Does Nash get to have his dopey choice of what six (?) teams still if we want to trade him?

He had an NMC written into his contract, so he can decline whatever trade he wants if it's still active, which is information I'm pretty sure we aren't privy to at the moment.

I thought it was a limited NTC because of all the "list" talk way back. So it's actually a full NMC, well with our luck he'll let us ditch him then.

The "list" was just teams he would potentially accept a trade to. In the end I'm pretty sure NY and SJ were the only two teams he would really have gone to. It was definitely an NMC. But he waived it, so if we didn't grant him permission to keep it, it's not there anymore...at least I think that's how it works.

Callahan and Girardi aren't the problems. "Stars" playing like stars are. Richards. Nash. 1st line players playing like 3rd liners and not noticeable/difference makers.

This.

If you knew before the season that Zuccarello and Kreider were about to have breakout years, Hagelin would come back strong from surgery, Stralman would continue to evolve and Talbot would be a big contributor, you would have been thrilled.

This issue here is simple -- Lundqvist, Nash, Richards, Stepan, Del Zotto, Staal and to some degree Girardi have been disappointing. There are others. That's at least 35MM spent on passengers this year.

Get the stars right and this thing will turn around. Fast. And if not, then expect the Bekins man to have a busier than usual off season.

And that's the ****ing problem. It happens every damn year. A few people step up big and instead of complimenting the other players, they wind up carrying the team while the "stars" become passengers. Stepan, Nash, and Brassard in the playoffs last year are great examples. This year, Kreider, Zuke, and McGod become beasts while the rest of the team regresses. It's a vicious cycle.

I watched many Leafs games, vs the Stars and vs the Rangers and I still don't get the Gardiner love fest.
Gardiner> DZ? in figure skating maybe.

So now seems like the perfect time to fleece the **** out of the Leafs in a Girardi deal. Even their announcer was hugging Girardi's peaches during the game

Girardi + Boyle for Franson, Kadri, 2014 conditional 1st

:naughty:

Yet he wouldn't have been at that cap hit had we picked him up on waivers, which is what you were after this team to do. He's also playing on a much more competitive team with a stronger group of forwards.

We lost 5-2. Take away his 2 goals and we still lose that game. Not to mention trying to assess player benefit like that makes no sense.

Also had points against us in the last game against them at the garden.

Yeah, we should have picked him up off waivers. I'd rather have him than either Pouliot (though I like Pouliot quite a bit) and Moore, who we ultimately used the cap space on. But in hindsight I'm sure we did the right thing by using that conditional 7th on Dan Carcillo instead! :shakehead

Maybe something like a Girardi, add prospect, and 2nd for Edler, while Elder is having an off year this year his best play has come under AV and Girardi's with Torts... maybe a reuniting is possible?

Edler has been awful this year, has a NTC, and that's an overpayment for who at his peak is our #3.

Stepan + MDZ + 2014 3rd to EDM for Yakupov + 2014 1st

Buy out Richards, sign one of Grabovski/Stastny/Thornton in the offseason. Qualify Brassard.

Kreider-MG/PS/JT-Nash
Zuccarello-Brassard-Yakupov
Hagelin-Miller-Callahan

That top 9 is drool worthy

Drooling doesn't win you games in the NHL, it may win you games in NHL 14.

I know Mac would be before Edler but who else would be? Staal?

Well I didn't mean #3rd best, but I can't imagine him or McD would play the right side for each other. I meant he'd be the best player on the 2nd pair.

Yeah, I realize there's no way EDM does that unless they completely lose faith in Yak succeeding there. I do think though that Stepan would be the type of player they would move Yak for if they wanted to

Oh yea but he's younger and cheaper with more points than Girardi and has more points than Staal

I just figure Edler would help the transition game and has a bomb of a shot

Behind who? McDonagh + Edler is a beauty top pair, despite both being lefties, and if Edler is 'at his peak' he's a legit top pairing player on most teams in the league, no questions. Not saying do that trade, but you're underrating Edler.

Suter + Brodin and Hamhuis + Edler are good examples of lefty pairings. Keith and Hjalmarsson play together a lot as well. Kronwall + Ericsson or Kronwall + Lidstrom. Often Chara + Seidenberg in the past.

Edler is almost as inconsistent as DZ, although his top end has been higher than DZ's.

That's a massive exaggeration.

08/09: 37 points in 80 games
09/10: 42 points in 76 games
10/11: 33 points in 51 games - pace for 51 points
11/12: 49 points in 82 games
12/13: 22 points in 45 games - pace for 42 points

Fairly consistent. Bomb of a shot. A lot better defensively than DZ. Plays big minutes on a team that's been fairly consistently successful and went to then SCF with him on their top pair. Plays physical, can deliver some huge hits and blocks a large number of shots too. It's not just his top end that's been better than DZ. He's flat out all around better.
