Callahan is staying put in NY. This isn't NHL 13.

Why are we talking about trading Callahan? Who by the way, has scored in more than 5 games, and is tied for the team lead in goals with Nash.

Sather is not Holmgren. He doesn't just go out and trade his captain.

only one person really offered Callahan. It did turn into a discussion of his worth however.

imagine sauer was healthy.. and we had same issues with gabs

i would go full force trade gabs, mdz, one of our top prospects like McIrath and 3rd for Eriksson, Robidas, pick/prospect.. you think dallas would do something like that..

Doubt it but Sauer isn't healthy so doesn't matter regardless.

Sorry to get NHL 13 as some would say, but would anyone be down to give him back to Minnesota for Heatley and try Boyle for Konopka? Both would be Tort guys, no?

Absolutely no to Heatley. If Minny wanted Gabby back, which I doubt they do, my targets would be Coyle and Scandella, among others.

Minnesota, from my understanding offered Gaborik a huge contract extension a few years back and he turned it down. Whether or not they want him back, that makes you question whether Gaborik would agree to go back.

Rumor was an offer of 80m/10 years from what I recall. However, I think that offer was early in the season, before he got hurt that year.

Gaborik >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The ****ing All-Star.

Never.

Gaborik rejected the Minnesota extension offer because he didn't want to play in a defensive system under Lemaire.
Did he change his mind since then? I am not sure. But Lemaire is gone.

Mike Richards pretty much had to be moved by Holmgren(along with Jeff Carter) because of locker room dissension between him and Chris Pronger which was dividing the team.

That turned out to be an unbelievably terrific deal for the Flyers as they ended up with Voracek(13g,19 assists), Symmonds(11 g,10 assists) and Schenn(9g,12 assists) who are all much younger and way more productive than Richards and Carter!

Sather would wet his pants for a deal like that!

If that's true, Minnesota management should be thanking their lucky stars that Gaborik didn't acept that deal!

Anyone who thinks this team would be better off trading Callahan rather than Gaborik is out to lunch. Seriously. Callahan does EVERYTHING you want a hockey player to do, both on and off the ice. Gabby scores a few more goals. Big deal. He's an elite scorer, not an elite hockey player. Cally is an elite hockey player.

If by Torts guys you mean one is old and living off past stats and the other with hands like feet I'd say yeah " torts kinda guys "

I think Heatley would be the slowest player on the team if he came here. He has the speed of a glacier on sleep depressants.

You're right; Cally is definitely worth more to the team than Gaborik is or will ever be but, no offense, Cally isn't even remotely close to being an elite player!
Posters on this forum really need to stop tossing the word "elite" around so frequently!

I just did capgeek.com with keeping our top 6 together (Gaborik, Nash, Callahan, Stepan,Hags, Richards) adding Kreider AND adding Nathan Horton via UFA and I came out only $2,690,000 over the cap which could be made up by trading Boyle or Pyatt and our RFAs getting less, for instance, I put Mcd at 4M but I don't see him making more than Staal, etc. It would be a tight fit, but the Rangers could field a much better team (by adding Horton, Sauer coming back, etc) and still retain Gaborik.

Nash (7,800,000), Richards (6,666,667), Gaborik (7,500,000)
Hagelin (2,500,000), Stepan (3,000,000), Horton (5,000,000)
Kreider (1,325,000), Miller (1,244,167), Callahan (4,275,000)
Asham (1,000,000), Boyle (1,700,000), Powe (1,067,667)

Mcdonagh (4,000,000)- Girardi (3,325,000)
Staal (3,975,000), Stralman (1,7000,000)
Del Zotto (2,550,000) - Sauer (1,250,000)

Hank (6,875,000)
Biron (1,300,000)

I'm not opposed 100% to trading him, but the return better be damn good.

Five years in the life of "former elite" goal scorer is a long time; in hindsight, he should have accepted the deal because now he'll be lucky to get 2-3 yrs when his contract expires because of his age, decline and the perception of his game so far this season.

His resume (just scoring 41 goals last year) is going to speak more about his next contract rather than a shortened 48 game season coming off an injury. Now IF he continues to struggle the rest of this year AND all of next year, then his next contract might be pretty bad.
