While Loktionov has been great, sample size.... He has scored points in 3 games, will that last over the next 20 if he were to be on the 4th line? Look at his goal against Washington, he scored it because of his position not raw talent, he won the faceoff and went for the rebound. Butler isnt going to score that goal because positionally he shouldnt be where the puck went. Is that Butler's fault?

Should Butler being scoring more? Sure. Is he going to do be able to score consistently on the 4th line? No, and I dont understand how you can be down on him for that fact. Let him play a few games on Kovys wing or the 3rd line and see if he can score, then make a judgement.

He has played on Kovy's wing.

Instead of babying players like him and Josefson, usually they have to earn their way up the roster. No one is looking at fault, if you can't contribute then you can look at fault while driving back to Albany.

good thing the coaches agree. Sestito just got called up over Josefson, but we can keep asking that they play top lines despite being meh on the bottom ones on NHL13.

Devils fans offering a 2nd + Gelinas for Weiss on the trade board...Am I the only one who wouldn't do that?

Gelinas' offensive upside is screaming goal scoring PP specialist in the big league. No way I'd trade him for a rental player.

Adding a 2nd rounder to Gelinas is just madness.

He plays with Kovy when Kovy is being double shifted, hardly a consisten basis. I like how when Butler got his goal and assist we were all high on him, and then he doesnt score in the next few games and he somehow is not even NHL worthy. Cant wait for Loktionov to not put up points for a few games... then we are gonna be wanting our draft pick back.

Butler is fine. I'd want him on a line with big bodies so they can do the dirty work and he can get open to use his great shot. Him on a line with Poni and Zubie would work will imo. Why are people so down on him? I think if we were winning no one would be saying **** about him, but we all like to blame someone when we lose. Calm down...

Gelinas has proven nothing in the NHL. We'd be getting a proven top-6 center for a two unknowns. We have plenty of depth on the back-end.

Maybe you fickle types.

I'm not saying he isn't NHL worthy, I'm saying this notion of players being babied is ridiculous.

Replace Butler with Josefson and that exact post would fit in a month ago. Sestito just got called up over him, in real life players earn their stripes.

We also don't have to give up a 1st round pick, which is huge. We can't hoard all of our assets. We must give to get.

At this point I don't think we have the assets (that we are willing to trade) to get a big time player. How's this for a suggestion: Kyle Okposo. Talk about buying low...he can't be worth that much now can he? Being on the Islanders has to be demoralizing, so that has to be a factor in his poor play. What do you guys think it would take to get him?

Gelinas is a 22 years old prospect, of course he didn't prove squat with the big boys yet. This is not a valid argument to trade him for a rental player, even Weiss IMO. We will look great without Eric if Weiss bolts out at the end of the season.

We have plenty of depth on the back-end.

Not with such an offensive upside and so close to NHL ready (1 year again hopefully).

I'd argue that Gelinas and a 2nd is worth more than a late 1st.

He's 22 and given that he's a converted forward, he's actually developing very quickly.

Weiss has been terrible this year. I'm all for acquiring him, but it needs to be at the right price given the risk (his play/ufa status) involved.

Dont you love when this offensive player gets to play 4th line minutes with 4th line players? Kid hasnt been given a real shot to put up points, besides that fact he has looked solid in almost every game.

it seems like every skill player we have gets this excuse. If JJ had skill players he would succeed. If tedenby had skill players he would succeed. If butler had skills players he would succeed. Well im sorry but when you put two or more of these "would be's" together, they should do something. If they cant, maybe one of them can be to blame, but you cant give both of them the excuse. Loktionov started on the 4th line and moved up to 1st line in like 3 games.

hell no on kyle okposo. He gets benched and dropped down lines by THE ISLANDERS on a nightly basis

That's why we could get him really cheap. He was a top 10 pick and put up 50 something points in his early 20s. He has to have the talent still. I feel like he would benefit from a change of scenery. If we could give them Tallinder(maybe trying to get to the cap floor next year or something idk) and a pick(3rd or higher) I'd give it a shot.

Gelinas has proven more then Merrill but yet, the majority wants to keep Merrill around.

Arguments can't go both ways here.

I'd move Merrill before I'd move Gelinas. Eric is averaging a point every other game at the AHL level and had a fantastic rookie year wich saw him score 16 goals.

When's the last time one of our d-men scored 16 goals... honestly, I don't even remember.
