't see term as a problem at all, only dollars.
The cap will go up greatly over the coming 8 years. On a regular basis. If we sign a player now to a 5.5m dollar deal, that contract will represent a portion to the cap that is equallent to 3.5-3.9m in 5-6 years and even less in Y 7-8.
You know, if a vet signs a 8 y contract now and still play decent hockey at the age of 36-37 (not that unusual at all), he is a steal and not a burden.
Franson can shoot and is a right D, I wouldn't be surprised if we gambled on him and took him on.
But there is no way we are as high on him as Dreger said. He is not a good NHL D. He has very little besides that shot, and even that isn't that special to be honest.

No you aren't alone in this. The league, which hasn't done it's fans a whole lot of good with two lockouts in less than a decade; has done a good job of generating more revenue.
You are 100% right in saying the cap is going to rise, and as that rises the cap hits become less and less significant in terms of how much of a percent out of the whole pie it takes.
I too want to see Cally and G re-signed. Many people may feel otherwise. But I do not see better alternatives.
The market is what it is, and it will always dictate the price players are payed, and now with the newest cba, term as well. Fans can feel whatever they like.
Under the last cap there would have been teams giving out 10-12 year deals to guys like Cally & G if they happened to be the only prime free agent on the market.
Gomez was a solo asset, traded for very few players. You're not going to see a trade that involves 3-4 roster players for 3-5 roster players.
Not to mention, no way a trade like that occurs midseason.
It was only a 2 roster player deal.
