Dan Girardi

I know there were a few bulbs around the net involving the B's looking at Girardi. With that said I don't remember seeing the B's scouts on those list of teams that had reps at the Garden. Anyone have more recent list of scouts from the past 3 games?

I still think that if...and the big word being "IF" the Rangers can gt him at the 5 mil mark for say 5 or 6 years I would keep him around. That's only for lack of a RD. Seems that none are avail either condering the Rangers have been reportedly looking for one since the beginning of last season. If he is over that cap ht, or term then you simply have to let him go. Problem is the more they wait on the this the less leverage they have. He should be priority. And if that money doesn't get it done then he should be moved NOW to the highest bidder.

injuries are part of the game..

malkin is hurt every other week and misses half the season..

zetterberg is constantly hurt

bergeron/krecji are constantly missing time

kesler is constantly hurt

injuries are hockey and the style they play sucks for fans bc they put their bodies on the line and will miss time..

im just saying rangers never take care of their own.. they always make things difficult.. and want the next best thing instead of building a team and keeping a team together for a long time.. with the cap raising paying someone 4m this year is like 6m next year and the coming years will only increase the cap and players AAVs will rise even more.. wait till stamkos deal bet it will be 10m AAV..

they are always willing to over pay someone more outside the org then in the org and its wrong..

sign players as best you can under market value or close to and everyone wins.. these guys are heart and sole players why not pay them for their services

Malkin is an elite top-5 center. Zetterberg isn't far behind. Both won Cups with their clubs.

Bergeron and Krejci are an excellent 1-2 punch who helped bring Boston a Cup.

Kesler is a Selke candidate and huge part of the Canucks PP, over .5 PPG average in his career.

Stamkos is worth paying 10 mil so he doesn't hit FA even though he is probably not worth 10 mil. You overpay players who are worth overpaying and are irreplaceable. Are Callahan and Girardi easily replaceable? Not easily, but they are replaceable and not comparable to any of the players you mentioned.

I agree they should take care of their own but not hurt the team in the same sense and cripple the ability to move players, sign them etc. Would you rather have Girardi and Callahan or Krieder and Miller?
If everyone is taken care of eventually someone will leave, remember how unpopular the idea to not resign Drury in Buffalo was... He was their captain at the time too, he got paid here and then his knees finally caught up to him.

As mentioned above Callahan and Girardi are not the same as Malkin, Kesler, and Zetterberg. I would take there contracts and injuries on this team any day of the week.

does this mean I don't want to resign them? No I would keep them. However the right trade comes along, I'd pack the bags.

just bc g doesn't score pts doesn't mean hes not of value now or worthy of a contract ext..

if he was a 50pt dman consistently he would be constantly be in the norris conversation... but since he doesn't put of pts and is a pure defender he doesn't warrant any value for his service???

he matches up on a nightly basis vs top teams lines and constantly healthy and plays through it all.. dude is a warrior.. we don't even know what the contract demands are or where the negotiations are going, only here reports that he might be shopped bc there isn't much going on...

every player who signs ext long term, there play will fall off towards the end its a given, but its the nature of the beast to pay your own thats all im saying..

Girardi isnt worth a big contract on this team. We need dmen with more offense and Girardi doesnt have much. We havent won anything with him

im just being devils advocate i rather g then callahan bc top 4 rhd are non existent, they are not ever available... you lock them up.. all i m saying is who knows where theyre contract talks are going..

but just remember the grass isn't always greener.. losing g would hurt a lot thats all im saying.. hes very under appreciated..

I appreciate and like Girardi and Callahan a lot. I want them to stay on the team... I'd just rather instead of say 8 years on one contract I'd prefer 8 years over 2-4 contracts smaller years... That's better for both team and player

The problem is neither G or C will be worth their next contracts. So do we want to give them those deals or let someone else?

why is it an issue to pay him.. every team around the league is signing their core guys up

do you want getz/perry cap when hes 34-36yrs old..

zeterberg is 33 and hes sign till hes in his early 40s..

sedins are 34 and signed till their late 30s

dion just signed a 7year deal taking him to 36

the point is every contract is a risk, but if you dont pay your not going to easily replace what you lost..

why is it an issue to pay our home grown guys what they deserve.. take that over payment as what shouldve been given to Mcd..

the second girardi isn't on this team is the time you wish he never left.. he is not replaceable.. top pairing RHD do not come available often and are impossible to make up for what he brings..

a younger guy is not going to be as sound as G is..

5yr-30m

or 6yr-33m

or 7-35 and call it a day..

we dont sign him we will and you can almost expect to over pay even more on FA and not even get the same production back.. hes a warrior and id take on my team any day..

then this time next year we'll see new threads pop up the same as dubi and prust leaving..i really dont get it..

Perry, Getzlaf, Phaneuf, Sedins, Zetterberg, Callahan, Girardi: 2 of those players aren't like the others take a guess which two. Just because they're "core" players doesn't mean they should be given 8 year deals. All of the above players you mentioned are elite players on their respective teams hence why they were locked up before hitting free agency. Callahan and Girardi might be "core" players for us but that doesn't mean we should throw blank checks to keep them. What has this "core" done? It's time to move on

Huh? Isn't Gaborik out with a broken collarbone for a couple months after just returning from a different injury? This can't even be remotely possible.

He's going to get atleast 5 million. If they can get a good young rd and top pick I trade him

I prefer keeping Callahan if he goes for 6 yr and 5 per . A lot of fans don't but he is not clarkson he's better than him

It's amazing, Cally has a strong game last night after only his 2nd game back, should of gotten as assist on that first goal since he made a great play behind the net to get the puck to the point, made some great defensive plays, made a nice pass to Richards to end his goal drought, and played a very solid game creating chances, and looked very close to his normal self.

I would of hoped his solid game would shut some people up from the trade him talks, but nope. The guy could have a hat trick in the next 5 games and people would still want to trade him.

As per a lot of fans, I doubt that it is only a few ignorant people just dont understand how this sport works and to gut a player like Callahan would not be good for this team.

A lot of fans want them to stay. Especially Callahan, but I think 5 years is more than enough, maybe 6.

One solid game isnt shutting anybody up. People want him to play like he used to

He's had plenty of solid games this season, and I'm truly sick of fans like you throwing the captain under the bus.

There are other players on this team that are the focus of concern, Cally has a pass from his injuries, and deserves that F'ing respect. Yet when he gets back he makes a difference like last light.

It's Eklund so I don't buy it but jesus H christ Sather would totally do this.

Maybe Sather has a deadline plan? :naughty::naughty::naughty:

Kreider-Stepan-Gaborik
Zuccarello-Brassard-Nash
Heatley-Richards-Callahan

no clue lol sarcasm but it is Sather after all

Just to be clear, I'm not sure people want him gutted as much as they are wary of signing him to a long term, high $$$$ contract, particularly with the style of game he plays. At 5 years, 30M I'm happy to have Ryan back. But for 7 years and 45M we're asking for trouble, no? He'll be 29 before this season is up...how is his game going to look in 2 or 4 or dare I say 6 years?

Until the team changes course again next year, and we need dmen with more defense.

We need to choose a direction before absolute any decisions are made about Cally and Girardi.

Good, youre gonna hear it until he plays like the old Callahan. Last night was a blowout, the Wolf pack could have beat Toronto last night.

He is a focus of concern, the so called captain hasnt played well and its a problem. You wanna pay him big money with all the injuries?

I think that is where there is a lot of confusion. I want him back also, think he is a great player, but more than 5 years is risky. I feel for what he has done in the last several seasons he should get that extension and no fan should be upset about it if it not more than 5 years, and no more than 30 million.

So I agree with you. I'm just annoyed because he has had a rough season from the start and fans should give him a pass, and just see what he does in the 2nd half.

Lundqvist got re-signed for his past seasons not this one for sure.

What about something like:

Del Zotto + ______

For

Kadri + Gardiner

Kadri is constantly benched in Toronto. Gardiner doesn't look good in Carlyle's system. The Leafs like MDZ.

Hard to determine what piece the Leafs like on top of MDZ. All of the players mentioned need a change of scenery.

That's the type of deal the Rangers need to be looking for. What other young players need a change of scenery?

Callahan's season has been nowhere near bad compared to some of the trainwrecks of other players on this team, and he had injuries to deal with.

No, don't want to pay him big money but a good contract of say 30 million is not taking a big risk for a guy who has proven to bounce back from these injuries. But like I said above more than 5 years could start to get risky.

Sign him for 5 years, 5.5 million and no one should complain.

5.5 is alot for a guy who hasnt played a full season in years due to injuries. I just think the NYR should trade him OR bring him back on a reasonable contract
