I want to make it a point to say I have never criticized Varmalov. My point was that Colorado had a capable goalie in Anderson and had to part with valuable assets to replace him. What would rather have? Anderson and your first round pick or Varlamov.

As for Anderson, in 101 games with the Senators, his save percentage is .924
We're plenty happy with his play
.

Not bad for an 'average starter'

The O'Reilly email starts off pleasant enough but when you hit that "too often we tell talented kids to tone it down to make other children not feel as bad" passage you feel the crazyness slowly seep in.

That was an interesting read and some epic "jump to conclusions" mat imagery going on in my head!

When Anderson's contact was up in Colorado, he only had two seasons under his belt as a starter in the NHL. One was a very good year, the other was a very bad year. Rumor was Anderson was looking for a long term contact at $4 million or so a year.

In my opinion the Avs made a right decision considering Anderson was just a stop gap, and the Avs would have needed to draft a starter anyways for when the rest of the team developed.

You could have gotten a lot more for Anderson. You traded him for nothing, and you should have gotten more. It was a bad trade on its own merits. It has nothing to do with the Varlamov deal. No reason to connect the two.

He was in the middle of a very disappointing season. I think the general consensus around the NHL that his one good season was a fluke. I don't think the Avs missed out on much. Most teams would have viewed him as a rental given his contact demands.

He had a bad season because your GM and Coach decided to rush him back from injury then proceeded to platoon him with Budaj so he get never get into a rhythm. Then he was low-balled after carrying the Avs the season before.

It was poor asset management at its finest. Varlamov is not worth a top 10 pick. Few goalies are, let alone an unproven one from Washington.

If someone was to offer us a top 10 pick for Robin Lehner, we would take it and run.

Oh man, in this draft? I'd run so hard you'd swear you could see an Olympic gold around my neck and a syringe sticking out of my thigh.

No, Anderon just played bad, and wanted a big contract based solely on his one good year as a starter.

Well, he's got his big contract now and he's playing great so we're pretty happy thank you.

Did you just come here to tell us Anderson is an average goalie and how great Varlamov is going to be?

Nope, came here for info on O'Reilly. Just correcting misconception about the Anderson situation in Colorado.

And yet after 20 games here, he played out of his mind and got the contract he DESERVED.

Meanwhile, you lost a first round pick that your team sorely needed.

Good call.

No, we got a good young goaltender that plays well here. We would have had to draft a starter anyways for when the Avs core is ready to compete. Also Colorado had an extra first rounder, so that one was expendable.

I wouldn't ever really call a 1st rounder expendable. Would you rather have Varlamov and Landeskog or Landeskog and Forsberg? I guess time will tell.

SNET shilling for the Leafs. Keep replaying the same opinion piece trying hard to sell a buried Leaf AHL contract.
