I think Connor Brown would qualify for a contract with performance bonuses because of his injury situation.

2-2.5M with 1M in bonuses?

They got the donuts? Excellent....
Only 35+ can get performance bonuses as far as I know.

What is a Performance Bonus?

A Performance Bonus can be given to a player in addition to their salary. Performance bonuses are only paid to the player if they meet the requirements as defined by the bonus. Performance bonuses count against the salary cap; however, a team can exceed the salary cap due to performance bonuses by the maximum performance bonus cushion amount of 7.5 percent of the upper limit. Not all players are eligible for Performance Bonuses, and to receive a bonus within their contract, a player must meet one of the following criteria:
  1. The player is on an entry-level contract.
  2. The player has signed a one-year contract and is over 35 years old.
  3. The player has signed a one-year contract after returning from a long-term injury (has played 400 or more games, and spent 100 or more days on the Injured Reserve in the last year of their most recent contract).

Ok thanks, don’t see C . Brown signing a 1 year deal, feel like he’ll want more security in a deal.

Don’t see him wanting to come back here either after asking for a trade out…

It’s possible for sure but sens would likely have to be the highest bidder for his services or his other options have to suck

I know Zibanejad has turned into a legit #1 center, but I still can't believe we passed on Couturier in 2011.

Too late to acquire him now though. No need for another center and his contract is too expensive and too long.
We passed on him for the better player.

Yeah I agree. I didn’t realize he had that much term left and is 31.. Carter Hart on the other hand, could be a good option for the Sens
Need to ask why philly would be trading like the one sure thing on their roster who is still young

A player who would fit our style really well would be bertuzzi.

Would love to see if we could attract him, wont be easy though

Couldn't agree more. I would go hard after him.
He'll be cheaper than Debrincat by upwards of 2-3M/year. He's not going to score as much most likely, but he plays with an edge and we could use that on our top-6.

I would bring in Connor Brown as well. I think the market on him will be low, so it could be a good opportunity to buy low on a 30-40 point player.

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Giroux
Bertuzzi-Norris-Batherson
Joseph-Pinto-Brown
4th liners mix of (Sokolov, Grieg, Kastelic, Jarventie, Boucher, Kelly)

Add a goalie like Jarry for example, or some other UFA goalie (there are plenty this year)

This team could make a legitimate run.

Moving DeBrincat means we can add 2 2/3 line players and upgrade our depth.
After watching Noel Acciari in the playoffs who would want him.
Even a guy like Lafferty would be a plus in our bottom 6. Eric Haula; Compher; Barbashev
Miles Wood is another name I like. Jesper Fast is another. Sammy Blais for some toughness on the 4th line.; Garnet Hathaway another.
There are so many players that would be upgrades to what we iced last year.
I like Bertuzzi but if he's looking at 6+ that's a bit rich for me long term

Bertuzzi would be a slam dunk grab if not for his injury tendencies. I guess he isn't overly injured..

Trading DeBrincat for futures and signing Bertuzzi for 2-3 mill less would be phenomenal asset management. We would be a better team for it too.

I think that new contract is gonna come in at 7-8.

I’d stay away from Bertuzzi.

I want DeBrincat extended personally, even at 8 and change. Long term it might be challenging but he’s a gamer and if this was a down year I can’t wait to see a career year.

If he elects to not re-sign I would have to think he would be traded for another high profile player over a collection of picks or prospects.

So what do you think the biggest hole is on the roster? For me it is goaltending quite easily. However if we were forced to make a DeBrincat trade I'm not sure we would be able to acquire a top goalie. I think trading DeBrincat would make the hole he left the biggest hole on the roster (even though I was a bit disappointed in his season, it was still alright and there is reason to be hopeful for a bounce back year). If we had to trade him could we make a Tkachukesque trade where we get 2 players back? I think I would rather get a couple good top six guys than a forward and a d-man though.

Look at the remaining goalies in the playoffs. You don’t need to go out an acquire a top goalie. You need a solid one and the team in front of him has to play solid defence.

Right now it is forward depth. The teams still going throw out three solid lines regularly. They don't try and load up their top two lines but balance them out with role players/grinders.

The Sens might be able to do it internally. Having Norris back will help and if they can bring back Formenton that would be huge also. Formenton is the perfect type of player to complement top six forwards on a line. IF Grieg can stay healthy and step in, he'd be a huge help also.

How tough would a top nine like this be for opponents to stop?

Brady-Timmy-Grieg
Formenton-Norris-Batherson
DeBrincat-Pinto-Giroux

Even if DeBrincat doesn't come back, sticking in Joseph or someone outside the organization would still make for a much deeper team.

Yah I still don’t think forward depth is an issue. It’s not perfect. But it’s not an issue. Nothing wrong with an elite top 6 and a decent third line. A lot is running on greig. If greig can score at the same pace he scored this year then that third line is in very nice shape. Granted. Greig and pinto got their points playing with debrincat and Batherson. But if they have some chemistry. 30-40-30 third line is in fact very very good.

We're in a tough spot re goalie, basically if we want a ~3 million dollar guy we need to move off of Joseph, which will be hard to do, or move on from ADB.

Really need some clarity on the latter before we can address G
Someone like Adin Hill or Laurent Brossoit interest me.

I could see the team targeting a sub 1 million guy like guy like Nedeljkovic, Rittich, Stalock, Hellberg etc.

There will be another goalie carousel this offseason and there's less and less money in the system, so hopefully we can get a better guy for less
These guys pricing themselves outta Ottawa radar >.<
