History has a record of repeating itself. It's why signing a player after one good year is a huge risk and teams often look at a few year sample size and lots of young players take bridge deals.Something every NHLer strives for. Being in Soundwave's good books. And its a real page turner mind you. Never mind the sticky problem of guaranteed contracts or anything. If you are producing today he's ready to sign you up for $5 million. If not? On to the next page.
Somehow you don't seem to realize that what you are saying is exactly what causes the Oilers to have the sort of players you call 'over priced, no heart trash' the minute they stop living up to their deals.
Oh look, he's producing. He seems 'hungry'. Let's hand him a lot of money. Oh wait. He seems to be resting on his laurels and floating around. Where can we unload him for pennies on the dollar?
I submit that at the end of the day the career stats mean everything to an NHL player. And Jordan Eberle will go down as the better player than Patrick Maroon in every NHL book ever written.
But you can go with your version I guess.
