With Girardi being close to re-signing, that puts the cross-hairs on Callahan, Boyle, Moore, and Stralman.

I would lean towards moving Callahan, Stralman and Boyle honestly. I think the Rangers could really re-coup some serious assets for those players and honestly, I bet all of them make it to UFA anyways so if they want them back, they can offer market value for them.

Callahan for A-level center prospect + lower line young forward + 1st

Stralman for 1st + middle-tier big bodied forward

Boyle for 2nd + prospect

That would be huge and someone tell me where the team really drops all that much from the roster. Top pairing is intact. Klein can easily move up to the top-4.

Callahan has been out quite a bit this year. On pace for ~45 points. 3rd liner with no PP time right now. His energy will have to be replaced, I think it can be done.

Boyle is already playing out of position on the 4th line. Dorsett can replace Boyle's PK minutes.

Bumping as it was the last post on the last page

Negotiations with first-pair right defenseman Dan Girardi, also a pending unrestricted free agent, also have hit a road block. Girardi, who likely would yield a bigger bounty on the rental market than Callahan, is believed to be seeking a six-year deal in the neighborhood of $5.5 million per season, which represents fair market value. Sather is believed to have countered with a relatively low-ball offer of four years at approximately $4.75 million per.

He removed that.

Updated version: Callahan's future as Ranger in doubt; Girardi negotiations ongoing; NYR interest in Avs' McGinn.

Callahan is a goner.

With the Rangers giving Girardi that type of money, they must not be confident about Staal. That's a lot of money for Girardi. Eddie O felt the Rangers needed to sign Girardi because Staal wasn't signing an extension.

LeBrun had the Rangers being hopeful/confident about last week. Not on Callahan.

We're told that they are targeting a right-handed defenceman. That would be the top of their wish-list and one name that I know will have some intrigue is Dan Girardi of the New York Rangers. However, at this point the Rangers are telling teams that they're not moving him, are focused on signing him and are confident at this point that those negotiations will possibly lead to a new deal.

Ryan Callahan is another unrestricted free agent for the Rangers. That negotiation is perhaps not as far down the road, and I don't know if the Rangers can get both done, but Girardi seems more likely.

LeBrun wrote about Callahan yesterday being on the block. Nothing about Girardi.

In a team game everyone has a job to do... brown does his job better than Callahan that's all I'm trying to point out

Duuurrrr, yea, that's how it goes. Everyone has a job to do. Brown doing a better job than Callahan doesn't have anything to do with the rest of the nonsense you started spewing left and right. There's a reason why your posts are being quoted by numerous guys that truly, truly know their ****.

But but.... I like Stralman....he's like the only guy who hips check on this team

I believe Rupp has (2)? NJ and Pitt?

Moot point really.

Nah he wasn't on the Pens when they won theirs.

It doesn't matter because Callahan has no cups and is inferior to everybody :dunce:.

This will be a fun and tension filled couple of weeks. It's really unpredictable at this point.

If we can get DG for 5 for 25m sign me up...That would be a great deal for us anywhere approaching 6 is a no go..If we sign DG I guess that means Stralman will be moved? McIlrath has to be on the team next year so someone has to go

I'm trying to point out that Callahan should not get Brown's money that's why I'd rather trade him for some good assets. All I'm trying to do is say I don't want to have to burden Callahans contract

I think that is right on the money for Girardi. I wouldn't be upset with that. He meshes really well with McDonagh, he is a leader in the room, RD.

I don't understand why so many people are okay with $5M, or even $5.5M, but not $6M. I get the years thing. But if the years are agreed upon, would you really move on from Girardi over $1M/per, or even $500k?

True, but with Klein added and Girardi close to re-signing, I am hoping the maximize the asset they signed to extend the value added to the organization. Allen, IMO, is ready for 15 minutes a night in the NHL. Smooth skater, handles the puck well. Calm.

I have little doubt that McGinn would be a fan favorite by the 1st intermission

I agree. Ball of energy, good skater. 25 years old. Good size.

Other than Eddie's quote what makes you think that?

I am hoping it doesn't come to that. I am happy with 5. I am willing to go to 5.5. 6 is a bit high.

This is what I've been saying all along (although I'd have been okay with Girardi being traded and Stralman retained). I also wouldn't mind moving D. Moore.

And how much does the lineup really change?

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Pouliot-Brassard-MZA
Hagelin-Richards-Fast
Carcillo-Lindberg-Dorsett

McD-Girardi
Staal-Klein
J. Moore-Allen

Half of the team is up for a raise, really gotta save all the cap you can.

5.5 is as high as I'd go.

That's really not a lot of money for Girardi. He plays top pairing minutes, doesn't miss any time, and will be an UFA. I'd actually say that's under market value for Girardi and if he went to UFA would get more on the open market. I don't think it has anything at all to do with Staal. They wouldn't have traded Del Zotto if they were worried about Staal IMO.

I get how it seems strange, but would you give him $6.5 million? How about 7?

At some point 500K has to be the difference. They negotiate tens of contracts every season, they can't give away and extra 10% on all of them.

Eh, I think keeping Moore is worth it so as to not rush Miller or Lindberg. Let them play big minutes in the AHL. I also wouldn't be opposed to extending Moore for a year. Good soldier. Skates well. Good Pker. Leader. I don't think he will cost much more than he is being paid now.

Inputting Fast also assumes they don't get a player in any of those trades who can play there. No matter what, I am not seeing the major drop for the rest of the season.

Regarding Stralman, I'm not really comfortable with the idea of moving him right now...not sure Klein is a good replacement, Stralman is one of the better puck movers on the team even if he'll never score a goal or anything. We'll see, guess it depends on how the Rangers feel about Allen or McIlrath.

Also feel like Stralman is unheralded enough that it's not like the Rangers will get a huge return for him
