I don't see Zubrus leaving. He's a perfect forward for the Devils and Lou knows that. He's not that attractive that he'd fetch that much in the open market either, especially coming off an injury. Lou will sign him.

I expect Elias to get a 3 year deal with an AAV of around 5.5M.

Clarkson is a hard one to place a value on, after a 30 goal season and his hot start this year, it'll be interesting to see what he ends up with. I'm personally hoping for something around 4.5M but i could see him getting a little more depending on how he finishes out this season.

I agree with the notion that Zubrus may not return next year, although i'd love to have him back at around 3M for a couple of years i get the feeling he might get a better deal elsewhere. Clarkson and Elias will definitely be re-signed though, and rightfully so; along with Zajac, Kovalchuk and Henrique that gives us a pretty solid core to build around.

What forwards do we have knocking on the door? Matteau is already here. Haven't Lou and Pete talked about having more players like Zubrus around in reference to Matteau? Why would he let the real thing go, to let a lesser of him take his place?

XXXX - Zajac - Kovy
Elias - Henrique - Clarkson
Poni - Zubrus - Matteau
Carter - Gionta - Bernier

Get a 20 goal scorer for the first line and that is ****ing solid.

It might come down to keeping Poni or Zubs. I don't think both stay.

This has crossed my mind. Personally though I think we can keep both, but maybe not on multi years. Regardless I really believe Matteau will spend some time in the AHL next year. I don't believe he's in the NHL for good yet.
Elias will prob get the same cap hit he has now. It's hard to justify giving a player a raise at age 36, even if it's Elias.
I think he'll take a slight pay cut. $5 million a year maybe $5.2 kinda like Marty took a slight one. I want nothing to do with Zubrus at over $3 million. I think $2.5 would be fair.

Right and all the panic from the buffalo fans is a bit silly considering they are 4 points out of 8th as well :dunno:

Also funny that they expect to be awesome now and win tonight 6-1.

Stafford is the single most inconsistent forward in the NHL.

He has 1 goal this year, would go 10+ games without a goal last year, and scored nearly half of his 31 goals in 2010-11 on hat tricks. When he's on, he's very good. He's off more often.

Buy low and hope for the best. Maybe Zajac can get him going and he can get Zajac going. Plus, the Devils don't have much in the way of trade assets. I would pull the trigger on Stafford and take my chances.

Actually I screwed up the Lokti/JJ ones, but add another 2m and we are still 3m under the cap.
