Its my fault when i compared a Clarkie to a Semin. He's pending UFA though, until he signs somewhere people will keep talking about him.

Talk about whoever you want. I mean I'd love Crosby on our Top C.

But I'm not gonna crucify Lou for 3/4 of the year cause he didn't sign a guy that he was either reluctant and scared to get or someone who wasn't interested in playing in newark. I dunno if he'd even be that effective with how and where he'd play in our lineup anyway.

The Capitals fans aren't all crazy. He is inconsistent, plays below his skill level due to laziness, takes selfish penalties, and former teammates aren't all making it up that he wasn't good in the room either. Maybe we could overlook or fix most of those things, but with his asking price, it is a sizable risk. I definitely understand why some want him, but I also understand why others want nothing to do with him.

Here I agree with you. He doesn't owe them anything. I have no problem with players being mercenaries as long as they are up front about it. Jagr makes it no secret that he went to Philly and then Dallas purely for the money. That's his right and I have no problem with that. But I do vilify guys like Parise who say it's all about winning and then jump for the money.

Semins #'s over the last 5 season speaks for themselves. He was the teams whipping boy and was playing 3rd line minutes by the end. I find it hilarious that people think an NHL player is lazy. You can't be lazy and make it to the NHL. Not to mention be as productive as Semin.

Media created BS? Come on, that is silly. Media created BS is the trap myth. Devils forwards absolutely do have a minimum acceptable standard of defensive play, and in the past, guys who haven't met the standard have been shipped out.

Lou brought Kovy in via trade and found out that he was willing to mould his game to become a better defensive player. Now he has become a regular on the PK, which is something we all would have laughed at when he was in Atlanta. He has also cleaned up his positional defence and puck responsibility by a whole lot too. Lou only knew that this transformation was possible because Kovy was on the team for those months. If he was just seeing Kovy hit the UFA market and had no idea what a transformation Kovy could make, he wouldn't have been nearly as willing to pay him the big money.

And I don't buy the theory that it was all Vanderbeek. Lou knew exactly what he was doing, and he would never stand for meddlesome ownership. Lou has nothing left to prove in the game, he could have retired that summer and nobody would have said a word about it being because he was leaned on by ownership.

Defensive positions and responsibility are taught. It would be rare to find a player not willing to do what the team ask him to do. Especially Kovy since he always cared about winning.

lol at the notion Lou believes in 'Russian stereotypes' when he was one of the first if not the first to have Russians on his team (Fetisov, Starikov), he brought over Mogilny when people thought some of the same things about him they did about Kovy a few years ago and he's had some of the most anti-Russian stereotypes in his employ like Brylin and Nemchinov.

I said if Lou believed in the Russian stereotype. The fact that people actually think Semin is lazy is a joke and probably watched 2% of his games.

Ohhhhhh baby, I said we gotta go.

I want him on the team if only because they'd play that on the PA 20,000 times each game.

There's no real point to talking about him now, people have been obsessed with him for months, blaming Lou for not signing him as if it wasn't a two or even three-way street (GM, owner and player/agent) because of the 'stereotypes' about Semin. Never mind actual PLAYERS have said the same things about Semin the media's supposed to have made up, he was just misunderstood and it was a total media creation...

I would like to see those quotes. Semin doesn't speak English or cares what the media says about him.

Just google it, last year a bunch of former teammates ripped him after leaving the Caps. The worst was a guy saying he was more talented than Ovechking but just didn't care.

Edit: I still think Semin is a good hockey player and would have liked him for the Carolina contract.

A bunch? Looks like it was just Brower.

“It was tough to lose his scoring ability when he wanted to play,” Brouwer said, “but all in all we’ve been doing well without him. -------LOL

“Some nights you didn’t know if he was going to come to the rink. It’s tough to play alongside guys like those, because you don’t know what you’re going to get out of them.”

“It can be frustrating,” Brouwer said. “I know there’s a lot of guys that work really, really hard to get where they are, and some guys it’s a little easier because of their skill set.”

Sounds like Brouwer thinks Semin was born with his skill set instead of actually practicing it his entire life to get it. God I hate people who think like that.

BTW Holik said bad things about Kovy. Some players just don't like other players for whatever reason.

i find it funny how people still think we can get iginla. he has a list of 4 teams that he'll go to and very well may not even be traded. i'd love him but we're not getting him.

Stars fan on the Trade board says 2nd and Urbom for Jagr

I do it in a heart beat.

I would too. Doubt they would though. They're still in a playoff spot, but he could be had at the deadline maybe. It's gonna be a big week or two coming up approaching the deadline. To see where teams will stand.

Ty, it was at least 2 players and some more anonymous ones, they all came out around the same time, kind of like once one guy said something a bunch of guys felt more comfortable.

For example:

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/...sounds-off-on-semin-ovechkin-and-dale-hunter/

Caps goalie Michal Neuvirth decided to spice up the offseason by speaking his mind on Alexander Semin, Alex Ovechkin, and Dale Hunter in an interview with a Czech website.

On Semin:

“If Semin wanted to, he could have been the best player in the world, but he doesn’t want to every day. And that’s wrong.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...are/2011/08/17/gIQA40sELJ_blog.html#pagebreak

Former Capitals winger Matt Bradley said in a radio interview Wednesday that ex-teammate Alexander Semin “just doesn’t care,” and that the Russian sniper didn’t show up when Washington needed him in the playoffs.

Asked to describe the discipline problems without naming names:

Alexander Semin, above, “could easily be the best player in the league,” former teammate Matt Bradley said. “I don’t mind saying Alexander Semin’s name, because he’s one guy who has so much talent, he could easily be the best player in the league, and just for whatever reason, just doesn’t care.

I would love Jagr here. I said it months ago and got laughed at. I would have loved him in the offseason too if we signed him last year. People might laugh at the thought of him being on the team, but he makes this team MUCH better right now. With or without Kovy.

That whole Caps locker room has been, and still is to some extent, a mess.
At the fault of who, we obviously have no insight... so I've been taking any and all quotes on others character with a grain of salt.

I hope Washington wins out the southeast. Winnipeg and Carolina do not impress me, and Florida and TB are done. The Boucher firing is a sign of that.

Ty, it was at least 2 players and some more anonymous ones, they all came out around the same time, kind of like once one guy said something a bunch of guys felt more comfortable.

looks like Troy Brouwer has done it before.

“You never like to see anyone say things like that,” captain Eric Staal told the Raleigh News and Observer. “Troy Brouwer seems to say that about a few guys that he’s played with. He’s entitled to his opinions and we’re entitled to ours.

“We have nothing to say but good things about Alex — he’s been great for our team.”

Here’s more from defenseman Joe Corvo, who played with Semin in both Washington and Carolina:

He, too, was miffed to hear of Brouwer’s remarks.

“I would assume (Semin) would get mad and want to prove otherwise,” Corvo said. “Betrayed, probably? I’d feel betrayed if one of my former teammates said something like that about me. You’re supposed to be a family when you’re playing together.

“If you’ve got a problem with someone, say it. Don’t say it later.”

Carolina forward Tim Brent also jumped to Semin’s defense, via Twitter.

Just read Troy Brouwer’s comments about Semin. I can say on behalf of his teammates that we love having him here, and he has been (cont)

— Tim Brent (@Brenter37) February 25, 2013

a big part of our success so far with his consistent play and work ethic. NOT only his scoring ability. I hope he sticks it to them #canes

— Tim Brent (@Brenter37) February 25, 2013

Semin, it should be noted, turned down all interview requests heading into tonight’s game.

The ‘Canes and Caps will get things underway at 7 p.m. ET tonight, from the Verizon Center.
