I'm not really hoping for him to wake up one day and come to the realization that he's terrible at his job, more so that he'll wake up one day and just be fed up with the whole damn thing and step down out of frustration. Sigh. One can hope.

No accountability. Free reign. A healthy paycheck. Not a lot to get fed up about.

Girardi and our 1st in 2016 for Vyacheslav Voynov the stud from L.A.

how about Staal, Brassard and Brian Boyle to Canes for Ryan Murphy, Elias Lindholm, Brock McGinn and 1st in 2014???

Rangers get a young RH Dman something they need. a solid 2 way center and a LW prospect with grit..

Yet countless teams have managed just fine with several LHD on the right side of the ice. It's a nice to have, but not an absolute necessity. Many LHD actually prefer the right side.

I don't think that's it. I think the idea of a RHD with a cannon for a shot is what everyone wants. Think Byfuglien/Suter/Subban etc. Completely changes the look of a powerplay. PKers start cheating to that side to block it which opens up space for someone like Nash on the RW half boards for a one timer. And of course if they don't overload the left side you have a rocket of a shot to set up on a one timer

That's completely fair. However, you can find a guy who can do that while playing 2nd, or even 3rd pairing minutes. It doesn't have to be the Girardi replacement; especially when Girardi isn't a particularly effective shooting threat.

He might be a #2 in theory, but his minutes are those of a 1st pairing defenseman. And those minutes need to be filled. Are there really so many replacements out there who are both attainable and able to play major minutes?

He's a top minute guy, but he's not a #1 defender. That's all I was saying. Frankly, I think the fact that he's played most of his career with solid, mobile defenders like Tyutin, Staal and McDonagh has hidden a number of his flaws.

I don't know if there are replacements available who can step right into that role, but I have a hard time believing that we couldn't target a player in trade who might project to be that guy in a year or two.

That's an NHL 14 trade.

Value-wise:

Staal > Murphy
Lindholm>>>Brassard
McGinn>Boyle
1st>>>>Nothing

No shot.

Gardiner here in place of MDZ. See if both can rebound nicely under a change of scenery.

If we're getting back Kadri, I'd think we need to give up Brassard.

But then again... do we really want to bring in someone with the same problem that Brassard has - consistency.

Gardiner has a lot more value than Del Zotto, though. And Kadri isn't in the same league as Brassard.

I don't think Gardiner has shown as much as DZ in the NHL but the teams seem to covet him and I have to think, right now, his value is > Del Zotto's. Kadri might suffer from the same problem as Brassard but he's almost undoubtedly better and going to have a better career. If DZ + Brassard could land Gardiner + Kadri, you do it in a heartbeat. You add if you have to. That deal favors the Rangers. Even if Gardiner just plays as #6, he'll be better than Moore and Kadri is an upgrade to the forward group for sure.

I disagree on both points. Gardiner's career high was 30 points. He's also struggling this year (but without the issues of system, playing the wrong side, etc). Same age? Hasn't shown as much? Not playing any better this year? Gardiner is WAY overrated, and he has been since that "epic playoff run" of 5 points in 6 games. Leafs fans have been making him out to be more than he is ever since then. In the real world, he's proven nothing--a decent rookie year and then he never even got back to that level. If Gardiner is the piece coming back for MDZ, he'd better have a 1st coming along with him. As for Kadri, I'm not a huge fan, but he is essentially a younger clone of Brassard. The "younger" part is why I might take a gamble. Brassard isn't going to be much more than he is right now. Kadri still has a chance (granted an outside chance) to be the ppg player he was last season.

They're doing it now because Sather just woke up ;)

Must have been nice for Marty to be getting paid by the Rangers AND MSG :naughty:

Or was he not getting paid because his retirement? This situation is tricky....

@RangerBoy - Did any rumblings come out of the meeting with Newport and the Rangers?

(I know '@' someone doesn't do anything on HF, you mongrels)

lolz.

Gardiner is playing a lot better than Del Zotto this season. He's also controllable for two seasons beyond Del Zotto.

I actually think they're both very similar. High 1st rd picks with the skill to be game changers but without the mindset to put up the same effort game in and game out.

I see similar career paths with both of them.

Derek Morris is about the only deadline rental I remember Sather getting that I actually liked.

Morris wasn't bad considering what we gave up for him.

I actually liked Antropov as a player. Thought he played pretty well for us and he added the size and scoring the team was really lacking up front. However, I didn't think that team had any business renting players for a playoff run, so it kind of negates the positives.

Had Clowe remained healthy, I think he would have been a great addition to this team. I think he added a crucial element that we once again lack. It's a shame that he got concussed to end the season. Made him seem like a waste when in reality it had the potential to be a very beneficial trade for us (at least in terms of what he could have brought last season). I don't think we would have been man handled by Boston had he been healthy.
