Meh. Zadina is essentially just a 3rd line “roster” player. He’s 1/3 of the player + pick + prospect package that is generally assembled for a star player.

Norris (prospect) + pick (stu) + Tierney (player)

How many of us cared who the f*** Tierney was? Zadina is the Tierney.

Now if Pierre is okay with a lower pick bc we are getting the former 3rd overall pick or whatever then we truly know the packages are bad.

If it’s shit then just keep him until the deadline. That top 6 is lethal with him in it if everyone stays healthy.

Team Garriach, Wallace seems like an ass tbh. Maybe he just covered the team too long and got jaded.

Wallace is a guy without a job on the outside looking in.

Garrioch is a guy who has a job with Post Media and Bell Media. He gets paid to write happy fluff about the Sens. (and this enrages many fans).

Zadina I would be happy to take as simply a throw in. Perhaps he can reclaim some of his potential, but if not another decent body in Belleville.

I didn't want to wait until the TDL as it would be great to get into the draft, but if the value of the trade isn't close to at least a 1st RD pick and good prospect/useful middle six, than sign him for 1 year 7.35M and get the most you can in a bidding war at the deadline. That seems like what the floor would be on a Debrincat TDL deal.

Hellebyck for Chabot? We trade an offensive dman in Chabot for a great goalie in Hellebyck.
Then go out and get Mayfield and or Dumba in the free agent market. Hellebyck can play 60 games.
Sanderson Mayfield
Chychrun Zub
Kleven JBD Hamonic

Hellebyck/ Forsberg
You want to trade 1 year of hellebuyck for Chabot? What?

Wallace has a job what are you talking about. People don't like Garrioch because he is a slob who can't form a sentence. That doesn't have an athletic bone in his body. He's the last person that should be reporting on professional sports.

Was it? Seems to me it wasn't a good mix outside of the Sutzle Tkachuk pairing. Batherson, Giroux and DeBrincat are very similar players. Not enough, motor, Sand paper, puck possession, net drive, puck retrieval and grit. In a video game I'm sure it works. Didn't seem to work in real life.

Personally I think people don't like Garrioch because of envy. You're right, he probably doesn't have an athletic bone in his body. He started writing for the high school newspaper about sports probably because he wasn't able to play sports. Somehow, he fell into a pot of luck and has spent the last 30 years covering the NHL and I'm thinking most guys here probably believe they could do the job better.

He might be the last person that should be reporting on sports but consider he almost IS the last person reporting on sports....at least as a paid journalist for a major news entity.

It's funny because your description fits Bruce to a tee as well.

How about team neither?

Let's get a deal today to give us all something real to talk about

I can say with absolute certainty I do not envy Bruce Garrioch. I can also say from experience professional players feel the same way. How strong can his grasp on the sport be when he's never competed in anything in his life that's involved in athletics. That on top of how terrible he is on camera and his limited vocabulary. Then you look at someone like Mendes. Well spoken, honest, compassionat and analytical. Terrific on camera etc. It's pretty clear who should be reporting on this team and on television.

He's managed to spend a lifetime doing it.

What do the players have to do with it? He interviews the odd guy. That's about it.

We have polls here where huge percentages of people vote that they could do a better job than the GM. Imagine the result if we posted a poll about being better than Garrioch? That's where the envy comes in, because it's far more realistic doing his job than thinking of yourself as a GM

As for Mendes, he's made the career choices he's made. He had a tv gig. He quit it for a radio gig. He quit the radio gig for a feature writer gig with the Athletic. As far as I can tell, Ian is exactly where he's chosen to be

We're trading the best player in the deal. How often do you think the team trading the best player ends up winning the trade?

More often than that cliche line suggests.

We won the Yashin trade.

We won the Karlsson trade.

That's just using our team off the top of my head.

Who won the Lindros trade?

I can go on.

Who won the Heatley trade? (to San Jose)
Who won the Spezza trade? (to Dallas)
Who won the Stone trade? (to Vegas)
Who won the Hoffman trade? (to San Jose)
Who won the Turris trade? (acquiring him)
Who won the Duchene trade? (to Columbus)
Who won the Pageau trade? (to NYI)

Those are just from our team.

Can I be honest, Heatley was a lose-lose. Heatley fall off hard in the later years.
Yeah Dallas won that one badly, no doubt.
Lol f*** that Stone trade.
Neither won the Hoffman trade. It was just a dumb situation.
We easily won the Turris trade. Rundblad and a 2nd for a 1B center was well worth it.
Colorado is the only winner in the Duchene trade.
Pageau has been useful for NYI, but remains a big cap hit. Greig should easily be worth it soon.

Its a pretty great draft this year. This team really lacks depth and Zadina is inexpensive and has some upside. The centerpiece of the deal would be the 17th OA pick and a 2nd rounder. But most of all this team gets cap space to address its real issues which are goaltending and forward depth. This team doesnt lack top end skill they lack middle 6ers who are hard to play against that can chip in offensively. Giroux or Norris can play on the first PP instead of Debrincat the team wont miss a beat in fact it could have an even more lethal pp.
