You think they would want to part ways with their captain? Interesting.

He`s creative and skilled, but too cute very often. Just saying.

If they really want to blow it up, I can see them entertaining offers. Especially if Darcy gets fired.

He has a monster slapshot and would give us another genuine threat on the PP besides Kovy.

We'd probably have to give up Matteau+, which I know won't be popular with you guys but I would seriously consider it.

As long as it's not Matteau AND a 1st I'd be down. I don't consider Matteau untouchable like Larsson and Henrique, sorry but I don't. If we wanna get something though I don't think Tallinder, and some D prospects are gonna cut it. Not with Tallinder's current injury on top of last years. We'd have to give away Fayne or Greene to get something of worth. Or Matteau or Merrill.

Jason Pominville would make this team much much much much better. And he's at a decent cap hit of just over $5 million for this year and next. 20 points on a team that's scored as little as we have or maybe even less.

Sorry but I'm not about to give up on Matteau after just a handful of games.

I'm willing to give him several more years as a Devil in order to have a better grasp on whether he's worth keeping around than just getting rid of him just because he's PLAYING LIKE A ROOKIE. :shakehead

Jason Pominville: 451 points in 569 games = .79 PPG
Zach Parise: 432 points in 529 games = .81 PPG

Pommer is pure hustle forward, very good defensively, is a leader, and most importantly is a CONSISTENT point producer. And he's signed beyond this season. He compares very well to Zach.

I'd give up Matteau, Urbom/Gelinas, and a 2nd for Pominville and a longshot forward prospect (David Catenacci or Christian Isackson, maybe).

It would take THAT much to get Pominville..maybe.

Have we officially used up a UFA year on Matteau this year? If so then

Devils had no choice.

They sat him after 5 games and seriously considered sending him down but because Zubie got hurt, that forced their hand in having him stay and thus a year was burned as a result. :dunno:

Pominville would be so awesome. He is a GREAT player and plays a devils style game. Would take a lot and i don't think buff would deal him. id get rid of matteau for him and not think twice. i could see him having 5 or 6 more good years left in him

I could have sworn someone else said it was 23 games played before that happens. Matteau's at 16 I think, it might get close depending on what happens at the deadline but he hasn't been playing lately.

That was a year off the ELC, not a year off FA.

Sabres are not trading Jason Pominville for anything less than Adam Larsson.

Which means, no deal is happening.

That's simply not true.

Although I don't think Lou would deal with Darcy. Regier is notorious for only doing deals he feels he "wins". He has to rip the other team off.

I know back in the early 2000's, Calgary proposed Jerome Iginla + 3rd for Michael Peca. Darcy refused, and demanded Jerome Iginla + Toni Lydman. Calgary kept Iginla, the Sabres traded Peca for Tim Connolly + Taylor Pyatt (who both left via UFA) and later traded a 3rd for Lydman.

I know Brian Burke said [paraphrasing] "Darcy is a good friend of mine personally but I can't stand to deal with him professionally."

The consensus here in Buffalo is that it's only a matter of time before Darcy is fired. Hopefully their next GM is more reasonable.

Lou is a classical kind of guy, I can't recall him ever making a deal with Darcy. He's probably on Lou's blacklist.

I want buff to succeed a lot. Been a half assed fan becuse of mogilny. So whatever changes they make to both improve their chance at a cup, go back completely to their original jerseys and lose the numbers on the front is ok with me.

That only reinforces my point. Regier is not moving him for anything less than a painful overpay based on his modus operandi. Any trades are going to come from ownership until there is a new GM and I don't see Pegula letting Pominville get dealt for anything short of a stud.

Even if the above played out as you state and Larsson could be removed, the cost for Pominville would be prohibitive for us. It would cost multiple top prospects (likely both Matteau and Merrill) and likely a pick as well.

I don't think he has to play them to count, he just has to be on the roster. Sounds like the year really is burnt at this point. I wish we could send him to the A because I don't think he should be on an NHL roster right now.

Done. That would be absolutely awesome and would make us contenders in the East.

But that's where I'm saying you're wrong.

Darcy doesn't want Thornton/Kovalchuk/Varlamov overpayment, he just thinks everyone on his team demands quality assets.

He wouldn't demand Larsson. Matteau+ is what he would ask for, because Buffalo has no elite utility players. They're soft and need a jack-of-all-trades, which is what he is. And, as mentioned previously, I think we need to move a prospect defensmen soon or they'll begin to lose value. Urbom/Gelinas/Burlon are all above-average assets but we can't keep all of them.

Matteau, to me, is a worthy prospect we should invest in but I don't think he's untouchable. I think we could find a Zubrus replacement via free agency and trade a prospect with high value for a guy that fill an immediate need and we could keep long-term.

Pegula is a non-factor in this. He thought Leino was a legit #2C and that Ehrhoff was a bonafide #1D, both of which are grossly incorrect. He wants to provide a positive culture in the locker room. He grew up as a Flyers fan and knows how important physical role players are to team success.

The only barrier is a stubborn Buffalo GM who will likely be relieved from duty soon.

I expect a d prospect to get traded this deadline or this summer.

can def see it sooner rather than later. this lineup currently is not a cup contending one. yeah i dont care if this is basically the same team that went to final last year. its not the same season or team, as evidenced by what we see on the ice. just a tweak and this team CAN make a push. getting marty back is the first order of business though. hes desperately needed. moose is just not a starter anymore. god bless his precious soul but hes a backup plain and simple.

Agreed 100%. Lou gambled on young guys making a difference but that hasn't happened so far. We need to make a move.

I'm not as sold on Matteau as everybody else is and I think many people on this board constantly tout Matteau as a higher prospect than he really is viewed around the league. I thought it was insane not to sacrifice the pick to satisfy the Kovy penalty, but I think we're beating that argument to death if we bring it up again.

I'd gladly give up Matteau in any deal for a controlled top 6 winger who can skate and score. I just don't agree now on the "plus" part. Urbom and Burlon do not have much value and Urbom may very well head back to Sweden. They'd be throw ins. There needs to be a good 2nd piece in addition to Matteau. Whether that's a 1st round pick or a guy like Merrill is the question.

Again, I'd love Pominville, but the price is going to be more than just a pinch on the arm so to speak.
