I think big ol Brian Gio will be home soon but I don't think it will be this year. Due time.

Don't see it and don't want it happening either. His play has really dropped the last two years and his contract is a killer through next season at which point he'll be 35 going on 36.

It's highly probable Lou won't even be here at that point, which will hopefully put an end to both the fascination with signing everyone's lesser talented and lesser abled brother and re-acquisitions alike.

I can definitely see Brian Gionta coming back, but if Lou acts on it, I'd expect it be via free agency.

Skeptic about Weiss; I think the price will be too high. I'd much rather go Fleischman, depsite his contract. Not trying to give up a top prospect for 2 months of Weiss - guy would bolt in the offseason regardless of what happens in the playoffs

Personally I think the Panthers will take whatever they can get for him, since he's an underperforming UFA who isn't seeing eye to eye with the franchise.

If Lou could dump Volchenkov or Tallinder for Gionta I bet he would pull the trigger as fast as he could and never look bad. They get a bad contract, and we get a bad contract. Yeah Gionta has a year left on his contract after this. Tallinder does too. If we dumped Tallinder, but got Gio that would be the difference of just hundreds of thousands and not millions. That's with Colin White's million buy out being over after this year.

Especially if you assume Tallinder would be here next year. Of course there are better options than Gio. Lou loves bringing back his former Devils, and Gio has a no trade clause. He can go wherever he wants as long as he's wanted there.

I've always loved Fleich's game, as far back as Washington. There must be a reason why teams give up on him, though.

I bet Patty could cure what ails him.

Numbers game in Washington and they traded him to improve their blueline. He walked as a free agent in Colorado.

His cap hit bothers me. Wouldn't really be interested at 4.5 million for 2 more years.

2 more years could be a problem, but just one year is fine. As long as Tallinder is gone by trade. We would have had him next year anyway. Losing Tallinder, and losing White's $1 million buyout hit next year will only be a difference of $150k extra.

I think if we wanted Gio then Montreal would want Zubrus. That's if he was healthy. I would be willing to give them Zubrus if Lou planned to not re sign Zubrus next year like many people think he won't. If he did send Zubrus away that meant he probably wouldn't have re signed him anyway.

However I think Zubrus will be back as well as Poni. Matteau will be in the AHL next year. Book it.

Really don't think the Habs trade their captain as long as they've number 1 in the conference. Would make absolutely no sense.

Do not want Gionta unless it's for dirt cheap.

How about for Tallinder? Remember Tallinder is supposed to play here next year. If we dump Tallinder, and lose Colin White's buyout hit of one million, it's only $650k grand more than it would have been.

Tallinder has one more year for $3.375 million. Gionta one more year for $5 million.

Doubt they want Tallinder and not at the price of their captain.
Don't know how new management feels about B. Gio - but I doubt they'd trade away a core roster player in the middle of all their success.

Didn't even seem realistic when they were coming off a season as bottom feeders.

I've made my case known though. I love him... but I don't want to give up valuable assets to get him. And that's what it's going to take - not Tallinder.

Tallinder, and Urbom or Burlon I'd do it. Maybe Zubrus too. That all depends on if Lou plans on re signing Zubrus. Many of you have said you feel Zubrus will be the odd man out this Summer. I however think he'll be back along with Poni, and Matteau to the AHL. However if Lou plans to let him walk I have no problem with shopping him to get something for him.

I would not do Zubrus for B. Gionta straight up. Seriously.

And like I said, giving up assets that are of any current value for Gionta would be a mistake. Not a huge one, but a mistake when all is said & done.
It'd be the Lou-est of Lou moves to do so, but I don't even think he'd do that.

I'd only give up Zubrus if Lou really has no plans to bring him back next year.

I still think he does though, but many people have said they don't believe he will because of Poni and Matteau. I think Poni, and Zubrus will both be brought back. Matteau will be in the AHL next year, and I'm positive of that. When Zubrus comes back he will probably finish this season there too if he's eligible by then.

Id love bergenheim like I said before but from.what everyone says something weird is going on with him and the organization. Not positive they even know where the hell he is but there was that whole grievance thing since his injury overseas. Don't even have a clue about if he is still hurt (assume he is). In any event the guy can fly out there and plays with a ton of energy while also displaying a pretty.decent scoring.touch plus a clutch element

We would probably not need a whole lot to get Bergenheim. How many years does he have left?

I think the problem here is that you are giving sentimental value too much weight in this trade. If giving up that much could get Gionta, you could probably get a better player, or someone with a much more friendly cap hit for the same package.

Devils fans offering a 2nd + Gelinas for Weiss on the trade board...Am I the only one who wouldn't do that?

I wouldn't do it either. Merrill, Gelinas, and Severson are the only prospect defencemen I wouldn't move except for a ridiculous deal. Larsson isn't a prospect anymore, I'd say.

Merril reminds me a bit of Larsson but with more offensive flair and less defensive acumen.

I think they have more differences than that. They shoot with opposite hands and play opposite sides. Merrill is a better puck distributor in the offensive zone, and has the better wrist shot. Larsson has the better slap shot, and is the better passer on the breakout. Larsson is more physical, which says something about how pure a positional defenceman Merrill is, because Larsson isn't very physical. Both can look a little lethargic with their energy conserving style.

Some guy on FB said he has heard rumblings of us interested in Ryan O'Reilly, anyone else hear anything?

Seems like baseless speculation. I would expect Lou to always inquire when a player of his calibre is available, but it might not be anything more than that.
