yikes we only have a 12.6% chance to make the playoffs

we have to go 38-24-10 to have a 63.2% chance to make it
Not surprising. Lots of teams in the west that didn't make the playoffs last year are tearing it up this season. The Oilers are still spinning their wheels trying to find their game. The team doesn't seem to have any chemistry or confidence. Seems like the teams they're playing are making quick tape to tape passes while the Oilers are still passing it into each others feet and look totally out of sync. They better get it together in a hurry and get on some major winning streaks or this season might be over before they know it.

By American Thanksgiving as long as we are less than 5 points out of a playoff spot we have a chance. If not well.....it drops to 1%

Crazy that Reinhart cleared waivers. I think everyone was sure he'd be picked up by someone, if not us. I wonder if there could be a trade for him. Contract for Contract.

Crazy? I'd be shocked if somebody actually claimed him. He can't skate, pretty much a death blow for Dmen in todays' NHL.

If we want Krieder it'll be RNH going the other way... Not sure I make that deal considering our depth at LW. Not really seeing anything that we could get for Strome. Who could have seen how brutal he was and predicted this coming?

If the Oilers are really serious about getting Kreider then it'll have to be RNH for Kreider. McDavid gets a new LW. Maroon gets moved down to 3LW. Either gets extended for under 3M or he walks.

The Oilers should also make a move for Shipachev.

Kreider-McDavid-Strome
Lucic-Drai-Slepy
Maroon-Shipachev-Caggiula

why in the world is Strome on the 1st line. That Blackhole on the first line will suck McDavid Dry. No thanks. Go Maroon or go home. Maroon will ask 4 mill min and perhaps even 5 plus if he hits 20. Let him walk and use that cap space on a puck moving power play quarterback thats young. Next year stick Pulju there when hes ready.

I don't have much issue with trading the 1st but I'm not sure who you would actually target.

A lot of people are yelling for a winger for McDavid so Draisaitl can go to centre. But I'm a little more sceptical of that considering almost no (quality) in house options have been tried there.

Have any of RNH, Strome, Kassian, or even Slepyshev taken a shift with Maroon and McDavid at evens this season? My my count it's only been Draisaitl, Yamamoto, and the odd appearance of Letestu. Why not just put RNH there? Drai, Strome, and Letestu is fine enough depth to allow that.

Probably because McDavid is a go go go player if he has the puck and Draisaitl knows how to play off of it. More often than not, if RNH carries the puck in, he tries to setup and play a 'cerebral' game. When Hall did the heavy lifting for him [and somewhat stylistically similar to McDavid], he played along though so who knows.

Lots of people didnt like Lucic at 6 million a year when it was signed. Does he bring "intangibles" like experience, and team toughness? Yes he does.

Is the price tag on that 6 million a year? For a guy that is really now a 3rd or at best 2nd line winger? Argumentative at best.

Its amazing that Jordan Eberle had to go because of his contract. Which I actually agree with since hes not a 6m player. But Lucic is no better. He is not worth 6m a year.

So how on Earth do we get rid of this guy and his awful contract before he is full blown Clarkson albatross? Is there any way to move this guy?

This lineup is for this year.

Now that I think of it
RNH for Kreider
Picks for Leivo, Grabner
Moved Strome to 3C

Kreider-McDavid-Maroon
Lucic-Drai-Grabner
Leivo-Strome-Kassian/Slepy

ASAP while it's only been a year and he still hasn't settled in Edmonton. We are going to lose a valuable player down the road if Lucic isn't moved

Sekera contract I can live with but Lucic and Russell will have to go if we are serious about contending for a cup

What do you guys think of trying to grab Bozak? Leafs not loving him, he's $4.2m but expires this year, and is a right-handed center.

I doubt the Leafs would want Strome back but he might help solidify the centers if we must keep Drai on the wing.

If we could trade Strome for Rieder, I'm all for a pick for Bozak

Not everyone. :D

I would be more surpised if someone picks Reinhart up before the Oilers than I would be if he goes unclaimed.

tbh I'm a little surprised that Chia didn't claim him, but I really didn't think anyone else would.

Fire Chiarelli. Explain to Lucic that he's not part of the plans here and get him to waive his NMC for locations he and his family are cool with.

Retain 1-2 million of his salary. Include a 2nd round pick if need be. Take back a crappier player.

You can move him in those scenarios. Likely he only agrees to a trade to the California area. He wanted to be in LA, that's where his family lives in the summer, so trade him closer to there or there if you can get the Kings to agree.

Isn't it in 4 years? That's a long way

Oops, I stand corrected. Next potential lockout is 4 yrs away.

I suggested this solution because outside of early retirement, I see it as the only realistic scenario.

If the roster doesn't change next year and factoring the increase in salary. Here is why Lucic's contract will become a problem.

Maroon(3)-McDavid(12.5)-Yam(1)
Lucic(6)-Drai(8.5)-Pulju(1)
Caggiula(1)-RNH(6)-Strome(2)
Khaira(1)-Letestu(2)-Kassian(2)
13th forward(1)

Klef(4)-Larsson(4)
Sekera(5.5)-Russell(4)
Nurse(3)-Benning(1.5)
Gryba(1.5)

Talbot(4.5)
Backup(1)
Dead cap(1.5)

77.5M next year if we run this roster. This is also being generous and not including bonuses

So please explain to me why Lucic's contract won't be an issue next year and so forth?

Islands in the stream.
Count me in there Redgrant. I thought this contract was awful when it was signed. Lucic is vastly overestimated as a hockey player. He had a short stint where being a feared opponent gave him more room out there on the ice and led to some goals. he scored only 11EV goals all of last season. He has one goal this season. He isn't even at the stage in his career where he's an ever menacing presence on the ice. During this Edmonton Stint Lucic tends to pick his spots. That was seen in LA as well.

People will respond with such things as "Lucic still scoring, still getting points'' without realizing how many of those are first unit PP derived alongside McD.

"Lucic will replace the Hall production" lolol

Because RNH is going to be the scapegoat and he’s going to be driven out of town before Lucic even gets looked at.
