wonder if fayne might be a name being considered. hmmmm the plot thickens. dun dun dunnnnnnnn

That's what worries me too. But if you get a Pominville-type for Fayne, I can hardly complain. I don't think he has all that much value now though, not enough worth trading him.

I'm not as sold on Matteau as everybody else is and I think many people on this board constantly tout Matteau as a higher prospect than he really is viewed around the league. I thought it was insane not to sacrifice the pick to satisfy the Kovy penalty, but I think we're beating that argument to death if we bring it up again.

I'd gladly give up Matteau in any deal for a controlled top 6 winger who can skate and score. I just don't agree now on the "plus" part. Urbom and Burlon do not have much value and Urbom may very well head back to Sweden. They'd be throw ins. There needs to be a good 2nd piece in addition to Matteau. Whether that's a 1st round pick or a guy like Merrill is the question.

Again, I'd love Pominville, but the price is going to be more than just a pinch on the arm so to speak.

I guess we just disagree on this. I think Urbom/Gelinas/Burlon are valuable assets, but not the bluchip prospects that everyone else on this board seems to think they are. There's a huge shortage of talented young D in the league and we happen to have a surplus of them. I'd readily give any of them up.

Personally, I would have given up the pick, and at the draft I immediately dismissed Matteau as a role player (which he his), but he's an elite role player and I feel as though those kinds of players tend to be underrated around the league. I'm okay with the selection and see him as a B+ prospects. Less than bluechip guys like Merrill, but having a finite value).

I see Matteau as a Zubrus clone, nothing more and nothing less. A physical top-6 guy that can play in any position but excels in none. I don't want to give him up, but would for a difference maker that will be here for a while like Pommer.

I don't see how Fayne has enough value right now in a lot of possible moves, since he isn't even playing.

Wish we knew what was going on. If it's not injury, I wouldn't be surprised to see Fayne ask for a trade this offseason or hold it against the Devils next year when he's due for a new contract.

He didn't sound too happy at all the first time he was scratched and even moreso again when he came back for a couple games only to be scratched again.

I don't think he has to play them to count, he just has to be on the roster. Sounds like the year really is burnt at this point. I wish we could send him to the A because I don't think he should be on an NHL roster right now.

I'm fairly certain he has to play for it to.count.

Rumors of Stafford now? We don't need another Zajac.

Agreed. Want nothing to do with Stafford. Good for nothing floater who had a good year and has been living off it ever since.

I'd sign him to a low risk, 1 year deal ($2-3M) but I would never give up assets for him.

I am fairly certain I read that you don't but it might have been bad information. Might check into that later if I'onm bored.

reason i believe you do is bc the sabres said w/ grigorenko that since he didnt play in the 23 games or whatever it is, it didnt burn a year of UFA status although year one of his contract is burned.

I wouldn't blame him. He signed a cheap short-term deal almost as a favor last offseason when we couldn't sign anyone to over $1 million plus other than the big FA's to be. Sometimes in a short season things can't be helped, like the Luongo-Schnieder thing.

But if I were Fayne I'd ride it out now and then ask for a trade in the offseason if I wasn't in the team's plans for next year.

A trade for a player like Stafford is ultimately what will end up happening if Lou does make a move.

We simply can't give up ( any really ) of our roster forwards nor do we have a abundance of high end prospects to be giving away guys like Merrill in trades.

Agreed 100%. Lou gambled on young guys making a difference but that hasn't happened so far. We need to make a move.

At this point I'm just hoping if not this year then next year we can do something. Maybe on the UFA market. Tedenby version 4.0, or Josefson or the 2013 Bobby Butler aren't gonna cut it next year. Not if we lose any of our UFA's. Even if we don't this team simply isn't good enough, and still needs an acquistion on the market. Even if we can hopefully keep all our UFA's.

No more episodes like last year either. Sign Patty before UFA, Zubrus too, and don't miss out on something good if Clarkson is on the market. He's not Zach Parise, and he isn't worth handcuffing the team for even just a few hours, let alone a few days. Right now he's playing like he deserves a million dollar a year raise at best.

Except Matteau has a better shot, is more aware in the offensive zone, uses his body both to protect the puck and check people, and is a cannonball on the ice.

I can't believe in the spot we are in now we are sitting 2 NHL caliber (solid middle pairing) defensemen. Its not like Lou is going to trade one for a desperately needed forward either. What the hell Lamoriello. We need to put together wins now. There is no time for a win here a loss there a win here and a loss there. This team looked so uninspired last night. No more of this well its a rough a schedule cop out. Elias and Clarkson did absolutely nothing and Zajac looked like a 4th line center struggling to keep up with the play. Lamoriello better do something right now. Take advantage of the surplus and get somebody here. Overpay, I really don't care. This is looking like Marty's absolute last shot at a Cup! Don't go out and get a fringe player (ex: Havelid) get a god damn top 6 winger with speed. I know it isn't as easy as 1,2,3 to make a trade that benefits the team but god dammit overpay if it must happen! This looks so gassed and tired some games not because they are actually tired but because they are uninspired. Get some speed. Please. This team desperately needs a winger who will work hard and brings scoring and speed. This waiting and waiting is killing this team as is their play. Clarkson deserves to walk this summer or take a paycut with his play right now. Kovalchuk has a bipolar effort every other game. and Zajac actually sucks!

Simple solution though. With Harrold showing he can play OK and move the puck we have 8(EIGHT) NHL defensemen. Trade one of them + a prospect (Burlon, Gelinas, Severson, Scarlett, etc) for a okay top 6/good top 9 winger.

Miettinen plays on the 2nd line but Burmistrov sits in the pressbox. And Scheifele still plays in the minors.

I don`t care if he makes any immediate impact, not at all. Go after the kid, Lou. Who knows, maybe IhaveAdayOff is that stupid.

Well, here's this: Mikaël Lalancette ‏@MLalancette

#Devils sent Matteau back to Blainville-Boisbriand.

Clowe not skating with the Sharks today but believed to be nursing a injury.

We really are the kiss of death around the league.

Except with Loktionov, he was constantly mentioned around here before we acquired him. Maybe it was a delayed curse since he only got hurt after we actually traded for him though.

That was a year off the ELC, not a year off FA.

You're correct. Got the two mixed up.

Was it 23 games before that situation arises, though?

#Devils sent Matteau back to Blainville-Boisbriand.

Is that the name of the minor-league team or something?

Forgive my ignorance but that's the first time I've heard that name.

EDIT : Nevermind. Just saw Matteau was sent back to the QMJHL so it has to be the name of the minor league team there.

I doubt Pominville gets traded, and if he does, the receiving team will overpay big time.

Perhaps Darcy called, I would offer Fayne, Josefson, and a 4th for Pominvile. That's all I'd be willing to offer...

He didn't even have a good year. He had like 8 good games all season and pulled off like 5 hat tricks. Something like 75% of his goals came in 8 or 10 games.

Stafford sucks.
